Away at Birmingham in old div 2 and a 0-0 draw. Police also thought it was a good idea to kick the backsides of dawdling Town fans that were making their way to the exits. Shocked by that I was. But decided not to argue.

All the usual, the Wembley games, the Wolves FA Cup game away when we were showered by dustbins , the 5-2 Leicester game . BUT , the game that really p**ses me off is the bloody Bury away game under Hurst when we lost 1-0 having missed a penalty . They were crap and we were abysmal . Went with brother + 1 who I shan’t name as we had to stop in traffic for him to have a p**s , he was past desperate. The weather was dreadful in fact everything about the evening was s**te . They were bottom of the League I think and we had Payne playing out wide . AAAAAAAArh bloody why I still ask myself . Some things stick in your mind for all the wrong reasons and this was one - bloody s**thouse Bury .

A 3-0 defeat at Grimsby under Simpson to arrest what I think was something like 26 games without a win for them was pretty miserable.
The defeat at Liverpool is right up there too.

Two trips to Birmingham in '94/'95.The first one we were almost below pitch level and the second one we were bombarded by pies and gob from the blues fans in the stand above and when we started giving them grief we were threatened with expulsion by the stewards and the police.
Also lost both games 2-0 and Chris Withe got ripped a new one by Paul Peskydildo.

Mansfield away under Peters. 4-0 down after 60 mins I decided to leave but car was blocked in the car park at the ground so I had to sit in the car waiting for the final whistle before I could leave.
Gillingham and Lincoln at Wembley.
Losing to Tinpot TWICE in one season.
Rushden on New Years Day. Hungover and lost 5-1 I think.
Bolton is the only away game I've done this season and that was naff as game over in 20 minutes.

7 - 1 at Chesterfield is another for me. You know what was a worse experience of going all the way to Carlisle from London to find out the game was off? DOING IT AGAIN THE FOLLOWING TUESDAY. The drive home almost killed me. Worst away days can surely include a win. 14th December 2003 - Margate 0 - 2 (played in Dover) - Town limped to a late win after the MOTHER of all long trips to watch them! I was at that Margate / Dover game, remember it was a late Sunday in December. An awful game but Lowe and Banim got late goals and I quite enjoyed the whole trip. Just remembered a 4-0 defeat at Brighton. Redmile got sent off and I sat on the scaffolding open seated area in a thunderstorm, bloody hell, that was definitely a so bad it's funny experience.

Have to agree with El Huracan - that 7-1 at Chesterfield was awful. Remember having two defenders injured within a few minutes and Brown unjustly sent off and everything that Chesterfield hit seemed to fly into the top corner. Of all the Wembley trips the Lincoln game was the worst for me - we were robbed by a cowardly and inept referee.

Just remembered another, a 1-0 defeat away at Doncaster. They were in utter crisis, there was a boycott and the crowd was about 900, and they were bottom of the league by a mile. Obviously we lost and were utter s**te.
Think that was under Jake King.

3-0 at Cardiff in 2001, getting p**s bottles lobbed at us, and then having to wait outside the ground for my sister to pick me up, desperately hoping no one would spot my colours under my jacket. To be fair, had a fine night out in Cardiff that night and met some quality locals so that redeemed it somewhat.

Funny really, because reading this thread and thinking back actually just reveals what an utterly brilliant time I've had, even the rubbish games have been an experience in their own right, and for every rubbish game there's a 4-2 at Bramall Lane, or a 2-0 at The Valley, or a 'two goals in stoppage time' 2-1 win at Darlington, plus many others, all games that will live long in my memory.

0-4 tonking away at Hull in either 91 or 92. Game was crappy and Colin Critchlow got ripped off for some of the worst base I’ve ever known at fiver a gram, which was quite a lot back then.

