As of Thursday May 14 (or 11.59pm on Wednesday, to be precise), retail, malls, cafes, restaurants, cinemas and other public spaces including playgrounds and gyms can reopen. All will be required to have distancing and hygiene measures in place. Moving around the country will also be permitted, and health services will restart. Bubbles can be broken, but catch-ups with friends or family should be limited to 10, said Ardern. On Monday 18 May, schools and early learning centres will reopen. On the following Thursday, May 21, bars can open, on the condition they stick to requirements for distancing, seating and other measures. “We have left bars till last because they do pose the most risk,” said Ardern, pointing to the lesson of South Korea, which “recently opened up their bars only to close them again after one person created an outbreak of 40 people and caused 1,500 tests”.

If people are that reliant on the government, that they need to be told everything they can and can’t do, then as a country we really should worry..... I personally thought it was clear.... but please don’t let a bit of common sense stop you having a good whinge... So a large number of chiefs of some of the biggest companies saying they didn't think it was clear also lack common sense Also raab has been on the TV saying that it's actually Wednesday these rules come into affect, which wasn't mentioned at all in Boris's speech

Any company with a good health and safety culture would want clarification of what it is the government expect.
Those sort companies that take the health, safety and welfare of their employees seriously.
Seems reasonable to me.
We, of course need to see what comes out of this 50 page document that's been prepared.

Well done to them but they have a fraction of our population and a much smaller population density.

Well spotted! If Paterson's past track record is anything to go by, he might just have had a word with Hancock. "Paterson’s work for Randox has been criticised in the past. Documents obtained by the Guardian showed last year that he had helped to lobby for Randox and another firm he was being paid to advise. He had meetings with a government minister and officials to promote the products of the two firms. The documents raised questions over whether the North Shropshire MP had breached parliamentary rules of conduct. These allow MPs to lobby on behalf of a paying client, but with restrictions. The lobbying must not help to give an exclusive financial benefit to the client and the client must not have initiated the lobbying".

Boris did muddy the waters though. In parliament he said he couldn't announce anything there as he needed to have the very latest statistics so that some of the new rules could be brought in as soon as Monday. Hence the confusion.

Raab seems to have gone off message! Dominic Raab went 'rogue' today during a disastrous media round where he contradicted swathes of Boris Johnson's lockdown speech including the Prime Minister's instruction that millions of people should head back to work from this morning. The Foreign Secretary has created an ocean of confusion after he insisted the government is not urging workers to return until Wednesday - when most were already on their way by road or public transport. This is despite No10's official press release on the PM's TV address saying they should go back today. Mr Raab also said that people can meet two relatives such as parents in parks while maintaining social distancing - when Downing Street was briefing last night that it was only one and Mr Johnson failed to mention family or friends in his speech to the nation at all. He also got in a muddle and suggested that pubs could open as early as June - when the PM said it would be no earlier than July. Downing Street has already raced to repair some of the damage and clarified that Britons shouldn't meet both their parents in the park - insisting it should only be one person. www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8306539/Commuters-crowd-Tubes-Boris-Johnson-urges-Britons-work.html

Disgraceful that the guidance isn't going to be issued until 2 p.m. this afternoon, by which time many will have already returned to work. And other documents on the subject aren't going to be released until Tuesday and Wednesday.

Yes I dont recall any mention of Wednesday apart from the sport, so does that mean downie misunderstood or the message wasn't clear?! And yes raab has said something different again and now the government have had to clarify the rules again so obviously it's the public not understanding, rather than the speech being poor But hey, I shouldn't be negative

Daily mail now reporting that a national security council meeting was cancelled on Thursday and there hasn't been one since February, and questions now being asked on both sides as to why

Was highly impressed with Boris’ speech last night. The sheep of Britain seemingly have abdicated all ability to take self-responsibility and employ common sense and are therefore incandescent at the Government not providing a minute-by-minute planner for their every waking moment.

