What's your worst away game either watching one of the billions of terrible efforts of our blue and amber heroes or any other team. A good mate of mine here in Whitchurch is a Man. Utd fan who years ago when football violence was at its sadly most prevalent decided to hitch hike to London on a Saturday morning to watch them against Arsenal. He started thumbing it at about 6 am and unbelievably got a ride straight away in a wagon which was heading about an hour away from the ground. He also liked a sherbert or 10 and found a boozer at about 11 in the morning and proceeded to get leathered. Aston Villa were also playing in North London that day and one of their fans and my mate ( let's call him Huggy Beach as that is his name ) had a somewhat heated disagreement. Huggy did not win the exchange and promptly got stabbed in the stomach but not too badly thankfully. Hospital beckons and he missed the game which United lost so then had to get home. He finds himself on an underground which fills up with West Ham fans coming home. He has his scarf on and not only being stabbed now gets his head kicked in the jammy git. I can't quite match his good luck but my worst night out was watching the town at Mansfield on a Friday night during the Gary Peters era. We hadn't lost in 7 ( some kind of record ?? ) and they hadn't won in 8 so it was bound to go well. We had Joe Hart in goal so all was fine. We were predictably abysmal and got dicked four nil. I got home about half twelve and had to be in work at half four and was suitably knackered for the rest of the day. So what's your biggest waste of time following the beautiful game ??

telford in the cup
Hilton fa cup
dagenham 5-0 conf
Northwich vic conference ( couldn't see )
stoke 1-1 ( so unnecessarily crammed in it was dangerous and I felt ill )
scousers , would loved to have won that
Carlisle , ( its still on)
Blyth ( It was the first day I had what I now suspect as something similar to long covid, it was nov-april I was I'll ) the score didnt help
wolves away in 79 ( strange pick but the chap sat immediately in front of me had a heart attack during the game, shook me up and selfishly it spoilt my day, sadly he died )
the worst for me, gillingham Wembley , I've never felt such a sinking feeling in all my life as that ball went in

Far too many to remember, but I was at both Dagenham 5-0's and saw a 5-0 defeat at Cambridge and a 5-1 at Rushden (both the season we got relegated I think) and those spring to mind immediately as being bloody awful.

Darlington….. postponed once there! Carlisle …… postponed once there! Morecambe….. postponed once there!
2002/3 all within 5 months Boston 6-0 Ruston 5-1 (we beat Everton 3 days later) Cambridge 5-0 Darlington 5-1 Hartlepool 3-0
Hartlepool was the worst as it was the last chance to stay up…..

In no particular order for a variety of reasons (and excluding all Wembley trips)
Torquay away, supposed to be down there early but trains were delayed and got there at half time. We got a steward to let us in but were in the home end, we got taken to the away end through the side terrace and it was fairly obvious we were away fans. We then discovered we were 1 nil down and I think it finished that way
Mansfield away, Friday night, went on Smithy's coach and traffic was horrendous. We were then on a side terrace with no roof, it hammered down and we lost 4 nil.
Chester away, I was thrown out after about 10 minutes for being drunk (very young and foolish). I got home and my dad was asking me lots of questions about the match, it turned out a friend of his had seen me being escorted out.
Leyton Orient away, 3 nil down at half time and left the ground, went drinking around London, got the train back as far as Wolves. Then woke up in Oxford (got the wrong train) and had to spend the night there.
Cardiff away boxing day, went on Smithys coach, a big crowd of baying Welshman and probably no more than 200 of us sat in the corner surrounded by police/stewards. We lost 3-0 and I was mightily relieved to be back on the coach after the game

A very rainy night on the open terrace behind the goal at Macclesfield takes some beating.
Can't even remember the result.

Histon felt like a stabbing.... (closely followed by Boston away 6-0) For someone who hasn't been to anywhere near as many games as most on here (since I left for Germany), I somehow managed to be at both these games... And the two R&D games. And the one down in London against D&R too...

Torquay away March 2011. Lost 5-0.
The on loan Jake Robinson scored 2 against us (we'd forgotten to put a clause into his loan contract preventing him from playing). Grandison was sent off for fouling him.
The taxi that ran me back to my hotel was driven by Ian Sharp's cousin, who found the whole thing rather amusing.

I'd take being p**s wet through on a terrace away at Macclesfield than sitting in our soulless lego box any day of the week. It was a good away day, albeit I was absolutely soaked through!
2-0 away at Darlington under Peters was horrendous, one of the worst, in fact most away games under him were terrible.
Blyth in the cup was an absolute shocker of a day out.
Every visit to Wembley has been hideous.
I'm sure there's plenty more, I'll have to jog my memory.

Good old Jayne, had her mind firmly on other things. Cost us a fortune on Bradshaw as well.

7 - 1 at Chesterfield is another for me. You know what was a worse experience of going all the way to Carlisle from London to find out the game was off? DOING IT AGAIN THE FOLLOWING TUESDAY. The drive home almost killed me. Worst away days can surely include a win. 14th December 2003 - Margate 0 - 2 (played in Dover) - Town limped to a late win after the MOTHER of all long trips to watch them!

One that really sticks in the memory is an away trip to Norwich back in 1981.
Because it was an early start on the coach from the GM on the Saturday morning my friend Mark and me travelled to Shrewsbury on the Friday and stayed the night at the Lion Hotel.
Arrived at Carrow Road to be herded into a metal pen behind one of the goals. (For the younger supporters among us I would best describe the experience as being squashed into a modern day cage fighter arena).
As for the game I think we went one down before Paul Petts? equalised, only for us to concede a last minute winner.
Lost 2-1. Herded back to the coaches and back home we went. Finally got to the GM and then had to pick up the car and face a further journey back to Tywyn.
An away trip that started on the Friday and finished in the early hours of Sunday morning and I didn't even see us lose because the view from the "pen" was non existent 😅

I’ve probably been to a tiny proportion of away games compared to some, but still witnessed some absolute shockers.
1) 1-0 defeat at Anfield, purely because of the lack of drive and ambition 2) 4-0 defeat at Rochdale in heavy snow with about 100 others from Salop, (maybe 2009ish?) think Craig Dawson now at West Ham scored a couple of headers, dreadful defending that day 3) 4-0 defeat at Bradford, nakhi wells hat trick (2011ish at a guess?)

stoke 1-1 ( so unnecessarily crammed in it was dangerous and I felt ill ) I take it you were squeezed into the same pen as I was at the old Victoria Ground. Very warm day, pens next to us were empty, and yet we were herded into one pen, which was dangerously overcrowded.

Possibly not the worst ever but one not yet mentioned was Brighton at the Withdean (c2000 or 2001 I think).
Rain storm of biblical proportions from about 1.30 on that completely open terrace (has there ever been a worse terrace in the history of football in the rain?). Town didnt turn up in the first half, 4-0 down at HT, Redmile sent off so down to 10 and **** wet through. Ref was looking to call it off at HT due to the puddles everywhere, but rain eased and the full 90 mins had to be endured by Town fans. Still soaked when we got back to Shropshire 5 hours later. At least we drew the second half 0-0....
You follow your team through all adversary I was told.....

Yes I do t think I’ve ever been so wet and they tried to sell us black dustbin bags to put over us!! The windows on the coach were steamed up all the way back!

Yes we got a draw that day to stay up , fortunately they did open another pen , after some doddering old inspector turned up to see what all the fuss was about , had that happened today it would make big news
