Writing for Eton's student magazine, aged 16, Johnson urged parents to send their sons to the school, “because in this way you will imbue [him] with the most important thing, a sense of his own importance.”

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-65401587Taxpayers are being billed up to £245,000 to cover the cost of Boris Johnson's Partygate inquiry lawyers. The former PM is being investigated by MPs over whether he misled them over lockdown parties in Downing Street. He is facing growing calls to cover the legal costs himself, as the bill for his defence team increased this week for a second time. The BBC has learned the Treasury did not sign off the decision to use public money to pay the bill. Ministers and civil servants are expected to follow Treasury guidance when making decisions about spending public money. Aa usual, he's freeloading with others' money.

Raab at least paid for his own legal bills. No chance that Johnson intends to do so, despite nearing £5 million in earnings since leaving office.

www.theguardian.com/politics/2023/may/23/boris-johnson-referred-to-police-over-allegedly-hosting-friends-at-chequers-in-lockdownBoris Johnson has been referred to police by the Cabinet Office over claims he broke lockdown rules by hosting family and friends at Chequers during the pandemic. The visits to the former prime minister’s grace-and-favour residence were found in his official diary by his government-funded lawyers as they were preparing for the public inquiry into the Covid pandemic. They raised the issue with senior officials in the Cabinet Office, who then referred the matter to police as they were obliged to do under the ministerial code, and also the privileges committee, which is investigating whether Johnson lied to the Commons over Partygate. More material for the police and the Privileges Committee!

www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2023/may/24/covid-inquiry-threatened-legal-action-over-boris-johnson-whatsapp-messagesThe official public inquiry into the government’s handling of Covid threatened the Cabinet Office with criminal sanctions over its refusal to share Boris Johnson’s WhatsApp messages and diaries from during the crisis without heavy redactions. The inquiry issued a legal notice requesting Johnson’s unredacted WhatsApp communications, his official diaries from between January 2020 and February 2022, together with 24 notebooks, revealing for the first time the scale of notes taken by the former prime minister while in office. These included exchanges and group chats between senior government ministers, senior civil servants and their advisers during the Covid crisis, including the chief medical officer for England, Sir Chris Whitty, the then chief scientific adviser, Sir Patrick Vallance, and the former NHS chief Simon Stevens. They also include their messages with the former No 10 adviser Dominic Cummings and cabinet ministers at the time including Rishi Sunak, Liz Truss and the then deputy prime minister, Dominic Raab, the then health secretary, Matt Hancock, as well as the cabinet secretary, Simon Case. However, after receiving the legal order on 28 April this year, the Cabinet Office refused the request, which had been made under section 21 of the Inquiries Act 2005, two weeks later, contending it was unlawful, according to inquiry documents. Lady Hallett, the chair of the Covid inquiry, has now dismissed the Cabinet Office’s response, saying she believed the initial order was within the law. Failure to comply without reasonable excuse would be a criminal offence, punishable with a fine of up to £1,000 or imprisonment for a maximum of 51 weeks.

Good outline of what the implications are for not giving evidence to the enquiry are in this legal blog lawandlore.substack.com/p/not-a-promising-start-a-close-readThe Governments defence seems to be that they have reviewed the evidence themselves and decided it’s not relevant which means they won’t hand it over. The Chair of the enquiry seems not to agree

There's something wrong with a process covering affairs of government that allows lawyers to get anywhere near that process.

Boris Johnson will provide unredacted WhatsApps to the Covid 19 Inquiry directly, he said in a letter to to the chairwoman on Friday.
“The government yesterday decided to take legal action. It was not my decision to do so,” wrote Johnson. “While I understand the government’s position, I am not willing to let my material become a test case for others when I am perfectly content for the inquiry to see it.”
In the letter addressed to Heather Hallett, Johnson said he would also like to share “any material” on his old phone. Johnson said he was previously told he could no longer access the device safely.
“In view of the urgency of your request I believe we need to test this advice, which came from the security services,” the letter said.
Johnson said he no longer has physical access to his notebooks which were removed from his office by the Cabinet Office, and said he has requested for them to be shared with the Inquiry directly.

Strange thing is once a message is deleted from WhatsApp I’m led to believe it’s not traceable? So how will they know it’s unredacted? Not suggesting he’d do such a thing

He’ll be up to something that’s for absolute sure. He does nothing that isn’t to his own advantage.
I wouldn’t trust him as far as I could throw him.

Standing down with immediate effect after receiving the report. The plot thickens. They’ll all be gone by the end of the day if we’re lucky.

Johnson not happy , taken a swipe at Sunak and the government . Is this the end for Johnson or will he resurface at some point" He has obviously been informed that the report is not going to do him any favours . Perhaps that’s why Mad Nad chucked the towel in . This is going to be really interesting . I hope we get an early GE - I live in hope .

What on earths happening . All well and good with Patel , Rees - Mogg and others chuffed up to their nuts as they are rewarded for their loyalty . Then BOOM , Johnson makes a statement , he’s going , blames everyone else and has a swipe at Sunak and the present government . Mad Nad resigned earlier and I thought she’s not on the list of loyal followers so she’s a bit p**sed off. Perhaps that’s not the case after all, anyhow she’s off to write a book about Boris would you believe. Now we may well see the Tory Party tearing lumps off each other , whilst the Country continues to struggle . Of course it’s all COVID, Ukraine and Corbyns fault . I honestly believe we need a GE asap. Get it over and done with , surely we cannot continue like this . Word of warning though , this is not the end of Johnson, he , like Trump will want to make a return at some point and worryingly for Sunak he still has a number of supporters in the House who could make life very difficult for the government .

Well that has been an entertaining evening seeing Trump and Johnson humiliated together. You do kind of hope it gives the Republicans and Conservatives a chance to reset and getback to some kind of proper political parties capable of governing their respective countries.

Boris calls for a General Election.
Bound to be part of his cunning plan, but he is right, we are on our second Prime Minister since Boris with no mandate. Boris can also assert that he did get a mandate via a GE.

bylinetimes.com/2022/04/22/hating-boris-johnson/Johnson is lazy, self-serving, arrogant, petty and deeply, deeply unimaginative. He lies to those who love him and disregards the promises he makes in pursuit of his own pleasure. He has been a terrible husband, an untrustworthy ally, a deceitful employee, and a deeply dishonest and entitled public servant. He doesn’t care about the truth any more than he cares about other people’s feelings or the needs of those he has conned into voting for him. He has been elevated beyond his talents to the most powerful job in the country for no other reason than that he has powerful friends and allies in the press and in public life, and the arrogance and self-conviction to propel himself into it.

Good to see that Johnson is using his taxpayer funded lawyers to good effect. www.theguardian.com/politics/2023/jun/13/partygate-report-likely-to-be-delayed-after-intervention-by-boris-johnsonBoris Johnson has made an 11th-hour intervention that looks set to delay the publication of a report expected to find he misled parliament over Partygate until Thursday at the earliest. Having quit as an MP in fury on Friday after receiving a private copy of the findings, lawyers for the former prime minister sent a letter at 11.57pm on Monday night that is being considered by the privileges committee. MPs on the cross-party group, which has a Tory majority and Labour chair, had been hoping to bring their year-long inquiry to an end on Wednesday with a definitive conclusion about Johnson’s conduct. But the letter from Johnson, as well as a large operation to draft the report and attach reams of evidence significantly earlier than planned to ensure it is “watertight”, has slowed down proceedings.
