I've completed the questionnaire, but I found the last question impossible, as working in education (as a Lecturer) wasn't available as an answer.

I take it that nobody was complimentary about the Hundred! Talking of The Hundred, I have 4 x tickets available for the dual men & womens games feat Birm Phoenix. I cant now go so happy for them to go at face value...£60 for all four (2 x adult and 2 x junior 5-16) Send me a PM if you are interested.

England have been struggling for a No3 batsman for some years now. James Hildreth went on a Lion's tour several years ago (Windies I think !!) and I believe he was captain. From what I remember he more than justified himself, but was still not given a chance in the England Test squad. A fine batsman in his prime, but probably 'another' whose face didn't fit. ECB selectors should be ashamed of themselves for not giving him a chance. But then again they are at present ruining the Test & County game for the sake of 'pyjama' cricket. As I've said before.... they don't care, as long as they are making loads of money.

As I've said before.... they don't care, as long as they are making loads of money. It was encouraging to see a photo in the Daily Mail showing a large crowd at Scarborough watching a Royal London one day game. The real cricket enthusiasts are a dying breed, and as they depart, so too will 1st of all the one day games, eventually followed by 5 day Test Matches, which will initially be cut down to 4 days, and then restricted to games between 6 or 7 countries at most. Regrettably, the ECB see the one day game to be of secondary concern to the Hundred, removing the best county players to play in pyjamas designed like crisp packets whilst those players who remain with their Counties are deemed to be classified as development squads. The final is no longer at Lords. I believe the IPL want to get the best T20 players under full time contracts and then franchise them out to T20 Leagues everywhere. This of course smacks of double standards, as the IPL contracts of Indian players at present ban them from playing in other Leagues. The whole thing is so depressing.

I really do hope he figures in this upcoming test series.

Jason Roy. Another failure this afternoon. 0 in 2 balls.
Surely his time is up? He's been given far more chances than most.

Comment on cricinfo:
"The sight of such a sparsely populated Lords is pretty shocking. Perhaps a sign to the administrators that either pricing is wrong or that the schedule is becoming so saturated that the public is losing interest. Sad sight"
ECB have only themselves to blame. Still, so long as they are coining it with the dreadful 'Hundred' which is running in parallel with this Test and their CEO and senior management receive their bonuses, life goes on.
I also note that unlike the other Test Grounds, Lords will not be letting in everyone for free on the 5th day of the match.

Rabada a bit too rapid, 25-2, Crawley's last stand ? I suspect he will get this series but that could be the end of him, although the question would be who do you replace him with. Realistically we will probably just go back to previous openers who have failed

Crawley's record.
Test 25 46 0 1229 267 26.71 2265 ODI 3 3 1 97 58* 48.50 85 FC 83 148 3 4295 267 29.62 7613
A 1st class average of under 30 from 148 innings for a recognised batsman is appalling.
His average for Tests is even worse. He's had plenty of opportunities too.

Not good enough.

100-5 at Lunch Stokes departs, don't look at that "tail", and some were saying SA had picked one too many bowlers ?

England surely can't continue to go into 5 day Tests with 2 dodgy openers and a last 4 of Broad, Potts, Leach and Anderson.
It puts far too much pressure on Numbers 3 to 7 in the order.
Perhaps persuading Moeen to return to Test Cricket plus picking a seam bowler who can bat (either of the Overtons or Currans?) might be the way forward.
As for the openers - any suggestions?

As for the openers - any suggestions? That's a tough one. Some of the candidates doing ok in red ball this season have been tried before, Keaton Jennings, for example. A new name I would however throw in the mix would be Ben Compton of Kent. Harry Brook must surely come into the side at some point soon (doesn't solve our problem at the top of the order though).

All one way traffic at the moment.
Although saying that Ben Stokes has just picked up the wicket of Sarel Erwee.
South Africa lead England by 22 runs with 6 wickets remaining.
