Good detective work! I’ll be very happy if you can find the name of the Chinese restaurant at the bottom of Mardol. Hung Hing definitely had a restaurant at the bottom of Mardol in the mid 60s, next to Carnarvon Lane.

I have just checked back and found this same topic on B&A, dated 8th May 2013. I had a photo at that time showing Hung Hing, which was opposite Mac Fisheries, near the Kings Head. Unfortunately, I have no hope of finding that photo now.

There was definitely a Chinese restaurant at the bottom of Mardol, the only uncertainty in my mind is what it was called. I still think it was Hung Hing. As I’ve said embarrassingly we used to call it Chinky Alley from around 1965 BUT I had my first curry there (Chicken Malay on the bone) upstairs in 69/70 and it was then called The Curry House
