These ODIs are coming thick and fast!
It's now the turn of South Africa. Currently going along nicely at 6 an over.

Lot's of worrying stories recently in cricket
SA forfeiting a one day tour to focus on the launch of their new T20 competition The franchises of that competition being linked to the franchises in the IPL Ben Stokes retiring from the one day game due to the number of matches Ravi Shastri calling for a reduction test nations Andrew Strauss's high performance review allegedly leading to a reduction of first class cricket in the country
All signs point to T20 dominating cricket around the globe and everything else fitting in around that. And the poor old ECB somehow have to try and fit in the 100 too

That tournament should never have been allowed to see the light of day, and only exists by virtue of the corporate greed of the ECB. Not only does it run as a poor relative of the T20 Blast, but by relegating the 50 over competition to the margins, it has now affected the performances of the England ODI side, whose players get little if any practice in the format, as most have been syphoned off by The Hundred.

My 'poor old ECB' was definitely said tongue in cheek I'm well aware that they are as much to blame for the mess in cricket today.

Northeast's final score was 410*. I am surprised that he's never made into the England squad (home or away) it's not that long ago when he was regularly averaging over 50 in the County Championship.

How many more chances is Roy going to be given? England could either open with Salt, or promote Bairstow to open with Buttler and bring in Brook.

Harry Brook must surely make his England debut before the Summer is out... County Championship:967 runs at an average of 107.44 (3 hundreds, 6 50s) T20 Blast:436 runs, average 39.64. If he's not going to figure for England then let him go back to Yorkshire to play red ball cricket.

However, some amazing catches and fielding from SA tonight. I was at Cardiff last night for it, sadly (for us) SA were completely different in the field from the night before

Worcestershire Last 2 Championship Matches thrown away. Barnard and Moeen both leaving. Constantly losing wickets in the 4 day game by wafting at balls outside the off stump. Pollock treating every game as if it's a T20 game, Libby out of form all season, Asif Ali not available for crucial games, Cornell and Kashif too inexperienced, Fell waiting for his P45, D'Oliveira fading after a promising start and now injured, Cox unavailable due to mental health issues. Only Haynes escapes criticism, and I can see him moving on once his current contract expires.

Some live cricket for me today!
Down the road in Boughton watching Cheshire take on Warwickshire in a one day game.
Delayed start due to rain overnight but the sun is now out with a nice breeze. Weather set fair, touch wood.

Most onlookers had been waiting to see how Buttler's opening partner was going to get himself out. Jason Roy knows all about nightmares – he’s been living one all summer, and here he was again, getting hit on the pad by Lungi Ngidi’s first ball, toeing the next to mid-off, clothing the third and swinging-and-missing at the fourth.
Roy survived two overs of that only to fall to Anrich Nortje. His walk-offs have been getting progressively slower and here, with his bat slung over his shoulder, he looked like a miner at the end of a particularly harrowing shift.
The Guardian.
Why oh why hasn't Roy been dropped by now? How many chances do they want to give him whilst he continues to have a negative effect at the top of the order? His slow scoring in the power play has been very much a factor in England losing the last two T20s. I also think he's been indirectly responsible for Buttler losing his wicket early, as the captain tries to make up for Roy's pedestrian scoring rate.

With the T20 World Cup in late October I'd say we're in a spot of bother. Only two batters seem worthy of starting currently and that's Butler and Bairstow. The bowling has had some decent individual performances from Gleeson, Topley and Willey today but they haven't all bowled well on the same day. Sam Curran is a good cricketer but has done nothing with bat or ball while Jordan has been very expensive and even Rashid poor. Balance of the team was off today as well, needed another batsman. The Hundred starts now,as well as the 50 over tournament, so time for everyone to find form but to also identify the three or four players who might have to come in.

England Lions playing South Africa in a 4 day game down in Canterbury.
Currently tea on day 2.
Opportunity for a number of the England Lions to impress the selectors ahead of the first test.
Earlier, Craig Overton 5 for 74.
