Those 2 are at least replaceable (Dawson, Plunkett, Curran). Lol Liam Dawson Dawson would only be an option if it's a real turning wicket. Otherwise the 2 seamers could come in. Of far more concern is to have Vince anywhere near the side.

Those 2 are at least replaceable (Dawson, Plunkett, Curran). Archer has been one of the standout bowlers in the tournament so far, second only to Starc in the wickets table at the moment, and he would be very difficult to replace in terms of what he brings to the side. Yes there are pace bowlers in the squad in Plunkett and Curran but I'm not sure they would have the same effect.

If England and India are playing on the same pitch being used today then two spinners would definitely be an asset. Me and some of my mates heard it was a fresh pitch. But still, the nature of some of the covers they use at Edgbaston will not produce a belter for batting. If they are on the same pitch as today, England may as well feign injuries to the likes of Vince and Plunkett but the next bowlers in line are Dom Bess and Mason Crane so id also be inclined to ask Ashley Giles who is looking very fat nowadays to rock up and you’d get the same quality.

Don't rule out Pakistan just yet, it could be 1992 all over again. A massive game for them against New Zealand on Wednesday now with games against Afghanistan and Bangladesh to follow. An impressive performance from Pakistan today with bat and ball and a high class knock from Babar Azam in particular. Pakistan should beat Afghanistan next up setting up a potentially exciting last game v Bangladesh.

Quite cliche to say Pakistan will probably go and lose to the Afghans. They’ve had a tough schedule with a tough break having their game against the Sri Lankan’s rained off.
I really don’t know which way this could go. I could see England beating New Zealand maybe, but against India and NZ on tough pitches in pressure situations? It England go through to the semis which I still think they will it’ll be because Pakistan bottle this opportunity or they play totally out of character.
Either way, Paul Farbrace is an absolutely knob head of the highest order.

Surely Henry Nichols is too good a player to leave out? I’m not sure Tom Latham is batting in the right place too. Tbh they are managing their resources brilliantly for a country with so few but they feel a bowler and a batter short sometimes.

Unfortunately, Latham dropping Babar off Santner when he was on 38 was probably the turning point of the match. Fine margins.

Sharma is by some way the best opening battter in ODI cricket. As to who would partner him there are a number of candidates, Roy, Bairstow, Warner, Guptill and de Kock to name some of them. On current form Shakib would have to be in the XI also. Shakib has certainly been one of the stars of the world cup so far.

Tom Latham is having a terrible time of it in this world cup. 27 runs in 6 innings...ouch He should be opening with Nichols imo! Got to be better than what they have now, Guptill is done and Munro is awful. Neesham and CdG are a fine 6 and 7, would just have to find a 5. My NZ knowledge isn’t too great so I don’t know too many that would fill the void. I think NZ will end up like Aus, in that they’ll be forced to pick their best side despite what they initially wanted. Sodhi should play instead of Henry on these wickets and Nichols who by the way is one of the best test batters around would be perfect. Their top 4 would be so strong with handy power hitting down the order! All sides seem to have meh middle orders. England’s of Stokes, Buttler and Ali is really inconsistent and clearly relies on no pressure and roads to bat on. India’s would be good if they had the balls to drop Dhoni, Australia’s would be immense if someone sent out a search party for Faulkner and played M.Marsh who has a good LO record!

That was a controversial decision on review against Rohit Sharma.
I'm really not sure how Michael Gough could say there was conclusive evidence to overturn the on field decision. Lots of doubt there for me and the benefit of the doubt should go to the batter.

Lots of doubt there for me and the benefit of the doubt should go to the batter. That’s not the rule nowadays - however, it is to go with the umpire which makes sense. Thing is, he was given not out, right? Didn’t look good to me, then again I wanted to see Rohit pound the WI attack into the dirt! India made a good score, their middle order people say has been shakey but has twice got them to a good score on tough wickets. This may be one of the more difficult pitches to bad on. There was seam early on, it is spinning and it isn’t coming onto the bat. Very dry which means there is the potential for reverse and the sort of form Shami is in I wouldn’t go against him cleaning up again late on.

