If the mainstream left supporting media hadn’t done a hatchet job on Boris, we wouldn’t be in this mess.
Yes we are in a mess and yess Truss is appearing far to weak a leader to steer us back on course……however much damage it does to the Tory party, I fear the only action that needs to be taken is also the most drastic….she needs to go and go now

Too many backbenchers were worried about their own seats so only got themselves to blame for not holding their nerve. What Has changed nowadays is the reported news has too much time given by to many political commentators giving their opinion. It didn’t help the Conservatives they all wanted Boris out, and it was also going to lead to further free falls.

I see that Ben Wallace is currently 10/1 to be the next Tory leader. Somehow the odds for Johnson are only 6/1 with Rishi Rich the runaway favorite at 7/2.
Given that the Tory membership chose Truss over Sunak last time I can't see many people taking that bet. I also can't see the very people that effectively kicked Johnson out thinking it would be a good idea to bring him back.
The other two up near the top are Badenoch and Mordaunt.
I think Wallace might be worth a punt, but unless he can be confident about turning around the massive Labour lead in the polls he might decide to leave it until after the next election. No-one is going to be in a rush to lead the party into an annihilation.

Now try not to choke on your granola and oat milk, put your independent down for one second and stop talking bollox Don't you just love it when the embattled Right (or in this case, specifically the Johnson apologists) bring up Brexit and Covid as triumphs?! Brexit has been conveniently sidelined by Putin's invasion, but hasn't actually been 'done' if you live in Northern Ireland; rather fudged or shelved, thus thwarting the democratic will of the people (does that sound familiar?) of NI who are being held to ransom by those old friends of the Tories, the DUP. And as for all those trade deals with their amazing benefits.... Not to mention the companies who can no longer afford to trade with the EU and are moving operations to the continent. Try asking fishermen and farmers what they have gained from Brexit, having been promised so much. It's also great that we now have control of our own borders (irony alert). On the second point, perhaps you should wait for the outcome of the Public Enquiry before heralding the Covid response as a Johnson-led triumph. There are a few Conservatives who have retained some integrity during the shambles of the last few years bit I doubt if any of them could command the support of the disorganised rabble which is the current parliamentary party. Time for a complete change, not just a rearrangement of the soiled furniture.

Now the soul searching has begun about how we ended up with Truss as leader, there's a lot of talk about her being elected by 80,000 Tory party members, one eighth of one percent of the electorate or somesuch.
But, if you think back, was it just the fault of one man? Gavin Williamson. As head honcho of Sunak's campaign, there was talk at the time that things had been engineered to exclude Penny Mordaunt because she looked like the biggest threat to Sunak. The reasoning seemed to be that up against Truss, Sunak would sail into No 10....

The reasoning seemed to be that up against Truss, Sunak would sail into No 10.... Spot on. He didn't need to do it for May, as all the opposition withdrew. But he's certainly suspected of rigging votes to make sure that the useless Hunt ran against Johnson, and I reckon he's done it again to make sure that Mordaunt was knocked out, leaving the useless Truss to run against Sunak. Unfortunately for him (and the nation), the membership thought otherwise and voted her in. If Williamson now becomes Mordaunt's campaign manager, then we'll know which way the wind is blowing. He was May's campaign manager, completely rubbished Boris, but then became Johnson's campaign manager once May had been ousted. The man has no principles whatsoever. It's suspected that when he was Chief Whip he hung Michael Fallon out to dry in order to get his job at defence. He was subsequently sacked by May for allegedly leaking information, but was rewarded by Johnson by being given Education - and we all know how that turned out. Nicholas Watt from BBC Newsnight has been told that a group of senior Tories will call on Liz Truss to resign as prime minister next week.
A group of senior Tories have been holding discussions + have decided the following: the sacking of Kwasi Kwarteng will prompt them to come out publicly next week and call on Truss to resign. “These are serious people. The PM will find it difficult to survive.”

I knew there were a few Conservative members on here who voted. I think my last post on this thread was to say I'd voted for Sunak. That wasn't as I thought he could win the next general election but he would take better care of the economy. I didn't expect this to become so apparent in just four weeks though. It's an embarrassment to the UK. After getting my vote in the other month I have cancelled my membership. The £2 a month can be better spent.

Purely my personal view:
The last thing Conservative MPs want now is a General Election. The last thing most of the voters want is for this to carry on until they have to have a General Election.
Sorry Liz, but sacking the chancellor doesn't extracate you from this mess, you have to change, and change fast.

This has been an embarrassing few weeks since she took the mantle over from Boris.
