any queen fans out there ? on channel 5 catch up now from last Friday a night at the odeon, from 1975 probably my fav queen live performance along with the 1982 gig from Milton Keynes had both on bootleg for years and listened to them all the time, both obviously that good they were eventually official released Thanks Pilch. I must have seen them on this tour when I saw them live at Bingley Hall, Stafford (the agricultural showground). I remembered bits of it, like Brian May's guitar solo when Freddie went off stage and changed. Good to relive it. I also like the Wembley Live Aid concert where Freddie bossed it. I also saw Pink Floyd at Bingley hall around the same time, complete with the pig flying high from the building. Shame all the big groups confine themselves to places like the NEC now. Went to a number of concerts at the Bingley Hall - Queen, Black Sabbath, Yes and the one you mention Pink Floyd on the Animals tour. If I remember right they did Animals the first half with the whole of 'Wish You Were Here' for the second half with Money for an encore. One abiding memory is Dave Gilmour - superb guitar and cool as ****! No guitar acrobatics or face grimacing - just stood there playing great stuff!

Currently hooked on London Kills on BBC Iplayer.... Originally an afternoon series on BBC 1. Very surprised as easily good enough for evening prime time.

Just finished watching the second series of Sunderland til I die on Netflix. Excellent viewing and great insight into what goes on behind the scenes especially on transfer deadline day. Paying three million for Will Grigg was a huge mistake and great business by Wigan who kept pushing Sunderland for more money right up to the last minute. He must be on a massive salary at Sunderland so very surprised he was keen to come to us and may still do at the end of the season. The owners of Sunderland are hugely entertaining as are the supporters who must be close to the most passionate in the country.

Did anyone else watch Monday’s denouement to much talked about ITV drama ‘Liar’?
Unfortunately after an exceptional first series, it fell into familiar traps that ‘The Stranger’ did:
a) conflating genuine plot twists with red herrings - leaving character actions in earlier episodes as scarcely believable when retrospectively examined after the final episode’s scenes have played out
b) bizarre moral judgements made by senior police officers in the climax, leading to outcomes that aren’t correct by the letter of the law but attempt to give a feeling of satisfaction to the viewer
Given the similarities, no doubt wakemanender will soon be along to award ‘Liar’ his weekly title of the best British drama of all time!

The Stranger didnt fall into any traps. It was a class drama. Liar, series one was watchable but series two felt dragged out and I lost interest after two episodes. No similarities whatsoever. The Stranger is different class. Liar is a run of the mill tv drama. All about opinions at the end of the day but I personally havent seen anything that comes close to The Stranger.

Podcasts - No Such Thing As A Fish - audioboom.com/channel/nosuchthingasafish (both interesting and funny, weekly podcast from the people doing the factual research for QI) Salopcast - soundcloud.com/salopcast (some blokes rambling on about some tiny backwater football club, doubt you're interested ) Price of Football - podtail.com/en/podcast/price-of-football/ (shorter than I'd like, but an interesting weekly take on football's finance by University of Liverpool lecturer and 'football finance expert' Kieran Maguire with comedian and Crystal Palace fan Kevin Day) Historical - The Crown [ Netflix] - not personally a fan of the Royal Family, but really well made TV drama with a great cast. The English Game [ Netflix] - not seen this all yet - a short 6-part period drama - produced by Julian Fellowes - it's slow going so far (but strikes me there's not all that much story to tell) but it's not abysmal. Drama - Jack Ryan [ Prime Video] - based (loosely) on the Tom Clancy books, series 1 was pretty good. I'm struggling to get into series 2 though. Last Tango in Halifax [ iPlayer] - not my usual cup of tea, but not something I'd come across previously and I've really enjoyed working my way through 4 or 5 series with a great cast including Sarah Lancashire, Derek Jacobi and Nicola Walker. The Man in the High Castle [ Prime Video] - alternate reality historical drama (I'll say no more!) Sci-Fi/Fantasy - The Umbrella Academy [ Netflix] - based on the comic book series written by Gerard Way (My Chemical Romance's lead singer). Enjoyable and different enough from the usual 'Marvel' movies. Star Trek: Discovery [ Netflix] - The show that's divided a fanbase. No, it's not Star Trek as you know it. Yes, it's still a bloody decent show. The latter half of series 1 and a brilliant series 2 especially. The Boys [ Prime Video] - nice twist on your usual 'superhero' series. Bit gory at times though! Comedy - Brooklyn 99 [ Netflix] - US comedy series, imagine Scrubs but in a police precinct with less serious plot lines. Sounds lame, but I loved it! Nailed It! [ Netflix] - US baking series, where the contestants can't bake. Nicole Byers hosts (very infectious sense of humor) alongside French chocolatiere Jacques Torres and a guest judge each episode. Honourable mentions also go to: Sunderland 'til I Die [ Netflix] (showing that Stewart Donald is as much of a man-baby as Charlie Methven is a Nice Fella), Legend [ Prime Video] (starring Tom Hardy as both Kray brothers), Inglorious Basterds [ Netflix], Kingsman - The Secret Service [ Netflix] (comic book adaptation starring Taron Egerton), Spooks [ iPlayer] (10 seasons of cracking BBC spy drama), and I guess Star Trek: Picard [ Prime Video] (if you didn't like ST:Discovery, you'll probably like this. I didn't think it was all that great, tbh).