Kinda easy in the end, India’s spinners look like they have another gear. Reckon Bhuvi would get into any other side in the WC but not sure he will oust Shami and Bumrah.

Hopefully South Africa will do England a favour today. Yeah - never really saw Sri Lanka as contenders though. All 3 remaining games I would expect them to lose. Not sure why Malinga was bigged up so much after he ran through England. The angle was never the issue, the issue with him was always the angle, plus reverse he’d get at the back end and then he would bowl at 150kph. Nowadays he bowls at 130kph and reverse is so rare. He used to go for a few in the power play. Happy weekend everybody, enjoy the heatwave. Reckon Aus will destroy NZ tomorrow, Afghans will surprise Pakistan and England will hammer India!

I really think England can beat India and NZ if they get their act together. Which would mean an automatic last four place.
I think the Aussies will be too strong for NZ, which could be squeaky bum time for the Kiwis.
So then - if my maths are correct - its a case of Bangladesh beating both India & Pakistan and improving their run rate, or Pakistan beating Afghanistan and Bangladesh and doing likewise, to then challenge the Kiwis run rate.
It's going to be an exciting week ahead...... But then again I do live in a fantasy world !!

Pakistan win by 3 wickets in the last over.
The Afghan captain Gulbadin throws the game away by bringing himself on in the 46th over when the spinners were on top and could have bowled the rest of the overs. He went for 18. Bowled the last over too with 2 full tosses in it.
Imad Wasim is the Man of the Match. "When I went in, Rashid Khan was bowling brilliantly. I couldn't pick him to be honest. But we knew that if we play 50 overs, we'll win. Gulbadin was the only bowler to be targeted, the wicket was turning square. If you take risks against them you can lose your wicket".
So why bowl himself? Mujeeb Ur Rahman 10 1 34 2 Hamid Hassan 2 0 13 0 Gulbadin Naib 9.4 0 73 0 Mohammad Nabi 10 0 23 2 Rashid Khan 10 0 50 1 Samiullah Shinwari 8 0 32 0

Only way we can get away with winning only 1 of our last 2 fixtures is if Bangladesh lose to India then beat Pakistan.
Otherwise we have to win both.
Unfortunately, the Bangladesh v Pakistan game is being played after we've played our last 2 games. A no result on Friday July 5th could give both of these teams 10 points even if Bangladesh have beaten India. Our superior run rate would then squeeze us through.
The long shot is for us to win our last 2 games. The loss to Sri Lanka where we couldn't manage 6 an over for the last 10 overs with wickets in hand was the result that holed us below the waterline. That brainless shot by Moeen and the failure of the tail to stay with Stokes was very poor.

Probably through naivety as much as anything else which is a real shame as a big win today would have done them the world of good going forward for their development. Pakistan were close to gone at the end of the 45th over and probably would have lost more wickets trying to keep up with the increasing rate required had Afghanistan continued with the spinners for the next few overs. England are really up against it now, as you have said the permutations aren't good. The good news is it sounds like Roy has a decent chance of playing tomorrow, not so sure about Archer, but it's difficult to see us beating India the way things have gone in the last couple of games and the form India are in.

Pakistan put a very good total on the board, England made a decent effort of chasing it but couldn't quite get there. Losing to Australia at Lords again wasn't a big surprise given the conditions, Australia's attack and England's record at Lords. The Sri Lanka defeat was a shocker and England should have got home comfortably, if we don't make the semi-finals that is the game we'll look back on with frustration and regret.

If Starc keeps up this form then England are gonna have a long summer in the Ashes. He was constantly 150kph+ today, hitting 96 and looking really really intimidating.
He is the best ODI bowler ever, he definitely opens with the new ball in an all time XI.

Imad Wasim shouldn't have been at the crease. He was caught behind early in his innings but it wasn't given and Afghanistan hadn't a review left.
Why do the teams only have 1 review here, whereas it's 2 in Test Matches?
