I don’t often agree with Pilch on this forum so unfamiliar territory for me but ...I agree with Pilch! I was pretty embarrassed by what I heard from the stands today. We’re still in the s**t and the only way we are going to get out of it is by showing character and staying together. On and off the pitch. Post mortems can wait until it’s over. We’ll deal with whatever we need to deal with then. Normally I'd agree with you, however that line up was asking for trouble. You can not leave the two top scorers and player of the season on the bench by choice and expect to get a result. Fans voicing their opinion today may make Ricketts more inclined to play his best players. Either that or he will drop Whalley and Campbell for Payne and beckles next Saturday...

Beckles scores Town win Er, think you missed a bit. A winner is always going to be celebrated more wildly than an equaliser. Do you worry about how Steve Arnold might feel if he were to read your regular critcisms of him, btw? Beckles got no acknowledgement when he came on as sub Docherty got a heros reception
I think there's a difference. Beckles came on for an injured player who we were clapping off. When Arnold went off injured against Wimble bubble, no Juan cheered Mitchell when he came on.

it's really good seeing someone who comes on this message board slagging off our keeper most weeks telling off our fans for not being supportive of the manager I give Arnold my full support during the game, applauded the great save first half Then you just publically criticise the guy every week on a popular club forum. Physician, heal thyself and all that.

Wouldn’t have been my selection either but then I’ve seen enough failures this season from teams I would also have chosen to remind me it’s not that simple. If we had 28 games to play I’d question the direction we were taking. With 8 to go all that matters now is that we won.

I dont know

To be fair Beckles conceded the free kick they scored off ok fair enough good job no one applauded him when he came on
I should also advise you, PILCH, but in our upcoming trip up north to watch the mighty Cowdenbeath, a Shrewsbury shirt is going to be presented to the nice, kind, gentle, Cowden manager, Gary Bollan, who doesn't seem to have much of a sense of humour, due to the fact he's been sent off more times than his players, (and that takes some doing). I was thinking of nominating you to hand over the shirt to him .........please contact me if you're interested in this predisgested honour.
P.S. Please bring gum shield and head guard.

Nice video someone has posted on Facebook of the players running over to Block 19 to celebrate with our most vocal fans, so can't be too many hard feelings.

I think the relative lack of enthusiasm evidenced by the introduction of Beckles might have had something to do with the fact that overall he's played poorly all season and that some of us thought that Sadler might have been the better option.
Although Beckles went on to score, it was his clumsy foul that led to the free kick from which Wycombe scored.

It’s pretty simple to me. Ditch the rotation, play your best eleven players. However, after not doing that yesterday to let notoriously fickle fans dictate your substitutions is the road to failure. I spent some time at Cheltenham races last week, what a difference in atmosphere, quality etc. Annual membership for that sadly is looking a viable option for next year instead of STFC, I have never been so disappointed at a game as I was yesterday.

Just over 6k at the GM today. Not bad that given we are not exactly pulling up trees 😊 That’s probably just the counted number of tickets sold rather than the number of people in the ground itself, quite a few season ticket holders who sit around me weren’t present yesterday.

The worrying thing for me is that SR's selection of the team for the Rochdale game was pretty much what most on here would have selected, yet we still produced a dire performance.
The current malaise seems to be throughout most of the squad.

I feel a bit sorry for Arnold. OK in all honesty he is not a top class Div 1 keeper, but there have been a few opposition keepers down the Meadow this season who are about the same level as he is. Considering he is in the limelight and involved for most of the game because of our inept defending he is obviously going to make more errors than if he was in a team that was attacking for 65% of the game. He has made mistakes that a good keeper would probably have not made, but let's be honest he has made some cracking saves both home and away to keep us in the game. I think a top Championship or even a Premier League keeper wouldn't save everything if stuck behind our defence. Also, whilst I am procrastinating....... It's a very poor division team-wise this season, and lets face it although we are dire at times how many of the visiting teams have actually played us off the park. Accrington, before they went down to ten men. Donny, but second half only. Otherwise can't think of too many more who have pulverized us !! As the league table insinuates... there are a dozen very poor sides in Div1 this season and we are one of them, so it's going to be a dogfight until the last game. It Wouldn't surprise me if we beat Pompey next w/e. COYB COYS

