I'm sure it will come down eventually but in the meantime we continue to be ripped off over the cost of petrol and diesel. Cheapest I know of locally is a small independent station at Tong near Shifnal. Meanwhile the big boys and supermarkets stubbornly refuse to reduce their prices, no doubt earning them a huge profit right now. inews.co.uk/news/uk/uk-petrol-prices-wholesale-costs-rac-supermarkets-1333910

130 something end if last week. Probably 139.9 but WAY cheaper that the supermarkets and the always rip off Shell stations. This garage is often one of the dearest too, based on the main A41 and being an independent. Like I say, the rest are completely ripping us off at the minute.

Gulf haven’t made petrol / diesel since 1985 just use the name to sells others fuel…..could be any brand. Only company that can still sell ‘leaded 4*’ so popular with classic car owners? GOI licenses the Gulf brand and logo in the UK to the Bayford group, one of the largest independent fuel distributors. Starting in 2001, a new Gulf network of independent stations is slowly reappearing across the UK. At present, many of these stations are notable for offering genuine leaded four-star petrol, for which Bayford has a special dispensation[56] to
I worked at Copthorne Rd Service Station and in 1971 (decimalisation) it was 34p a gallon (7.5p a litre) …….£141.9 a litre would be £6.44 per gallon. When the pump prices changed from Gallons to Litres in the early 80 I was told it was because the pumps were mechanical (price display) and couldn’t cope with the rising prices ….(wouldn’t go round quick enough) Funny how 40 years on we buy in litres but usually refer to fuel consumption in gallons

But the worst petrol in my car is ... BP ! Put that stuff in and I have to mix some other brand in the tank as soon as possible.

I guess…. If you notice most tankers aren’t branded but the fuel can have different additives to make it better from which - is all petrol the same? The short answer is no. All unleaded fuel sold in the UK conforms to the same British Standards, so you shouldn't consider supermarket fuel to be below par. However, there are small differences between fuels. These could offer subtle benefits, depending on what sort of car you drive. Took me ages to realise Q8 (bought up the Gulf network) was shot for and owned by Kuwait

Wonder if the Bayford group buy up anyone's petrol, but then deliver it and put in their own additive package? I understand it's pretty standard to deliver and add the additive pack on delivery?

When I worked at the old 24 hour petrol station on Monkmoor Road we had to convert the litres sold into gallons (or it could have been the other way round, it was a while ago) at the end of the shift and that number has stuck in my mind ever since.

Can’t remember the exact prices but I do know that the small garage on The Mount sell petrol far cheaper than the garage at Four Crosses , Bicton.

Fuel suppliers described as “price gouging” in yesterday’s Guardian.
I worked at Furrows filling station in Ditherington in the mid ‘60s, I can’t remember prices other than a gallon of petrol cost about the same as a pint of bitter. Although recalling the dire state of brewing in those pre CAMRA days, the petrol may have tasted better.

We talk of the "price of petrol", but most of it goes to Sunak.

How are diesel prices in and around Shrewsbury out of interest? Over £1.50 per litre in my neck of the woods 😒 It’s been £145.9 a litre at Sainsburys where I usually pump up these last couple of weeks but to be fair they did bring it down 3p a litre on Friday to £142.9. Rest of the supermarkets are around the same.

Today I filled up at The Mount garage at £135.9 It could go lower come the week end when the garage is due another delivery . I think it must be the cheapest in or around town , certainly compared to some garages who are charging in excess of £ 145.9 Thought I would let people know , it’s a very good saving 😉👍

Great to see Asda Telford still selling at the same price as they were 2 weeks ago 🤬
So obviously all the other local stations havnt bothered reducing their prices either. Not us who should be wearing masks, its the cashiers. Highway man masks.

At DA Roberts, Grindley Brook today unleaded is 134.9. Yesterday at Tong (Gulf) it was 139.9. If you are paying any more then you are being shafted.

Unfortunately, many (including me at one times) think along the lines that the supermarket petrol stations 'have to be the cheapest'.
Clearly this is no longer the case.
Applegreen down in South Salop is regularly more competitive than the supermarkets.
If anyone knows any cheaper by all means share with the group.

Asda and the other supermarkets have come down in the last few days, but only by 2or 3 pence. Think Asda is still 142.9 Obviously those who are regularly higher like all the Shell stations are still at the record prices. A huge amount of profiteering going on at the pumps right now. Barstards.
