With employment, I doubt you know when you employ if the employee is a smoker, diabetic, etc. or HiV positive, etc. Why should you know if I have had the vaccine? Foreign travel, of course, countries have always expected certain things of you in return for letting you in - again, if you don't like the rules, don't go. I think places like Spain won't push this too much because they want the trade back. Smoker, diabetic is not easily transmissible virus that can be passed easily.

Can’t see any chance of vaccine passports working, it passes what is essentially a public health issue onto businesses which is a) unfair and b) likely to result in significant numbers of businesses not taking part anyway In the summer we all probably saw businesses in hospitality that put on lots of extra safety measures to prevent Covid, and other who frankly didn’t bother, and the same would apply for certificates Hopefully not one the government wastes money on pursuing Last week the Government were saying absolutely not to vaccine passports, the Media and left were up in arms about it, so they have stated now, that as it is such a concern, that they will look at it, so the Media and opposition are now up in arms about how the Government are trying to force it through....

There again, people who haven't been vaccinated haven't got an easily transmissible virus.

Every person has the right to either take or not, the vaccine, this can either be from medical advice (Unfortunate) or by choice, the latter holds no sentiment with me if they get excluded from certain things in life through their own choice. As a private venue, I as the owner, have the absolute right to set the parameters i want to be met before i allow an individual in, and if i think that proving that you have had the vaccine is one of those parameters, then you have no choice but to respect that. Same as when i employ people, the current people i employ, are covered by contract law, if i was wise enough to place in the contract that all recommendations of Public Health England must be minimum standards, then i would have an absolute right to demand people that are medically able to receive a vaccine must do so, then there is no argument, however if i now state that as a prerequisite of employment from here on in, is a requirement for all adults over the age of 18 should have a vaccine, either already, or when offered, then there is no one in the land who can stop me doing that. I do not believe in vaccine passports, but am pragmatic enough to see that in the short term, they will be asked for, over time, as this virus is more widely accepted, and there is less media hype and scaremongering going on, then that in time will subside, however i do think it will be a prerequisite for foreign travel from here on in, as yellow fever and TB jabs are a requirement for certain countries already Agree with the sentiments, would say though that as a private individual, I can decide not to bother trying to enter your private venue if I dont like your terms. So all venues would have to stick to the same rules. Discrimination on the grounds of health or disability..... surely not! This needs to be nipped in the bud, and soon.

I certainly haven't reached the point where I want to know if the plumber has had the vaccine, for me it's are they wearing a mask, keeping their distance, keeping the door open and definately not exhibiting any symptoms.

Neutral?
For a neutral you spend a hell of a lot of time on here defending every decision made and policy put forward by the Tory party and aim attack after attack at anyone and anything left of centre.
Definitely more of a Franco's Spain neutral than a Switzerland neutral.
what a bizarre claim, off the top of my head, i was screaming out for compulsory face masks before they even got mentioned on here, i was very critical of how poor our policing powers were in tackling covidiots, i was first to shout down the ida of £500 to all that have to isolate, i was calling for a 2nd lockdown before you, labour or sage!, a meal with a pint was ridiculous, whereas you have just sat there waiting to see what starmer says and repeat it, way back i stated the only way out of this was , vaccine, herd immunity and test at home kits what is your view on the new roadmap ? or will you wait until we find out which bits didnt work and jump on them ? is it too soon maybe ? perhaps make it march 29th 2024 ? why dont you say now I think I posted yesterday that I agree with most of the roadmap, but have concerns about the schools, etc going back all at once, That seems to me a risky strategy and if it turns out that way I will jump on it. Hopefully I am wrong and everything will be hunky dory and we will all get our lives back in time for the play-off final

That makes perfect sense.
If your best, most productive and most forward thinking employee that had stayed with you and turned down other companies out of loyalty to you, decided for whatever reason that they didn't want to have the vaccine, would you really want to get rid of him/her? That makes less sense to me.
If a party of 40 people book your venue and have every intention of spending hundreds of pounds in your establishment one evening turn up and one of them hasn't had the vaccine are you going to turn the whole lot away? If so will they go down the road to a competitor and give them all their business and the great reviews, while slating you on TripAdvisor?
I understand that there is no easy answer to this thing, but draconian rules aren't going to help anyone. We need to be encouraging people to get the jab, not forcing them.
As for foreign travel, people do need certain jabs and certificates for some countries and many will require Covid ones in the future. That I don't have an issue with.
Hopefully getting the jab will become the norm for the vast majority of the country, like wearing seat-belts, sticking to speed limits or not drinking and driving. There will always be some that push the boundaries and some that ignore them completely, but they are a tiny minority.