Finished watching The Crown on Monday night. Really enjoyed the whole series , well worth a watch . The cast was brilliant with superb actors popping up all over the place . Didn’t think it was for me to be honest but so glad I decided to give it a go . For someone of my age it was even more entertaining as I remember a great deal of the events .
Next up The Stranger ? as quite a few on here recommend it . Possibly followed by Tiger King ? which comes highly recommended by my daughter - she raves about it .
Happy viewing one and all and keep safe .

I was lucky enough to see Queen at Live Aid and the following year at Wembley. I used to know someone who saw them as a support act very early in their career. Apparently main act was booed and crowd wanted Queen back on stage

It looks like a sequel to the excellent Israeli series, on Netflix, Shtisel, well worth seeing if you haven’t already.

Been watching loads of Tiger King episodes . They are without a doubt bloody mad . Apart from one worker getting her arm torn off by a Liger ( yes , you’ve guessed it ) and another blowing his brains out I suppose it’s just day to day life in America .
Need to watch something a little bit more relaxed like The Green Wing if I can get it .
Any other recommendations .

I didn't see this tour (too young) but had a feeling it was Mott the Hoople when I saw the earlier reference. I'd have liked to have seen Mott in their prime. As for Queen, I'd rather go to the dentist.

Been watching the final series of Homeland and decided I might finally get around to watching the previous ones on Netflix. I didn't see any of the first series and never got to the end of any subsequent ones, through no fault of the show's.
Just finished the first - gripping stuff.
Also re-watching Line Of Duty - last episode of series two to come, with Keeley Hawes wonderfully ambiguous as the set up copper. Few British dramas have been so addictive and another strength of the series is that, unlike too many American dramas, it doesn't ramble and outstay its welcome. That's an under-appreciated strength of licence fee funding - no need to draw things out because the makers have no advertising or subscriptions to sell.
Haven't got very far through my DVDs yet. Watched Catch-22 (the film, not the TV series) at the weekend. I love the novel and the film, very dark tragi-comedy and a wonderful satire, not just on war but on capitalism, sexual relations and the military.
For real cinephiles, the work of the director, Preston Sturges, is worth watching. Only a couple of films seen from the box set as yet but "Sullivan's Travels" is a terrific 1940s satire about Hollywood, quite political too. The Coen Brothers' "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" drew from it. Great chemistry between the two leads, Joel McCrea and Veronica Lake (who looks stunning as a hobo & was 6 months' pregnant, though you'd never know), even though McCrea refused to work with Lake again. However, it's in black and white and was made in 1941, which I know rules it out automatically for some daft, self-denying folk (like my sons)!

Wrote two songs for Mott that reference Shrewsbury- 23A Swan Hill, which is where he lived, and Irene Wild which states " Waiting at the bus stop in Barker Street" and is about a girl from The Priory Girls School
