The Radio Shropshire tweet is no weirder than any of the other guff posing as ITK on here by many posters. Isn't that a bit different from a BBC account?

To be honest I expect our rumours to be weird but I also expect BBC ones to be a bit more definite somehow.

Would appear to be one that got away. Having read the article it seems like he would've been a decent signing, but we move on. Clearly we need one more centre back, two if Ebanks-Landell is moved on.

Would be a very, very good signing. Hopefully Roland thinks he's finally got the right man in change and that he wants to back him. Awaiting top half odds. Top 6 is available @ 6/1. I think Roland might be thinking , this is the season he will really have a go once and for all. Can understand from A owner perspective having more confident in Cotterill spending additional wages/fee’s than a younger / inexperienced manager like Ricketts say Finances wise, we've got to do one of two things this year; sell on a player or two for a decent 7 figure sum or reach a Wembley final. Preferably both unless Roland can get on the blower to his mate Elton again. We won't achieve either of those targets by not being ambitious in the transfer market (unless we can miracle up the mythical non league gem). Speculate to accumulate. Trying to grab a decent striker like Aneke who might go for a mil and possibly spearhead a playoff campaign is a smart move.

If we look at the last batch of players to go for good money - Nolan, Nsiala, Woods and Goldson - all four were in that sweet spot where they had played enough games at a good level to prove their ability yet were still young enough to suggest they could further improve. Id think Aneke is perhaps a bit too old and bit much of a known quantity to really have much “potential value”, so he’d need to be turning in a 20+ goals Holt-esque season straight off the bat if we’re looking for any resale value.

Hi all I listen to comments about making money. The underlining factor is that if Roland wants Championship football there are two things he needs to commit to. The first is to have a manager to get promotion. The second is to provide the finance. The first we have. The second is what we don’t know about. My thoughts are this. In previous seasons the transfer rumours have been rife to the point that we have known before the transfers happen. This time it’s totally quiet. That tells me what is going on transfer wise is high level negotiations. The other part of this is that Roland is committed. This is my take, but I would put my money on it.

Cant we knock a team together with free transfer signings and loans, all good managers can do it, as proved with durban and turner in years gone by----- turner done it in the old div 2, which was a hell of an achievement.with a bit of wheeling and dealing, I'm sure cotterill can knock together a very competitive team without spending to much money👍👍

Spent a bit but not much---- durban bought bates and Haywood from stourbridge for peanuts as the 2 strikers, and a few free transfers, and 1 or 2 youth players, plus what was already there.turner bought dungworth for 100,000, and he was a big flop.yes shrewsbury had a good scouting system then, especially up scotland, most of the players were free transfers, or he paid very little for them, bar dungworth

It’s all about arbitrage at the end of the day, every man and his dog is looking for unpolished diamonds in non league or Scotland/Ireland/Wales now so that “edge” is by and large lost

I suppose shrewsbury were very lucky to have jock Fulton as there main scout up in scotland.he scouted some very good players up in scotland for the club.maguire, king, McLaren, all excellent players.and pearson, tester and colin Robinson--- all non league players, but turned out to be great signings for the club.so it can be done

If Roland was ever going to hand a pot of money to build a playoff team to a manager in League 1 I bet Steve would have been top of his list for a long time.
Steve wouldn't have come here if he had only been offered resources for mid-table obscurity either.
After the massive escape him and Aaron did last year I doubt Roland will have any doubts if Steve tells him he needs to pay out for a certain player.
They'll be money available.

I mentioned similar thoughts on a 3 year plan to get championship football. With Roland retiring and SC getting close too...seems likely to splash some cash. Let's prey it doesn't go pete tong.

No matter how much I love speculation, with a new gaffer I prefer to wait and see what rabbit he pulls out of the hat with his scouting team and his own excellent player knowledge

Had it on very good authority from a few different people that Roland will be supporting Steve very well this summer - hence now being linked to people like Aneke and also signing Pennington.

It would be a shame if the most capable manager for decades doesn't get financial backing. I wouldn't be too upset if we don't buy messi this summer however, as long as we finish top half. Consider that progress, then next season add a few more names and start pushing for playoffs and beyond.
Although if you're reading this Mr Cotterill, feel free go for promotion this season! 😁

It’s not only who we sign but also how this signing fits in with the rest of the team, the dressing room atmosphere, etc. A team that works for each other is a much better option than one ‘big time Charlie’ who is only here for the money.

Something like a final or a lucrative FA Cup run or big transfer fee will be required to get the same financial support the following season.........