common sense would suggest if 40 people are turning up, at least one of them might not have had the vaccine more important to ensure all your staff have then

Unless this idea is slapped down, soon and firmly, my fear is that it will snowball as "a good thing" with horrendous implications for our basic freedoms and normal social interactions; in his inaugural address, FDR famously declared that there was nothing to fear except fear itself, and it seems to me that we are rapidly reaching that point, where the very fear of something possibly occurring, or not occurring, takes precedence over all else. I am the proud owner of a "Prisoner" tee shirt ("I will not be numbered, stamped, filed, briefed or debriefed.... my life is my own") which rather neatly sums up my views. I accept, of course, that the concept of freedom to which we in the West have become accustomed is very much an ephemeral and unmeasurable one, unlike "the number of lives lost or saved" for example, but that does not diminish its importance nor our responsibility for preserving it. The fight for Freedom is never-ending.

If losing my best and most productive member of staff is needed to keep the rest of my staff happy and safe, he's gone!! If a party of 40 people had booked part of a venue, i would furnish the party with terms and conditions, and if they had 1 person who was to put the other 39 into a place of a perceived danger through there own lack of respect for the rest of there party , as well as my staff, i would actively encourage them to use a competitors venue. you can always find fault in every scenario, and some actively will do that just to prove a point, problem makers and problem solvers are the 2 distinct traits in life, with a hell of a lot in the middle who just plod along happy in their lives. As already stated, HMG already slapped this idea down, they were criticized for it, now they are getting as much stick for it as they have said they will look at it!!

it should also be noted that if there are 40 people all who have had the jab there is no guarantee that they are all free of covid, have covid or wont spread covid

I can see and understand your point, but if the vast majority of your staff had the vaccine then the odd one or two not having it shouldn't be an issue. If you had every single member of staff vaccinated you are only around 70% protected after 1 dose and 90%ish protected after 2 doses. One or two members of your staff aren't going to make that big of difference in the grand scheme of things and even if some of your vaccinated staff were to contract the virus, there would be no guarantee that they got it from your un-vaccinated employees, they could have picked it up at home, from the petrol pump when they filled the car up, from the supermarket, anywhere and unless you intend to micro-manage their entire lives you can't guarantee that they won't get it.
I'm honestly not trying to catch you out or find fault with your posts, I am merely trying to put to you different viewpoints and get your opinions on them. I actually agree that there are problem solvers and problem makers out there, but there is also the problem finders that point out potential flaws so that the solvers can solve. I have said many times that I don't have the answers, but I do still have lots of questions. Questions about the virus, about the vaccines, about the vaccine passports, about the roadmap, about what happens after 21st June and about what happens next winter and further ahead.
Pilch is complaining that he was asking questions 12 months ago and people were shouting him down for it. I can't remember to be honest, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't you or I shouting him down. I do remember asking Matron what his take on it was, but I can't honestly remember what his reply was. I do know that I would have probably gone with his judgement over most others on here.

This pandemic is still very raw, give it 12 months, and it will fade into the same significance as Flu, people will have to learn to live with it, and understand that vaccine or not, it will still spread. its the results of it that will change, there will be less hospitalisations, less severe illness, there will also be some that unfortunately die. However the downside of global internet is so many different viewpoints are instantly available, and people want answers now..... when this is not possible.

However the downside of global internet is so many different viewpoints are instantly available, and people want answers now..... when this is not possible. The problem is Paul that some of the questions have been asked for over 12 months now and we still haven't got the answers. Whether we aren't asking the right people or the right people don't have the right answers, I don't know.
Another thing is that in the last 12 months we have buried on average over 300 people a day due to Covid. Even the worst flu season wouldn't see that many deaths, hell even the 2009 swine flu outbreak only took around 400-500,000 lives worldwide.
Anyone who thinks things will go back to 'normal' any time soon is deluding themselves. Yes there will probably be fewer deaths and hospitalisations, but this thing is likely to with us for many years to come. I reckon there will still be a decent proportion of people wearing masks into next summer at least.
One benefit, if you can call it that, of this pandemic is that most people are taking more care of themselves and others now and most people are washing their hands after using the loo. How 4,000 people in the west stand are going to have time to queue up, have a slash, wash their hands for 20 seconds and get back to their seat in time for the 2nd half is going to be interesting. The queue for wash facilities is going to be longer than the queue for the urinals.

