If anyone is ever thinking of flying with TAP Air Portugal then please, think twice.
We have just had our worst airline experience in our entire life with this national carrier. Fortunately it didn't ruin our holiday but our return home from Lisbon via Porto was a nightmare and to cap it all off we are still to be reunited with some of our luggage.
I know air travel at the moment is somewhat fraught but even so this was something else.
Having now experienced first hand what can go wrong, we really feel for those who have been trying to get away this summer but have had flights cancelled etc.

I wouldn't bother flying at the moment personally but it seems it’s not always or even usually the airlines fault, they’re relying on all the other services falling into place at various airports around the world to allow their schedules to run smoothly.
Sorry you had a bad experience but was it TAPs fault or the organisation at the airports from third party partners? For t(e next few week I can see it getting worse with a 50% rise in Covid positives more cancelled flights due to illness. Not to mention cleaners, refuelers, air traffic control, check in staff, security et al, all short staffed with infection rising.
Stay at home I’m enjoying your home town least half the week every week and no flight problems yet.

I've had very good experiences at Liverpool, Manchester, Palma and Alicante airports mostly with Easyjet but a few with Ryanair. Cant beleive how easy its been most of the time, sailed through with no or very minor delays. Only big problem was a 2 hour wait as our plane was delayed on its inward journey (from one of the Hreek islands I think), but even that got turned around inside 25 mins, passengers and luggage off and on. Dont believe that all flights are like what you read in the news, as we saw with Covid the news we read is vastly distorted to suit the story they want you to read.

Got us on the plane, sat waiting in our seats for 2 1/2 hours, announced we needed to return to departure lounge as we were going on another plane, when inside announced flight was cancelled, 4 hour queue just to speak to 1 of only 2 staff to arrange another flight, told the best they could offer was to Bournemouth on Monday (this was Wed into Thursday early hours and to Manchester where our car was), put us up at nearby hotel, but the bus to the hotel had already left, had to get thereby taxi, 4 hours sleep before breakfast, got flight the next day with Jet2) Absolutely shocking service, indeed we never used them again for years. Problem is they are the only airline with regular flights to our part of mainland Spain so had to bite the bullet in the end. We still avoid them whenever possible though.

I know this is hard to believe but both were even worse than Ryandare!

Recently went to Australia, took 24 hours to fly 10,500 miles, and hour and three quarters to go 40 meters through Aussie immigration. Frustration doesn’t describe it.

I watched a doc on the KLM and pan am flight at Tenerife in about 1977, the captain of the KLM was basically an A******* and caused the death of hundreds , I remember 1 flight member from the KLM had been excused at the last minute and everyone on board that flight perished and most of the pan am did too, its the safest form of travel in the world I believe and always amazes me how they even get off the ground, saying that my last flight was a real bumpy one, I was severely dehydrated and felt quite unwell and like a man refused to show it but would have killed for a bottle of water

Even if the French hadn't managed to **** up Concorde and the fuel price made it too expensive to run, it would still be obsolete now - 2 hours or so to get to New York, two hours either side to get on and off, two days later to be reunited with your luggage.....

Juan flight I'll never forget was when the dragon and my good self were on holiday on Margarita, the island off Venezuela. The dragon decided it was a good chance for us to fly over to the Venezuela mainland to visit Angel Falls. Well you had to go by plane, and of course it was a single engine cessna. The pilots didn't exactly fill me with confidence when they came strolling out with their hands in their pockets and ties askew. Angel Falls was a let down anyway, if I hadn't known better, I'd have thought it was some Juan with a watering can pouring it over the edge of the mountain.
Venezuela itself was it turmoil at the time, and on our way back to the airport to return to Margarita, our taxi managed to get into the middle of an auntie Chavez protest. The same pilots were waiting for us and I've never been so pleased to feel the tarmac of an airport on my feet in my life.
A month later, I saw in the news the cessna had crashed on take off, and somebody was killed.

Lots of people I know seemed to be flying at the weekend, I felt slightly envious as I was going over to Anglesey! Anyway, no one had issues and they went from various airports including Birmingham, someone flying from there said when they arrived the queue for security was horrendous but it moved quickly and they even had time for food/drink before the flight which they weren't expecting.

You could have flown to Anglesey couldn't you? No queues at Welshpool international airport or, I don't suppose, at Anglesey.
I fully intend to take a parachute with me on my next foreign holiday - they can drop me off on the way home and I can miss the queues.

You live your life and let others live theirs as they want too. Main reason for so many flights actually was Covid. Most of those were catch up from trips booked but not taken over the last two years so averaged out over those years it's not so high. On then we have met up with folks who fly more often than we do. It will reduce a bit from now on. If the weather wasnt so in UK we wouldnt try and escape it quite so often. Let's be honest its mid summer but it's still pretty awful isnt it.

I wont go into the whole experience (involved 3 flights in total) but just to say that I would be pointing the finger directly at TAP for what happened. From what I've read I'm am far from alone in what happened to us on our trip.

From what I gather it really depends on what airport you're flying out of.
I know close friends that have recently travelled in and out of Luton and Bristol with no issues.
I don't tend to travel abroad in the summer during school holiday time because it is notoriously hellish but obviously this combined with a multitude of factors are why we're seeing so many problems with people getting away.

We heard a few weeks back that Easyjet from Manchester was the worst combination of the lot. We sailed through 3 times without any issues, indeed once we walked from the car park through security and into departures inside 25 mins. And if there were serious issues you would expect stressed out staff, couldnt have been more stress free and smiling was what I've found. Dont forget in all of this the media are actually having to find 'news' after having their meal ticket for the last 2 years (Covid) not really newsworthy anymore.
