www.shropshirestar.com/news/politics/2020/09/14/all-systems-go-on-riverside-plans/this might explain why they wont to close the bus station "Councillor Nutting said the project was intended to make the town more visitor friendly, with plans to include replacing Raven Meadows car park and Frankwell bridge with a more accessible structures. He said: “I think it will change the atmosphere. We are trying create a much more visitor-friendly atmosphere for the town centre. “We don’t want people having to drive through the multi-storey. You have to go around steep humps and tight corners and then you manage to park and there’s a pillar against your door." were is the evidence that this will happen, the council have been pushing cycle to work at shire hall with loans to but bicycles the take up for the scheme was very small. the y have bollards at castle gates for cycling and i hardly see anyone cycling on it. “We also have to think about how the North West Relief Road could affect the town centre. We do really believe it will relieve a considerable percentage of traffic on Smithfield Road and the town centre, and allow us to do more cycling and pedestrian schemes.” in another article they looked to be finding £ 11million to refurbish the shopping centres, so is the covered in that figure or are they looking to fund this another way?

Lovely sweet and sour chicken after a few pints in town! I liked Cheers, it was always good to have some smaller clubs to go to. It was formerly The Riverboat and then Quinnies. Might've been something else too?

www.shropshirestar.com/news/local-hubs/oswestry/2020/09/24/future-of-bus-stations-up-for-discussion/"Bus operators say they are worried that the station in Oswald Road could go, replaced by bus stops in the town, while they say losing the coach layover would give drivers nowhere to rest between journeys. The doubts follow fears that Shrewsbury Bus Station and bus layover at Raven Meadows could also go as part of the hrewsbury Big Town Plan. Two bus firms that use the facilities in Oswestry say they are keen to work with Shropshire Council to improve bus travel. Oswestry's Town Plan 2020 includes a 'review and operation' of the Oswestry Road Coach Park and a review of the town centre bus stops as part of the redevelopment of the Gobowen Road northern entrance to the town." "A spokesman for Tanat Valley Coaches, which runs a number of bus services to and from Oswestry, said it feared the bus station could be lost to the redevelopment of the area around it, including the former Morrisons store next door. If the bus stations were lost in Oswestry and Shrewsbury people would be more inclined to use their cars and those who have not got their own transport, as always, would be disadvantaged."

It was originally called the 'CHANTICLEER'. Had some very good meals in there during the 60's.

Maybe it’s artistic licence or just a shop sign. Btw, the restaurant was originally the Hung Hing, why would it be called the Curry House when it was a Chinese?

The property with the sign was a restaurant called the Galleon in the 50’s, and became a Chinese restaurant (presumably Hung Hing) and then the Curry House I don’t remember it as the Galleon but have seen old photos on Shroppiemons excellent Memories of Shropshire Facebook Group

When I was at The Priory we used to call it Chinky Alley (🤐) so I guess it was Chinese then (1965/ to 70) but certainly when Tiffany’s was open (1973/4?) we used to go there after and it was The Curry House

Good detective work! I’ll be very happy if you can find the name of the Chinese restaurant at the bottom of Mardol.

Chanticleer. Not sure of spelling. We’re going round in circles that was upstairs in The Riverside i suspect there might not have been one, only basing it on never heard of one in mardol before i did like the bejjing terrace under the multi story car park, and even better the china rose although hardly ever went there as it was quite pricey

There was definitely a Chinese restaurant at the bottom of Mardol, the only uncertainty in my mind is what it was called. I still think it was Hung Hing.