as long as there are no supply issues this will be very good news for wales www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-news/wales-coronavirus-health-vaughan-gething-19901990"All eligible adults in Wales will receive a coronavirus vaccine by July 31, health minister Vaughan Gething has announced. Mr Gething was speaking at the latest Welsh Government coronavirus briefing in Cathays Park today (Wednesday, February 24). Follow live updates from that below. "He said that Wales would be able to offer a vaccine to all eligible adults by July 31, provided that the supply promised by the UK government was fulfilled. He also announced a significant increase in testing to identify asymptomatic cases. There will be rapid tests offered to public and private organisations with more than 50 employees - with the priority given to workplaces with a higher exposure to risk. He said: "These plans will involve over 250,000 workers across Wales having access to weekly testing using tests which produce results in under half an hour."

mostly very god news but some issues at telford testing center i thought had been resolved. www.shropshirestar.com/news/health/coronavirus-covid19/2021/02/24/high-vaccine-take-up-in-county-as-nearly-all-over-70s-have-had-first-coronavirus-jab-new-figures-show/"Latest data from NHS England, which runs to February 14, reveals 56,829 people aged over 70 in Shropshire have had their first jab, accounting for 96.9 per cent. In Telford and Wrekin, the uptake has been even higher at 98.1 per cent – it accounts for 21,488 people in the over 70s category. "Telford MP Lucy Allan says patients aged 16 to 64 in an 'at-risk' group (group six) are now being invited for vaccinations at Telford International Centre and the New Bucks Head stadium in Wellington. She says some people had been struggling to get an appointment when calling 119, after being told to wait until their GP has a slot.“It’s deeply frustrating for everyone involved that the vaccination roll-out has seemingly ground to a halt over the last few weeks," she said. "There seems to be bureaucratic hurdles that no one in charge wants to tackle. "It’s quite wrong that group six people in Telford cannot get an appointment and are told to wait despite the fact we have so much spare capacity and invites have been issued.” By the end of last Thursday, more than 148,500 doses of the Covid-19 jab had been put in arms across the county. It places the area ahead of much of the rest of the Midlands in the roll-out."

i mentioned before that Canada that a big problem with vaccine supplys ,it has ordered 152 miliion doses of various vaccines and has reacently ordered 20 million more doses from moderna ,this for a country that has a population of 37 and half million people. but they had a number of supply issues , President biden prioratized hte us for moderna so in the short term ment no supplys to canada, the other vaccine producers have had manufacturing problems. what this means they have only recived 2 million doses and have given nearly 1 million 600,000 vaccines.to give a state breakdown onterio has a population of nearly 15million and it has only been able to give 683,000 this is first and second jab to some elderly groups and health professionls; to give a uk comparison wales has a population of 3million 150,000 they have given 878,500 first vaccines and 60,000 have had both vaccinations. the contrast between them is staggering and let us hope that Canada can secure there orderd vaccines as soon as possible, let us hope our supplies of purchased vaccines continue and if we can get to a point were we have some surplus vaccines we help our canadian friends. www.ctvnews.ca/health/coronavirus/coronavirus-vaccine-tracker-how-many-people-in-canada-have-received-shots-1.5247509

Pilch is complaining that he was asking questions 12 months ago and people were shouting him down for it. I can't remember to be honest, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't you or I shouting him down. I do remember asking Matron what his take on it was, but I can't honestly remember what his reply was. I do know that I would have probably gone with his judgement over most others on here.
neil, if this was 200 years ago, you'd have been telling charles darwin what an idiot he was most of the ideas i had were on this very thread, here a few of my favourite squabbles here i suggested a strict lockdown oct 7th blueandamber.proboards.com/thread/100116/cornoavirus-intensifys-axing-gatherings-consider?page=130then on the thread about pm qs the question I would ask is this if face masks are ideal for stopping the spreading of the virus, why are we not putting all our resources into mass producing them and making them compulsory for at least 14 days simples when i kept going on about facemasks you always appeared to say its the same ones screaming paranoia again and you were not on your own Do face-masks protect the wearer, or anyone else, against paranoia, however it is caused? Absolutely no protection from that at all. Could do with a vaccine for paranoia to be found even faster than a vaccine for Covid. I've said all along that I think this virus is airborne much more than we realise, & the gov wont say this as they don't want panic , also not so sure its the heat associated with the warmer weather that helps lower the stats rather than the fact the wind/breeze is generally not so strong, nip outside in your back garden later today, and smell a BBQ from 6 gardens away why are hundreds still dying, ;I think complacency for a lot, they got too close to someone, ;closer than they would have dared to in April Could you perhaps mention your evidence into this interesting scientific theory? I’m genuinely interested in two comments “The virus is airborne more than we realise” and “ not so sure its the heat associated with the warmer weather that helps lower the stats rather than the fact the wind/breeze is generally not so strong” If you could back these up with a little bit of evidence that would be lovely. Or is it perhaps just b******s? oh and how silly i was going on about the likes of bournemouth and a 2nd wave coming You stopped short yourself Pich: "To understand whether popular tourist areas have seen a spike recently, we took the 20 most popular holiday spots (relative to their population) in England,;as recorded by VisitBritain: Weekly coronavirus rates have dropped or stayed the same in 13 of these areas" So based on that data alone two thirds of the places have not seen a rise. Despite predictions/claims of a second wave caused by busy beaches, protests, celebrations and pub reopenings, there has been so significant spike. Of course it would be interesting to see had those events not happened then would the numbers have dropped There’s no point arguing with Pilch, he’s obviously a leading public health expert and statistician. & Why let the facts get in the way of a good story,is his mantra.

