news.sky.com/story/home-office-facing-judicial-review-over-migrant-overcrowding-at-manston-immigration-minister-says-12736728#Robert Jenrick confirmed the government is now going to have to justify, in court, why what it was doing was legal. He told The Take with Sophy Ridge: "I expect Manston will be returned to a well-functioning and legally compliant site very rapidly." I thought that was extraordinary - that sounds awfully like a minister sitting here admitting that what's going on in Manston in Kent isn't legal - as the government is about to face a fight on exactly that point in court. Whether that will play into the legal arguments, we will see. Mr Jenrick also talked about good forecasts. Turn that around, he means bad weather forecasts because over the weekend the lovely weather allowed lots of people to come over in small boats. That led to this extraordinary pressure, layered on the chronic systemic issues - people sleeping on floors, on chairs. He denied the scabies reported at Manston was a consequence of what was going on in there, but clearly there is a big problem with lots to fix. This is all plugging into a difficult political area for the government. But right now, remember Suella Braverman was given legal advice that sources say she ignored about the conditions in Manston - which she denies. For a minister to basically be admitting what was going on inside Manston was illegal feels like quite a problem.

We have an absurd situation where Albanians, who have absolutely no asylum right to be here are arriving, being detained for too long, legally challenging the government and likely being awarded tax payer funded compensation.
There should be a plane sat with the engine running as close to the Kent coastline as possible. Anybody Albanian should be medically checked, given a warm meal and a blanket and stuck straight on the aircraft back to Albania.

When asked why Albanians want to come to the UK, Besnik Cahani laughs and points at his pockets. The 58-year-old knows only too well the benefits of having a relative brave the illegal journey – it is the one his son made seven years ago hiding in a lorry. “He is sending £100 back here and my pocket is getting fat with Albanian lek,” Mr Cahani said, adding with widening eyes that “sometimes at Christmas or New Year, he sends £200”. As he stood on the potholed streets of Kukes, a small city in the mountains in northern Albania more than 1,300 miles from Britain, many of the BMWs and Mercedes that passed carried UK number plates. Imported high-end cars, some of which are stolen or bought and imported using criminal money, have become a “status symbol” across the region. And it is not just cars. Kamez, on the outskirts of the capital Tirana, is one of the country’s fastest-growing areas. Where there were fields 25 years ago, there are now hundreds of grand three-storey houses rarely seen in the country, all built with money that foreign workers have sent home to their families. The lure is now so great that in many of the poorest regions in northern Albania there are no young men left and more are leaving every single day. They are tempted by gangs who promote a fictitious lifestyle and advertise cheap crossing on social media platforms such as TikTok. In response to the influx, the UK Government has announced that it is pumping millions into the Kukes region to improve jobs and infrastructure.

www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/channel-migrant-boats-albania-tories-b2262875.htmlTory immigration minister Robert Jenrick has been accused of verbally “lynching” Albania after he shared a video praised the work of UK officials trying to “get them back to Tirana.” Albanian foreign minister Olta Xhacka said she was shocked by the language used by Mr Jenrick in the Home Office clip about removal of failed asylum seekers and offenders. Saying it was a “shameful” attempt at chasing “miserable votes”, she tweeted: “A verbal lynching of a whole nation in language that sounds like the minister is declaring open season on Albanians.”

A despicable excuse of a human being. Tory MPs being appalled is hilarious - they are all awful.
Just another case of someone seeking headlines by attacking the weakest in our society.
What a complete waste of money and white paint. Still I guess he will sleep better at night knowing he’s achieved his part in making this country even more miserable.

Carrie Johnson has returned to the political frontline. The former Tory PM’s wife is assisting Robert Jenrick in his bid for the Tory leadership. ‘Carrie is helping Rob,’ a Jenrick ally revealed. ‘She’s making calls for him.’

Jenrick comes top with MPs in the 1st round of the Tory Leadership contest. But the Tory membership, always known to back a loser, heavily favours Badenoch. So Jenrick clearly needs Badenoch not to make the final two. This is surely a job for the master in the dark arts of ballot rigging, Gavin Williamson!
Robert Jenrick: 28
Kemi Badenoch: 22
James Cleverly: 21
Tom Tugendhat: 17
Mel Stride: 16
Priti Patel: 14
That means Patel is out of the contest.
The next round of voting will take place on Tuesday next week, when another candidate will be eliminated.

Priti going out probably also means Suella Braverman was right not to stand. As for Williamson, doubt any promise of a front bench job will count for much, there's only 125 Tories and around 100 jobs to fill. You'd have to be a complete noggin not to get one

It now appears that Jenrick is the man to beat, although recent polling shows the membership still prefers Badenoch. There is no sane world in which we should know Robert Jenrick’s name. This is a man with the charisma of faded wallpaper. He succeeds simply because he refuses to challenge hard-right orthodoxy. He ignores the voters the Tories lost to Labour and the Liberal Democrats, and instead fixates on those it lost to Reform.
Naturally, he wants to leave the European Convention of Human Rights (ECHR), set a cap on migration, and reintroduce the Rwanda policy. These are among his least insane ideas. He also warns that “our culture is under attack from extremists that threaten many of our public institutions”. He wants people who say the phrase “Allahu Akbar” in public to be immediately arrested, effectively criminalising an entire religious practice. To call him a buffoon is an insult to buffoons everywhere. He is a wind-up toy of ignorance and mendacity, wrapped in the cheapest packaging available.

I wouldn't use the word 'buffoon' in relation to either Starmer or Reeves. They know exactly what they're doing and it's from a dictatorship playbook.
Let's see what Starmer does with any of his backbenchers who vote against the removal of the winter fuel allowance or even abstain. In particular, let's see what he does with the 7 MPs who already voted against his refusal to scrap the two child benefit cap if they vote against him again. They are already suspended.
