Our recruitment success or failure will not be simply down to investment from the board, we will always have the stigma of being thought of as a small well run family club.
A manager having contacts will help for sure, especially in the loan market but we need to be realistic, that season we have in 17’ will take some beating but it was made up for talent that was either hidden gems, excellent young loanees and some experienced campaigners with a superb chemistry. That has to be a Shrews blueprint. We simply can’t attract marquee signings just because we might be able to offer a few more quid, especially if the big boys like Sunderland and Ipswich come calling.

The signs are good. We have a manager in place who wouldnt be with us if he thought he wasnt going to be able to bring good players to the club and we have a Chairman/Supporter close to retirement who will want to give the Championship one last shot. If the so called smaller clubs like Lincoln can get close there is no reason at all why we cant. Looking forward to watching some decent opponents in pre season and see how we get on. In the Hurst season we played a number of Championship clubs and beat them all which gave me confidence to have for the first time in my life a number of pre season bets on how town would get on in that season. I made a decent amount of money so may well have a flutter again in a few weeks time especially if we are seen as relegation fodder as seems the case at the moment.

But only because of the Covid points thing at the end of the season. We don’t actually know if they would have made it without that. But I take your point.

I see that Lewis Cox has now toddled off to the North of Scotland for a couple of weeks, where text message reception and internet access is sparse. Does this mean that any signings are likely to be announced en-block at a later date, or will someone else be delegated by the Star to bring us updates? The club are strangely quiet on proceedings at present, surely everyone can’t be on holiday?

There is usually someone there to cover but the club like to get in first anyway so keep tabs on the club twitter feed

Usually a quiet time for signings these few weeks. Probably start to pick up momentum from 1st July when players contracts (wages) finish.

Have to say I'm absolutely furious that Lewis Cox has had the nerve to go on holiday.

Luke Daniels released by Brentford today. Still only 33 and would surely consider stepping down to League 1 to be a regular choice.

On that topic, where is the keeper, young lad we had on loan from spurs a few years back (went to Brentford as well I recall) very good keeper

Thats the man. I wouldnt mind him on loan for a season Think Button would be hoping for better a chance at a Championship club still. Think more chance with one of WBAs younger keepers - Palmer or Griffiths - and that would go down well with me.

Move down a division after being an almost ever present in league 1. Must be more money and closer to home.