The current malaise seems to be throughout most of the squad. You are correct. No one came away from Rochdale saying what a great game Docherty had or how he drove us forward we can’t get Grant, Docherty, Laurent and Norburn all in unless we go back to the diamond. But leave any one of them out and lose (or even win !) and the experts will tell you that he is the one that should have played

The team selection was an issue, because its a long running theme this season, not just this game hence the attitude via the chanting early on in the game. The end result supports their earlier concerns.
Its not being fickle or cheap, its more like we have been here before, & the fans know we have the players, enough to keep us safe, & maybe with a decent transfer window in summer, something to build. 6k attendance is really decent, and shows the people of Shrewsbury & Shropshire really support the club.

my heart sank when i heard the team Ricketts had selected.it was the main topic of conversation prior to the game for many of the fans around me.
under Coyne town players responded they knew what they were doing and seemed to be enjoying there football. i dont know if this is right but it seems the players are as confused as the fans.
Askey lost the support of many fans and Rickeets bizarre team selection may have alienated a number of fans.

Our fans IMO are in the main supportive and patient but that was betrayed way back in 2003 when Ratcliffe us down.
There was no demonstration whatsoever until it was too late (end of Carlisle game) and I think that the fans will act now before it becomes too late to show their displeasure.
I'm glad the happy clappy as been abandoned with because there was too much in 2003 and look where it got us.

Beckles joined the game at nil nil and a mind numbingly poor nil nil at that. It was a crap performance and a crap game. For all the will in the world, the vast majority of those in the stadium didn't expect the game to change with the introduction of Beckles. And it didn't. We went one down. Docherty came on when we were in trouble, hadn't looked as though we were going to score all game, we were one nil down, chasing the game and we needed a goal. Something had to change otherwise we weren't going to score and we weren't going to get anything out of the game. Those within the stadium hope and expect that Docherty can come in and give us something that no one else in the squad can give us. Docherty then went on to set up the first goal. That's the difference. I don't think anyone is surprised to the different reaction to each change...

The current malaise seems to be throughout most of the squad. Exactly. We’re not much good, just like every other team in the bottom half. Docherty would certainly have started for me and he was a magic bullet yesterday but he might not have been if he’d played 90 minutes. And the conditions were never going to help either team impress. However it happens, winning is all that matters now. We won yesterday despite most of us not agreeing with the team selection and set up. I’ll take that every time.

Docherty has scored 8 goals, has 9 assists. Beckles has one goal (and as it happens, that was set up by Docherty). Just not sure what you are getting at with this to be honest. The difference in reaction is both expected and understandable...

The confusing thing for me is that we were doing so well under Coyne and Ramsey. They played their best team and won more than they lost. A manager is brought in with nothing really to change. If its not broken don't fix it. SR however has decided to change to a rotation system which is failing. The answer for me would be to accept this system is failing and return to picking the strongest team. Im backing the manager until the end of the season but he isn't making it easy with his reluctance to see that he is wrong. Its not the premiership. PLAY YOUR BEST TEAM.

I doubt he'll listen to you, but even if he did, the damage has already been done. Fejiri, Docherty, Haynes and now Grant have all been benched in order to 'freshen up' the squad. AAH and Payne have also been rotated, though in reality that is merely a testament to wasted effort. Mitchell and Charles Cook need to check the fixture list to ascertain which of them is on the bench, irrespective of any form shown in training. Gilliead seems to have disappeared from the radar, whilst Smith has never really been on it in the 1st place. However well Campbell may be playing, he's usually hooked off after an hour. Throw in the fact that both Whalley and Golbourne have been asked to perform in a wing back role in which they are either wasted (Whalley) or can't play (Golbourne) and I can't see there are likely to be too many happy bunnies in the squad as to the way in which things are being organised by SR.
