I think if you could be bothered to read through the rest of it, you'd find there is a lot more than can just be dismissed with the throwaway remark 'so what?' And you should be bothered that a chancer like Jenrick is put anywhere near a Ministerial position. if I take my parents some essentials tomorrow will you delve into my past on the back of it ? Only wearing appropriate ppe.

The fiasco over a shipment of personal protective equipment (PPE) from Turkey has been laid bare as it emerged that the Government had failed to secure the order before making a public announcement.
Officials ordered 400,000 gowns from a private company but made no checks on whether the goods could be exported despite being aware of a restrictions imposed by President Tayyip Erdoğan.
They only contacted the Turkish Government to begin negotiations on Sunday – the day that it had been said that the gowns would land in the UK. The shipment finally landed at RAF Brize Norton on Wednesday, but was not complete.

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8248685/Downing-Street-told-not-publicise-PPE-shipment-Turkey-case-didnt-turn-up.htmlDowning Street ignored a Department of Health warning not to announce the imminent delivery of vital safety equipment from Turkey which later turned into a farce by taking days to arrive, it was claimed today. Senior officials reportedly warned No 10 and Communities Minister Robert Jenrick that any public confirmation of the plane-load of personal protective equipment (PPE) for NHS staff battling coronavirus could backfire. But Jenrick was authorised to announce its imminent arrival on Saturday, a decision which sparked major embarrassment when it became clear it would not be ready in time. A Department of Health Source told the Guardian: 'We strongly advised Robert Jenrick against doing this but he and No 10 overruled us.

and here's another example of Jenrick's incompetence. When is a City a Town? www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2020/jan/09/town-of-the-year-push-falls-flat-after-failure-to-realise-site-is-a-cityA new government Town of the Year competition has backfired spectacularly after officials failed to realise that it was being launched in a place that has been a city for 19 years. Civic leaders in Wolverhampton expressed incredulity after the communities secretary Robert Jenrick was described in a government press release as “kicking off his countrywide town tour in Wolverhampton”. As if to compound the error, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government reported Jenrick as having toured Wolverhampton’s “town centre”. It will be seen as particularly embarrassing for Jenrick, who was born and educated in Wolverhampton – which became a city when he was 18 – although he lived in nearby leafy Shropshire. A press release said: “Kicking off his countrywide town tour in Wolverhampton, communities secretary Rt Hon Robert Jenrick MP said: ‘People have put their trust in this new government and we’re making an immediate start to serve local communities and deliver real change, through our £3.6bn Towns Fund.’”

Jenrick is , without a shadow of a doubt an incompetent prick. Every political party has them , those insufferable buffoons who , for some unexplained reason are promoted above their capability . The truth of the matter is that they really couldn’t give a toss . They are where they are because they’ve somehow bamboozled the incompetents in their constituency party who are too embarrassed to admit to their mistake . Not that it would make any difference , the electorate having been taken in and , by excercising their franchise at the ballot box have voted for him to represent them . Or , to put it another way they have voted for the political party they wish to see in power which so happens is represented by some brain dead ****wit , ala Jenrick . In our local constituency we are represented by the honorable member for Rhiyadh , Danny Boy .
Until the Labour Party gets itself sorted I cannot see things changing in the foreseeable future .
Gove for Prime Minister anyone .

Here's one for Jenrick's in-tray.
Many councils are considering axing services as they face a funding shortfall of up to £9.6 billion, the Local Government Association (LGA) has warned.
Cllr James Jamieson, chairman of the LGA, told MPs that additional spending on social care and reduction in commercial income meant they would need a bailout far higher than the original £3.2 billion announced by the Government.
“We need the cast iron guarantee that we will be funded to the amount we are delivering to our communities,” he said.

Yet another excuse our pot hole king can use . Always surprises me , Councils struggling for money as indeed they are , looking to find savings as they must ,encouraged by those right wing fools at Westminster championing austerity and what do they do . Of course they try to find savings by cutting services and reducing staff costs . I wonder why we don’t very often, if at all , see a reduction in Councillors . Must be quite a saving to be had there I would have thought and with a bit of imagination our local populace would still be adequately represented . Will it ever happen ? 😂😂😂

Local Councillors weren't paid until the 1970s.
Expenses for attending meetings were introduced in 1972. Councillors were also paid for travel and meals when on Council business.
In 1995, Councils were allowed to set up their own payment schemes for Councillors' allowances. This allowed Councils to give more adequate remuneration to those Councillors with special responsibilities (like Councillor Davenport).
Blair brought in a law to compel Councils to set up remuneration panels to set pay levels.
In 2003, Councillors were granted membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme.

I am sure up in Stoke if there was money in it they would go along with "being a town". That's probably why they keep the 5 towns image, any grants to Cities going and it's Stoke City. Any grants to towns and it's Longton, Burslem or another very deserving option.

Jenrick was at the lectern today.
No doubt he has made the effort to come in from his Herefordshire 'home'.
Announced Tests of 105,937. This needs to be looked at in greater depth.
Has highlighted domestic abuse. Thought that this was Patel's area of concern, but he's throwing £76 million to the 'vulnerable'. Shame that the funding shortfall of £9.6 billion to local authorities didn't get a mention.

