R rate below 1 across the UK. Great news and testament to the Government’s measures. They’ve certainly had critics for over-interference but I think this shows what a success their foresight has been.

The R rate rise slightly last week and is reported as being between 0.7 and 1. It’s an average and varies from place to place. Our doctor friend who works in Devon says it’s now over 1 there, it’s also over 1 in parts of Greater Manchester which is why school reopening is being delayed.
I’ve seen reports that it’s 0.4 in London which will skew the average for the country.
This reinforces my opinion that decisions should be made locally and centralisation isn’t helpful.

I never understood why we had a Delay phase in the plan outlined by Matt Hancock on the Andrew Marr show at the start of all this? That let the R rate rise exponentially to the point where we had to lockdown in fear for the NHS. Here's what one academic says: (link) Going into lockdown a week earlier 'could have stopped 30,000 deaths in the UK’

Not you that’s for sure, based upon your continual attempts to induce hysteria and chastise the authorities for not entering lockdown quickly enough.

Turkey have managed to use contact tracing very sucessfully istanbul has a population of over 15 million, they have also developed a tracing app both of wich the uk has failed to do. ahvalnews.com/turkey-coronavirus/turkish-healthcare-units-do-detective-work-trace-contacts-covid-19-pandemicTurkey’s strategy of prioritising contact tracing is carried out by some 6,000 healthcare professionals who work around the clock to identify and follow up with people who have had contact with COVID-19-positive patients, Singaporean network Channel News Asia reported. " doctors, in 1,200 units of two to four in Istanbul alone, visit homes in full protective gear and collect samples from suspected persons, and the tested contacts receive their results the next day. Turkey’s death toll “seems relatively low given the number of infections,” CNA said, “even if some observers have questioned the reliability of official figures. According to data released by the Health Ministry on Monday, Turkey has seen a total of 3,841 deaths among 139,771 diagnosed cases, discovered through more than 1.4 million tests since the virus was first seen in the country on March 10. A total of 95,780 people have recovered to date" www.aa.com.tr/en/latest-on-coronavirus-outbreak/turkey-to-use-contact-tracing-app-to-detect-coronavirus/1804425“The app was basically designed to send a notification like 'X days ago, you encountered a person who tested positive for COVID-19' without revealing the patient's identity. Then it provides the user with timely guidance by observing their current symptoms based on their ages and chronic diseases,” Kart said. He added that the app will provide advice based on the degree of proximity to the positive-tested individual by using an artificial intelligence-based algorithm. “We will ask for permission to access the app user’s GPS and bluetooth data to estimate the proximity and duration of an encounter between two users -- one who tested positive for the virus and the other who was at risk of being infected,” he said. For those who do not have smartphones, he said they could also send messages by using their location-based data taken from operator services.

it is hardly a suprise the papers were full of pictuers of peope crowding onto the beach and surrounding areas coimpletely ignoring social distancing

With any luck much good will come out of this pandemic. One clear example being a possible removal of the ludicrous ‘triple lock’ on the State Pension.

We’re only 5 days from the 1st of June with some easing of the lockdown but no sign of the contact tracing app yet.
Are we going to rely on someone asking the infected person where they’ve been and who they’ve been in contact with rather than an app?
Seems we’re going ahead half cocked as we have with PPE, testing, care homes, et al
I hope I’m wrong but why don’t we just do what other countries have done successfully..
Ive done a quick google and can’t find anything confirming if / when the app will be ready.
Northwestman we need you to investigate

just looked at a sky news program on you tube; it looked at the average deaths over the last five years and a graph showing the deaths over the five years with a massive spike as covid-19 started , the offical figure for covid-19 are currently 37,000 then they added excess deaths and the total is 57,000 whilst not all of the extra 20,000 would be covid-19 that figure is above the averge figure for the last five years ,37,000 is an awfull figure and how bad is bad with the uk having the highest deaths from covis-19 in europe , but a total of 57,000 is truley horryfing.
it is in my view a daming condemnation of the most incompetent goverment i can ever remember.

the mail "The construction of the Chinese laboratory at the centre of mounting suspicion over the source of the Covid-19 pandemic was signed off by the EU’s chief Brexit negotiator Michel Barnier – despite warnings by French intelligence services" "The move came despite strong opposition from French diplomatic and security advisers, who argued that the Chinese reputation for poor bio-security could lead to a catastrophic leak. They also warned that Paris could lose control of the project, and even suggested that Beijing could harness the technology to make biowarfare weapons." www.express.co.uk/news/world/1286612/Michel-barnier-wuhan-coronavirus-china-lab-EU-news-france-brexit-sars-beijing-latest-spt"France’s Le Figaro newspaper claimed that the General Directorate for External Security - the country’s leading security institution - had issues with China’s “transparency” over the deal and what the lab was actually producing. A source told the publication: "What you have to understand is that a P4 [high-level bio-security] laboratory is like a nuclear reprocessing plant. “It’s a bacteriological atomic bomb. “The viruses that are tested are extremely dangerous – diving suits, decontamination airlocks etc must be followed to the letter.” Reports say that around 50 French scientists would travel to China to be part of the team running the Wuhan facility. But, it emerged, none ever travelled to be part of the group." www.france24.com/en/20200418-france-says-no-evidence-covid-19-linked-to-wuhan-research-lab-set-up-with-french-help"We would like to make it clear that there is to this day no factual evidence corroborating recent reports in the US press linking the origins of Covid-19 and the work of the P4 laboratory of Wuhan, China," an official at President Emmanuel Macron's office said. The broad scientific consensus holds that SARS-CoV-2, the official name of the coronavirus, originated in bats. In 2004, France signed an agreement with China to establish a research lab on infectious diseases of biosafety level 4, the highest level, in Wuhan, according to a French decree signed by then-foreign minister Michel Barnier."

Here we go!
A civilian pilot sparked an emergency response after landing without permission on a closed RAF airfield in North Wales “because he wanted to go to the beach”.
Ministry of Defence guards and fire crews confronted the pilot after he landed on a runway at RAF Valley on the Island of Anglesey on Monday, the RAF confirmed.
The pilot is understood to have flown from an airfield in Surrey in order to go to the beach, despite it being in breach of Welsh coronavirus lockdown rules, a source told the PA news agency.
Workers were said to be carrying out repairs and maintenance of the airfield at the time of the incident, and no bird control unit was in place.
After security checks were carried out, he took off again. An RAF spokesman said the incident had been reported to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).
