Day one very much belongs to the visitors. I thought the Trent Bridge wicket would have offered much more, certainly on the first day.

New Zealand flying so far this morning.
Already added 64 to the overnight score.
And yet another catch goes to ground...

NZ 553....
time for the English batsmen to step up...
without the help of Zak Crawley.
From the BBC live reporting:
In Crawley's 29 innings since he scored a double century against Pakistan in 2020, he has scored one century and two other 50s. He's been out in single figures in 18 of those 29 innings.

I suppose we shouldn't get carried away after the one win, there's going to be plenty of ups & downs in the new regime
The fielding is the obvious frustration, particularly after it had improved in the first test.
Crawley is very much in last chance saloon you would think, he has a technical flaw and is hopefully young enough that he can go away and improve on it.

Well that was an exhilarating day's play Pope, Root, Stokes....those at Trent Bridge today certainly got their moneys worth.

From Sunday onwards was when the Glamorgan v Sussex game was originally scheduled to be played at Rhos on Sea.
Just my luck. 4 days of excellent weather and the match is now in Cardiff. No idea why they couldn't put it on this year.

516/5 to 539 all out does once again showcase the weakness of the England tail from 8 onwards.

516/5 to 539 all out does once again showcase the weakness of the England tail from 8 onwards. That could well be the achilles heel of this new look England going forward. I suppose if Woakes/Curran were fit they could come in but that would be at the expense of a seamer/spinner.

Interesting day to come, if they add 35-40 to get to 273-278 in front, using say 12 overs with the loss of 3 for the Innings break, leaving England 75 overs at 3.71 per over to get over the winning line, or obviously 10 wickets in 75 overs.

516/5 to 539 all out does once again showcase the weakness of the England tail from 8 onwards. To an extent yes but I guess it shows the all out attacking nature of the team and the tail certainly won't be hanging around long if they are going to be trying to score runs! It was certainly a collapse but it's nice to be talking of a collapse when we have 500+ on the board

Brainless short pitched bowling to NZ's No.11 Boult by Stokes.

England require 299 off a minimum of 72 overs.

Experts like me who were praising Bairstow’s inclusion before the First Test will be sitting back well satisfied.
Fantastic performance from England once again.

When did a side batting first scoring over 500 loose a test match?

Would imagine there'd have been six page of grumbling by now had we collapsed, and eight had Shagger had one of his rare failings, will generously assume it's everyone dancing on the ceiling in celebration that's responsible for the lack of engagement on here.
Anyone know what Franny's up to these days? Another Chokes failure.

One of our greatest test wins, given the dire straights we have been in, and New Zealand racking up 550.
Honeymoon period? Yes. But it’s going to be an entertaining ride one way or the other with Baz at the helm

Fantastic win and great to see England going for the win, rather than wasting time and playing for draws like they have under various captains/management for a number of years.
There will be times where the approach doesn't work, even in this test Stokes was being questioned for the way he got out in the first innings, but it's certainly not going to be dull.
Also credit to Trent Bridge for the wicket they put on, after both teams scored 500+ in the first innings there was suggestions that it was a poor surface and too easy for batters, there were 11 dropped catches in the game, if those has been taken then it would have been very different.

This is why outgrounds should be retained, and why I'm fed up that Glamorgan aren't playing at Rhos on Sea this week.
'Should you come to the cricket ground at Chesterfield, there are beeches and copper beeches, there are oaks and weeping ash and liquidambar and ancient yews; there is an old mulberry tree near one of the two bandstands, and there is a lake, and across the road there is Parkside Café, which rivals Wickets in Taunton as the best nosebag on the circuit.
And while you are eating your cobs and drinking your coffee, you can look again at the sweet chestnut and the sycamores and marvel at the trees' fellowship and think of the consolation offered by conifers that stay green when the rest of their world is grey and the cricket ground is sleeping. And when you look beyond or above the trees, you will see buildings that have summat about them, like the six-columned town hall or the Church of St Mary and All Saints; yes, the one with the spire that's gone in the fetlock. You see, you know the place already. Look up the route, now, before the magic fades'.

David Willey does a Josh Vela! England all-rounder David Willey is to quit Yorkshire and rejoin former club Northamptonshire for next season. Willey, 32, returns to Wantage Road seven years after moving north to further his international ambitions. The signing of one of the country's premier white-ball players is a real coup for the midlands county and is an interesting one, not least because he agreed a new three-year deal under the previous coaching regime at Headingley last autumn but did not complete the paperwork. www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/cricket/article-10919425/England-star-David-Willey-rejoin-Northamptonshire-seven-years-leaving-Yorkshire.htmlCan't see Moeen Ali staying at Worcs. He's out of contract at the end of the season and both Yorks and Warwicks are interested in signing him.
