Grigg had it. Got L1 player of the year. Even has a song - 'Will Griggs on fire, your defence is terrified'.
Hopefully my fellow countryman can impress us, and not embarrass me haha.

Bit disconcerting is that he's been out with a knee injury since mid December.

Very interesting article, rings alarm bells to me. Who is our number 10? We play direct football, don't think he will suit our style of play, sounds like he needs lots of crosses and creativity, but then i think every striker does! We don't get that many chances in a game Whalley seems to be the creator or the scorer but playing in the middle he is wasted for a player for the style of Grigg. If we sign Grigg, Whalley needs to play wide and supply something into that box, something i thought Millar provided, but if that's the case why sign somebody else when Clarke or Pyke will do that job. I am no fan of Clarke i think he is lazy i have been slated for saying that early on in the season. But Grigg will be the same type of player. What we need is supply from wide players that will provide so crosses into that box, which any of our strikers would thrive off. Maybe this is why every striker we have that pulls on our shirt doesn't suit.

Regarding Cummings, I wouldnt read too much into that, I expect its him/his agent playing hardball and want a better payoff before moving on. I would be surprised if he is still here next week, personally wouldnt be surprised to see Clarke move on too

I would say our number 10 is Whalley or perhaps Chapman. You are right Whalley is our best attacking option but I'm wondering if Cotterill is planning Grigg up front with Chapman playing just behind him and then have the options of Vela, Norburn, Davis, Goss behind them. But you are right, the key is out wide and having some attacking options out there. For me, getting a decent RWB is more of a priority than bringing in another striker

In his previous spells at Wigan & MK he showed he is more than capable of scoring. As I've mentioned a few times on this thread, the bigger question is really about whether he fits in with our style of play. Guess we might get to actually find out

I didn't realise Cummings had scored 10 in 27!! If we can get Griggs, I'll worry about his form once he's actually started playing for us. Sometimes it doesn't work for players at certain clubs. The Holt comparison is a good one. His stats at Forest weren't great but for us, wow what a signing! Griggs is worth a punt for me.

He's listed on the Stoke site as a full back.

Guess we might get to actually find out I’ve always been a fan of the kind of set up we had at Milton Keynes with no striker in the formation , we literally ripped them apart for best part of an hour , the only thing that went wrong that night apart from the decisions was the usual case of fitness problems and a keeper not able to sort out his defence , Pugh had one of the best games I’ve seen a town player have this season and he was never to be tried doing that again , Spain did a similar thing and won the World Cup doing it so it’s not as if it can’t work , our current style usually results in us having one shot on target and all is well on the off chance it goes in and the defence play a blinder and keep a clean sheet , we can’t keep doing that , can we ?

That 10 in 27 is very misleading as says 10 in 27 starts and we famously know that 2 of the goals came in a game he didnt start. In the league he has had 20 starts and made 15 sub appearances, he has scored 4. Sounds slightly less impressive!

Just as we were a graveyard for the goal scoring exploits of the likes of Cureton and Richard Walker, plus John Dungworth, others have thrived here - Holt, Collins, Jemson etc. Sunderland may just be Grigg’s “fly in the ointment” club and a move could start the goals flowing again. Those who remember Dungworth will remember his problem - he was scoring for fun at Aldershot, many of his goals were from using his pace to latch onto to balls between the fullback and centre back, supplied by ex Town winger Alex McGregor. We should have brought him back along with JD. Instead we used him as a target man, spending most of his time facing his own goal, which was totally alien to him.

Yeah hes a left back (not a left wing back mind) Are you sure? Questionable based on Stoke Sentinel The 21-year-old burst back into the first team fold in the summer under Michael O'Neill and has reinvented himself as a disciplined central midfielder.
He has produced eye-catching performances, including an electric cameo at Nottingham Forest and in cup wins over Wolves and Aston Villa – and has been versatile enough to be used at left wing-back and on the wing.

At the end of a Will Grigg article in the Shropshire Star: And while Grigg looks set to sign, fellow front-runner Jason Cummings is determined to fight for Shrewsbury career amid uncertainty around his future.
The out-of-favour striker, 25, is out of contract in the summer and has made just one EFL Trophy start since Cotterill’s appointment in November.
Cummings, hero of the FA Cup tie with Liverpool a year ago this week, is believed to be desperate for a chance to succeed at Salop.
It is thought the Scotland international frontman has been told he is part of Town’s plans, but Shrewsbury are understood to be in the market for another striker before next Monday’s transfer deadline, with a deal for Grigg progressing.
The centre-forward, who has 10 goals in 27 starts for the club, is keen to make his time at Shrewsbury a success and is not interested in looking elsewhere despite potential suitors north of the border.
To me, if Cummings was rumoured to be just coming in this transfer window he would still sound like a "wow" signing. I hope his career takes off again - with us!

Great comments, pompous oaf - Surely we can get him a championship loan. He needs to be playing higher quality football than Shrewsbury Post by gingerninja 3 hours ago If he comes back from there and has the same effect as Tyrese I will be happy.

Wasn’t there another player we wanted from them who we didn’t get because they couldn’t get a replacement or is it the same bloke?
You’d think a big club like that players would be falling over themselves to get there.

Yeah, Cummings talk just agents stuff probably. But his stats read like someone we would have welcomed in. I suppose we could just do a stright swap, Cummings for Grigg, rekindle both careers in new surroundings?