That’s nearly a 15% drop on yesterday’s figure. Does this mean the spotlights off testing so they’ve relaxed the effort? We need to see this figure rising daily

Number of tests actually conducted was 63,667, which is less than the day before (73,191). Needless to say, Jenrick didn't mention that.

Sending out or doing the tests is one thing, but having lab capacity process the swab before the swab and it’s preservative or growing medium degrades is surely another?

Oh what an opportunity missed!
Jenrick was fronting the daily briefing today. The question begging to be asked was 'Do you consider that Professor Neil Ferguson's failure to adhere to the social distancing rules justified his resignation?'
Unfortunately, the journalists were all from local regions today.

Personally I’d prefer the journalists to be asking questions more pressing to local communities (I heard both Shropshire Council and Shrewsbury Town Council mentioned) than trying to get one over the minister, but each to their own.

If only the journalists of the government papers (Pravda for right wing readers) adhered to these wishes for journalists not to “try to get one over” individuals and discuss institutional failings. But of course, on the day the UK death toll overtook Italy’s, the government wanted a “look, over there!” story and its tame house poodle newspapers were only too happy to oblige and slaughter Professor Ferguson on their front pages instead. They’ve been storing that one for just such an occasion.
PR before public health.
Hypocrites.

There was an excellent question in today’s briefing (from a member of the public, it can’t be denied that the public questions are better and more thought provoking than the media ones) that basically asked given the NHS has never become overwhelmed, and the Italian health system did, how come we’ve had significantly more deaths? Jenrick, either deliberately or otherwise, chose to complete miss the point of the question and spent five minutes praising the government actions in ensuring our health system didn’t get overwhelmed. The media briefing has become an exercise in propaganda by a revolving chair of Cabinet ministers, and the people rolled out for the morning interviews are all irrelevant junior ministers (except for GMB, who appear to be on the blacklist again following Morgan’s controversial interviewing technique) so we can only hope the accountability will come down the line. I’m sceptical enough to expect it’ll be the politicians who escape scot free though.

It'll be the government that gets slaughtered if some of the stuff I've been reading today which raises serious concerns about the accuracy of Ferguson's modelling turns out to be correct. For instance, according to Ferguson's modelling, Sweden should be experiencing 40,000 deaths. The total at present is just under 3,000.

I think most people on here whatever their political persuasion want the a Government to succeed as far as handling this crisis is concerned . It is going to impact on all of us one way or another so we want them to get it right . Unfortunately they have and are failing us . They cannot even be straight about testing , changing the criteria to look as if their 100000 tests a day have been met by the deadline they imposed . They have failed our elderly in care homes and have failed our NHS staff the length and breadth of the Country . With a death rate second only to America we are pitied and held up as an example how not to act in the face of such a crisis . We are an island and have failed to secure our borders against the virus to the total bemusement of other countries . I’m afraid Johnson has been found out as many said he would be . His cabinet appointments have been weak , even his Chancellor of The Exchequer after a very promising start is looking shaky , But now is not the time to make changes , the people of this Country have put their faith in Johnson and his party . It’s about time he acted like a statesmen and not a blithering buffoon . To my mind he had good , experienced people in his party but decided to get rid of them . What have we got instead , Incompetents like Hancock , Jenrick and Patel . The clock is ticking toward the biggest crisis this Country has experienced since the Second World War . Johnson needs to show us all he is capable, theres still time , just . He cannot treat the people like he did over Brexit . We want our Country back , safe and well and thriving , that’s what really counts .

Just as well for Jenrick that this news only broke last night after his appearance on the daily briefing, thus enabling him to avoid any questioning on this issue.
'It was dubbed ‘Air Jenrick’ - a Royal Air Force plane left waiting in a Turkish airport for a vital shipment of medical gowns.
The UK’s severe shortage of PPE had descended into farce, with officials scrambling to secure equipment needed to keep frontline NHS workers safe.
The mission ended in disaster.
Every one of the 400,000 gowns brought back from Turkey last month has been impounded in a warehouse outside Heathrow Airport after inspectors found the gear was “useless” and fell short of UK standards, senior sources said.
Ministers were last night facing questions over whether the money paid for the gear will be recovered, and why the public were not told earlier.
The disclosure will be a major embarrassment to the Government after the high-profile Turkey delivery was beset by delays and led to an international row.
The RAF flight to pick up the gowns was nicknamed "Air Jenrick" after the Communities Secretary, Robert Jenrick, promised on April 18 that 84 tonnes of personal protective equipment (PPE) would arrive the next day.
Instead, the flight was delayed when it emerged that the Government had not checked whether the Turkish supplier had applied for an export licence. It eventually arrived on April 22, three days late and carrying only enough gowns to last the NHS for a few hours.
In the following days, further RAF flights brought back around 400,000 gowns.
Senior sources have revealed how the "Air Jenrick" delivery was scrambled together at the last minute as pressure grew on ministers to solve the growing PPE crisis'.

This is unbelievable , no wonder other countries are looking at us and shaking their heads . They are possibly saying “ well , we’re not great at sorting this but at least we are not as bad as the UK “ . At times we really are the pits .

And look how they didn't want to tell us about this. It took a newspaper investigation to flush this out.