Anyway...back on topic. To counter some of the appalling Grauniad articles produced over recent weeks, here’s a similarly one-track offering from another organ with comparable credibility as a source. www.thesun.co.uk/news/11592292/trevor-kavanagh-lockdown-terrible-mistake/The main truths shared: - Downing Street is now hostage to a health and safety mafia - Covid-19 has been jumped on by opportunist unions - We are in thrall to a shroud-waving public sector “blob” warning of mass fatalities if the Government makes one false step - We must heed the experts who swallowed “Bonking Professor” Neil Ferguson’s crackpot forecasts of half a million dead without lockdown. - The nation’s long-term physical, mental and economic health is being held to ransom by a bug which has virtually no impact on children, young adults and most people under 50 - Getting people back to work will be hard. The work ethic propelling us out of bed each morning has been sapped by warm spring sunshine, online food and wine and a Treasury- funded cost of living subsidy. - With hindsight, global lockdown is likely to be judged a terrible mistake, forced on a panic-stricken world by China’s authoritarian example.

I know I shouldn’t but when I see you have posted on a thread , any thread , I just can’t help myself , I’ve just got to have a look . It’s like looking at a car crash on the motorway , you know you shouldn’t but ... I’ve just realized that I’ve posted quite a good analogy, comparing your posts to a car crash - how good is that ! Anyway Swan owd lad , you haven’t disappointed this time, it’s up to your usual standard . When will you ever learn ? Oh well , I will continue to point out your errors , lack of empathy and anything else which raises my suspicions that you are “at it once again “ . In the meantime consider my response as akin to a school day . In your case so much to learn , so little time .

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8305735/New-care-home-test-fiasco-Ministers-accused-betraying-nursing-homes-following-failed-promises.htmlMinisters were accused of ‘betraying’ care homes yesterday after failing to meet a promise to provide coronavirus tests for all staff and residents. Officials said on April 15 they were rolling out tests for all care workers who needed them and two weeks later extended this to all staff and residents of English care homes whether or not they had symptoms. But a survey has found fewer than one in four care home staff who fear they have coronavirus have been screened – and many care homes say they can’t get any tests at all. MPs described the situation as ‘madness’ and one care home boss said there was a ‘complete variance between what the Government is saying and what’s happening’. Health Secretary Matt Hancock told the daily Downing Street press conference on April 28: ‘We will be rolling out testing of asymptomatic residents and staff in care homes in England. ‘This means anyone who is working or living in a care home will be able to get access to a test, whether they have symptoms or not.’ But Rachel Beckett, chairman of the Wellburn chain which has 14 care homes across the North East, said last night: ‘These promised tests for all just don’t exist. ‘I’d say to Matt Hancock, don’t stand on a platform and make a promise that you can’t carry out.’

Oh dear, The Sun's editorial team seem to have had their mental health compromised by the lockdown. Just a few short weeks ago our Prime Minister was in Intensive Care with it. People are dieing like flies in care homes. But it will be ok for those under 50 to just spread it around. Remember, it's the younger people who provide the services to the older people. They seem to have forgotten that the government's response was partly concern about deaths from Coronavirus, but partly to avoid a depleted NHS possibly being inundated which would have been highly embarassing to a party that had been in charge of it for the last decade.

Coronavirus outbreaks in care homes are now ‘leaking’ back into the community and driving the epidemic, Government advisers have said.
Experts say widespread cases in care homes are pushing up the UK’s average transmission rate and are providing one of the biggest barriers to lifting the lockdown.
The stark warning highlights how the failure to protect Britain’s care homes from the virus has not only cost the lives of thousands of elderly residents, but has also had devastating consequences for the entire population.
Senior officials have warned that levels of coronavirus infection are likely to be at least five times higher among hospital and care home staff than in the wider population.
They are ‘particularly worried’ about healthcare workers picking up the disease and spreading it among the wider community or to other patients. Ministers have been told they need to ‘get on top’ of this urgently before the lockdown can be lifted.
Daily Mail.
I tried to submit a question on exactly this to the Daily Briefing, but unsurprisingly got nowhere.
