It’s funny - before Archer came along and Wood found the form he’s never had I would have had Jimmy in the ODI side.

No swing, no seam, no reverse swing, tiny boundaries. Why would you be a bowler? Yeah, James Anderson has been far happier demolishing County batting line ups for Lancashire. His County won't have seen as much of him for years. He's at it again at Derby! Far far too good for division 2 cricket! Before this current game he had already taken 24 wickets in the championship at a cost of 8.88 per wicket!

Just had a weather report on TMS and Shropshire got a mention! Rain in Shropshire is heading east towards Birmingham so will likely get some rain this morning then brightening up. Currently overcast but outfield still wet.
Start delayed, Inspection at 11am
12 start, reduced 49 overs per side

49 overs per side. That is so damn stupid! Beyond anything. The side batting first would get their 50 overs in or fewer. The side batting second would in most likelihood be bowled out before over 48 or chase it down before that too. I love cricket but it really shoots itself sometimes!

New Zealand win the toss and, unsurprisingly, have chosen to field. The South African batting has been quite fragile whilst the New Zealand pace attack has done quite well. For the sake of a good game for the neutral it might have been better had South Africa won the toss.

Enjoyed the joke on TMS that South Africa will appreciate a reduction to 49 overs as they always do badly in the last over. "But there will still be a last over though" says sensible commentator.

What a delight to be able to watch a game in relevant tranquility, with no vuvuzelas, chanting or flag waving.
However, that damned pop music is still regrettably being played when anything of significance happens. Get rid of that and we'd be away!
At the moment, we are getting polite clapping for a good shot or a good piece of bowling. As it should be.

The ECB like conducting surveys. They did one for The Hundred, found that most existing cricket fans didn't want it, but ignored the results anyway on the basis that they were looking to develop an interest from those who aren't at present fans. So no point whatsoever in conducting the survey in the first place.
Nevertheless, it would be good if they could conduct another survey asking whether fans wish to continue with mindless bits of pop music being churned out. I very much question whether it adds anything whatsoever to the overall experience.
At the moment, I can only escape such music if I watch a County Championship game.

Love NZ’s bowling attack!
Just curious, who would you guys like to see bowl in the Ashes?
I’d love to see an attack Stokes, Curran, Woakes, Mo and Jimmy. I know they’ll go with Anderson, Broad and probably Wood but if it’s gonna swing around then Curran and Woakes are gonna be immense with bat and ball.

Lets see what happens when the Eng vs Aus play next week but I'd have Archer in the squad based on what he's done so far in this WC. His pace is amazing and effortless.

As you might anticipate, I agree wholeheartedly with that gentleman's comments! And also one of the replies to it saying that it also applies to T20 drunks. I've never attended a T20 game.

About par for the pitch - was a bit two paced but came on a fair bit at the end. Reckon Nz will hobble to the total. Not as bad as it could have been though - this SA side needs such a face lift.

SA were really good except Phehlukwayo. Such an underwhelming cricketer imo. Classy knock by Williamson despite embodying Joe Root’s spirit by needing multiple lives to get there but still. Love everything about CdG - clearly a man of little talent playing at 150% his capacity.

Probably the knock of the tournament so far! Aus were fantastic in all assets except a few weird fielding moments - though it was wet! I think this side with Lyon and Hazlewood would be favourites to win considering the form of Warner and Finch. Even Maxwell starting to find middle of the bat. I think they’ll lose to England with NCL and Zampa being clobbered - which will prompt them to call in Lyon and Richardson to the side and they’ll get to the final.
