well done for volunteering we need as many as possible to boost the roll out Thanks. It's been lovely seeing the older generation stepping forward to get the jab. So many people. So many in such good spirits. It's heart warming. I've been taking temperatures mainly. So nothing too technical. If there is anyone out there who is in the 70+ or vulnerable group then I suggest you follow your local surgery on social media if you can. Should there be availability of appointments they will put out a call for those groups to get down there for a jab. Behind the scenes there are people at the centres constantly calling around if there is space. Late on Sunday night they worked out that they had 3 spare doses. They come in a bottle of 6 and after 6 hours they have to be chucked out. It was almost like scoring a goal as 3 people stepped forward. "Late on Sunday night they worked out that they had 3 spare doses. They come in a bottle of 6 and after 6 hours they have to be chucked out. It was almost like scoring a goal as 3 people stepped forward." it is encouraging to see that flexability and common sense. Israel runs a drop in at every clinic on a first come first serverd basis after the vaccination clinics have closed to use up any spare doses which is just part of the reason why they have managed to vaccinate so many people.

from the mail "Ursula von der Leyen has thrown her deputy leader under the bus over the EU vaccine shambles, that saw Brussels threaten Britain with a vaccine export ban.
On Monday, the European Commission president pinned the fiasco - that would have seen a hard Irish 'vaccine border' implemented were it not for a later U-turn- on Valdis Dombrovskis, the European Commissioner for Trade.
'This regulation falls under the responsibility of Mr Dombrovskis,' Eric Mamer, the European Commission's chief spokesman, said on Monday of the former prime minister of Latvia."

My husband had his yesterday morning, being his child bride I was two groups behind him so thought I might have to wait til next month. Husband mentioned to the Dr that we only lived 5 mins away and if there were spare vaccines at the end of the day I could get there quickly. Got a call at 7.55 last night. Got the jab and after the 15 min wait was home by 8.30. The staff were more excited than me about having no wastage, one said that theyโve gone out into the car park to find people at times. The appointment system works well but sometimes they find people who they canโt vaccinate on the day.

During this pandemic, the government have made some mistakes, some bigger than others, some foreseen some, as a matter of consequence, and at times just pure bad luck. They have not been helped by people not doing as asked, and media hype. However we have to take hats off to the vaccine program, including the procurement and roll out and say well done to Matt Hancock, Kate Bingham and everyone involved.

Some practices have set up registers for this very purpose. Trust you to put a downer on it.

the only question i have with spare jabs is what happens re the 2nd jab ?
are those suddenly bumped up the queue or do they have to wait until they should have had it ?

From what I understand your second appointment is 12 weeks from the first one. It is booked at the time of the first jab. The various vaccination centres have to justify every out of group jab.

i have no problem with clinics using any spare jabs at the end of the day rather than them been wasted, the advantage of the surgerys starting to vaccinate is that they can ring around and try get people to come and use them up, this will be less of an issue with the oxford vaccine,

i had a look on my surgery and it has strated on cohorts 3 and 4 on the Covid Vaccination Program. (dont know when as it was not dated they wont be given at my surgery but Severnfields Medical Practice.which makes sense as it is next to the sports village which has a large car park ( this is good news and would presume that is were all the shropshire vaccination centers have got to)
โข All those 75 years of age and over โข All those 70 years of age and over and clinically extremely vulnerable individuals

After being told by my doctors on Monday that I'd probably have to wait weeks if I wanted to be vaccinated locally, the Orthopedic Hospital in Gobowen phoned me today and I'll be having my vaccination tomorrow.

Had my vaccination this am at Telford United Ground . My slot was 10:35 but I was done and dusted by 10:30 . Really good experience , no queuing at all , straight in .Had heard that it had been a terrible experience for some early in the week but I cannot praise them enough - brilliant. Next to me having his jab was Exkeeper ๐and his lovely wife Christine keeping him in check no doubt . All in all I am very relieved it all went well - hope others have a similar experience.

the longer the world takes to roll out the vaccination then as we have already discovered new mutations will take place, it is not all gloom and doom as another of the new vaccines also gives protection against the south african strain, both pfizer and oxford vaccine both wotk against the south african straine and oxford are already working on a new vaccine.(which is prudent) www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-55933328"Society is unlikely to return to normal until "well into next year", one of the world's leading scientists has warned. Prof Helen Rees, from South Africa but whose family is from Wales, sits on the World Health Organization's (WHO) committee for Covid-19. She told BBC Wales Live there is concern "first generation" vaccines will be less effective against new variants of coronavirus." whilst i apreciate there is less research on the half dose full dose vaccination with the oxford vaccine and this may not have passed the requirments for the validation. it seems strange that when this gives you 90% effectivness against serious ilness we are going with two full doses that gives you 70% ? in possibly answering my own question as the goverment have gone down the route of giving as many people as possible an injection with a 12 week gap and obviously starting with a half a dose would give less protection than a full dose. www.thesun.co.uk/news/13914930/oxford-vaccine-south-africa-variant-covid/"Speaking at a Downing Street press conference last night, Dr Susan Hopkins, adviser to Public Health England (PHE) said three of the vaccines that have been used to date in trials have been shown to be effective against the South African strain. There are three important figures when considering how effective the Oxford vaccine is - 62 per cent, 70 per cent and 90 per cent. Data published in medical journal The Lancet in December 2020 showed a two dose regimen of the Oxford jab was 62 per cent effective in preventing serious illness. But the trial also found that efficacy rose to 90 per cent when people were given half a dose followed by a full dose a month later. However, the MHRA approved a two-dose regimen - so Brits will not receive half a dose in any case. According to the UK's Joint Committee of Vaccinations and Immunisations (JCVI), the jab provides 70 per cent protection 22 days after the first dose."

Plenty of praise with the way itโs been rolled out here. at relatively short notice