Possibly not the worst ever but one not yet mentioned was Brighton at the Withdean (c2000 or 2001 I think). Rain storm of biblical proportions from about 1.30 on that completely open terrace (has there ever been a worse terrace in the history of football in the rain?). Town didnt turn up in the first half, 4-0 down at HT, Redmile sent off so down to 10 and **** wet through. Ref was looking to call it off at HT due to the puddles everywhere, but rain eased and the full 90 mins had to be endured by Town fans. Still soaked when we got back to Shropshire 5 hours later. At least we drew the second half 0-0.... You follow your team through all adversary I was told..... I was there whilst my wife was in Turin as guest of Juventus. She never let's me forget that

Just remembered another one, Chesterfield away, I think it was not long after Peters had gone. I had gone on a minibus but two of us got separated from the rest of the group, we got into the ground and went in the open terrace behind the goal but realised everyone off the bus had gone in the seats. Of course it hammers down and I think there was a hail storm, we tried to move to the seats but the stewards refused, much to the laughter of our friends in the seats.
I think it was 0-0 at half but they scored 3 times quickly in the second half, we left, went to a nearby pub and discovered a lot of the town fans had already had the same idea.

I remember a particularly dire 1-1 at Mansfield during the Peters era sticking in the mind, mostly down to the awful stewards.
Losing to Telford away, went with a Telford supporting mate as I missed out on an away ticket so kept quiet in the home end. Didn’t really matter, wasn’t much to cheer about anyway!
Particularly disliked the last two visits to Wembley. Prior to the Lincoln match it got on my nerves all week the football pundits going on about ‘little old Lincoln’ and their first trip to Wembley. Fat Rhead’s ‘challenge’ on Dean Henderson set the tone, awful match where we never got going against a rather cynical, physical side.
After all the hype and excitement against Rotherham that was a huge anti-climax. Wish I’d have stayed at Wealdstone! The way the manager didn’t let the door hit his arse on the way out was deflating afterwards.

Brighton away 2000, open away end, awful 4-0 defeat and non stop heavy driving rain. Utterly utterly awful.
Cambridge 5-0 defeat in 2003, one of the worst defensive displays I have ever witnessed.
Chester away 2003. Must have missed the first 20 minutes trying to get in as more Town fans turned up than the away end could hold. Ended up in the home end, then moved to their family enclosure. I think we lost to a last minute goal 2-1 and then were held back for what felt like half hour after the game to let the Chester fans go home first.
Sc***horpe away 2001. We had a great start to the season but put on a rubbish performance losing 3-1. During the match someone got struck by a stray ball and ended up being taken out of the stand by the paramendics. Only after the match did we realise said person was on our coach and we had to wait around until they were brought back from presumably the local hospital.

Would have posted exactly like you, that and the Brighton games must be the wettest I've ever been at a match. Closely followed by Northampton away early 90s.

Losing 5-0 at Dagenham And Redbridge in the Conference season. Desperate performance, desperate pre match pub and desperate area. An afternoon I have tried to erase from my memory until I saw this thread and it all came flooding back.

A friend of mine and a long time supporter of the Town told me of a trip he made to see the lads at Millwall ( could have been West Ham but whatever , one of the two ) .He and his mates and a fair few others were let into an area of the ground and all was well , the game started and he settled down to watch. After a while a whistle was blown and to his surprise people around him started to put on balaclava type coverings . He thought wtf is happening , he soon found out as those around him witthout the balaclava’s ( including himself of course ) were attacked severely . He managed to escape further beatings as the Police intervened and he and a lot of bruised , battered and bewildered people were put into another “ safe” area. He has never experienced anything like it since and has no desire to repeat the experience. A day out that will stick long in his memory .

don't forget Halifax 79/80 league cup first game of season 2-2. A bunch of Leeds fans rocked up and proceeded to start lobbing cans of cider at us. It was a bit amusing to see Sweeny catch one and take a swig but it then became bins and we hardly watched the game I went by car and we left sharpish and only found out later in the Star that some off the coach were chased and shelter over a wall only to find is was a steep railway embankment and I think there were some nasty injuries. I am surprised Grizzly has not mentioned the notorious Luton night game when Smithy a pasting.