You've obviously had a decent look through the thread and come up with quotes from some other posters, but you are accusing me, yet don't supply any evidence that I was 'screaming paranoia'. I can't say with any certainty without going back through all my posts or this entire thread, that I wasn't one of those people calling you paranoid, but if I was surely you would have a few choice quotes of mine to show everyone.
ETA Just had a quick run through May, July and October, as they are the months that the posts you have quoted are from, and I saw very few posts from myself and most of the ones I did find were taking aim at the government handling or lack thereof. Perhaps I missed the ones where I screamed about your paranoia and you could use your far superior technical skills to point them out to me. Obviously when you post them you will have a full and unreserved apology from me.

I do remember asking Matron what his take on it was, My take was that this was all a big storm in a tea cup, being massively overhyped by the media.

Anyone who thinks things will go back to 'normal' any time soon is deluding themselves. Yes there will probably be fewer deaths and hospitalisations, but this thing is likely to with us for many years to come. I reckon there will still be a decent proportion of people wearing masks into next summer at least.
It's an interesting point, people have been saying for the last 12 months that they think 'normal' is a long way, away and even after the vaccine, believe that life will be very different. However when Boris says on 21st June 'all legal limits on social contact could be removed' then there will undoubtedly be people who see that as going back to normal. I saw yesterday that Reading/Leeds festival is planning to go ahead in August, I'm due to be doing the Greath North Run which has been moved to September and they are confident it will go ahead. So when you think of events like that taking place in 6 months then you think maybe normality isn't too far away I agree that it certainly won't go away but I'm guessing that because of the vaccines then it will be something we live with, like the flu. There will of course be people who choose to wear masks and still keep to social distancing but it will be interesting to see how many, my personal view is it will be a minority and we will not see a big culture shift

what a bizarre claim, off the top of my head, i was screaming out for compulsory face masks before they even got mentioned on here, i was very critical of how poor our policing powers were in tackling covidiots, i was first to shout down the ida of £500 to all that have to isolate, i was calling for a 2nd lockdown before you, labour or sage!, a meal with a pint was ridiculous, whereas you have just sat there waiting to see what starmer says and repeat it, way back i stated the only way out of this was , vaccine, herd immunity and test at home kits what is your view on the new roadmap ? or will you wait until we find out which bits didnt work and jump on them ? is it too soon maybe ? perhaps make it march 29th 2024 ? why dont you say now I think I posted yesterday that I agree with most of the roadmap, but have concerns about the schools, etc going back all at once, That seems to me a risky strategy and if it turns out that way I will jump on it. Hopefully I am wrong and everything will be hunky dory and we will all get our lives back in time for the play-off final i have the same concerns about schools ,the numbers are way to high , when the numbers are down and we start vaccinting the under 50's .it needs to be very slowly phased in.also why test children at school get the parents to do it at home and text confirmation to school admin.

as germany may go into another lockdown before the present one ends as concerns are raised about new varient .with a threshold of 35 new cases per 100,000 over seven days , i doubt there are many places in the uk htat could meet this requirment. www.dailymail.co.uk/home/index.html" Ms Merkel and state premiers in Germany, Europe's most populous country and largest economy, have agreed to extend restrictions to curb the spread of the coronavirus until March 7. Hair salons will be allowed to reopen from March 1, but the threshold for a gradual reopening of the rest of the economy targets an infection rate of no more than 35 new cases per 100,000 people over seven day"
