Just read this thread back and thought back to the first game of the season when Askey dropped Sadler because he thought a Waterfall / Sadler partnership was too slow.
Maybe he was on to something.
Many of us complained (me included) at the dropping of Sadler for a Division 2 centre back.
It is a sliding doors moment, but I wonder what would have happened if he had stuck to his instinct and given Waterfall and Beckles 15 games to bed in.

Or why did Askey replace our pacey centre half Toto with a slow centre half to go alongside our already slow centre half. No homework done by Askey there. Omar seems to have imploded this season after coming good last one. He’s not much quicker than what we’ve already got and not really the answer.

He’s been chopped and changed in positions this season after doing such an admiral job in a ln unnatural position last year. 3 centers halves for me please - Beckles, Williams and Sadler. We need Sadler’s experience to organize and lead. Beckles and Williams will make up for any lack of pace / height. What’s important now is sticking with the selection and formation. Focus has to be on not conceding for the next few games and the formation and team should reflect that. I have horrible memories of chopping and changing under Ratcliffe - especially with the centre backs and a crazy decision to play a young midfielder (Karl Murray) in that position.

Very harsh on Askey too since he was left with one week to replace Toto. By the time god had spoken he must have thought the two that went would have been with us until at least January.
The damage done to us this season by Ipswich and our ex manager should never be under estimated.

The damage done to us this season by Ipswich and our ex manager should never be under estimated. Or Askey and the Club managed it badly. It wouldn't have taken a rocket scientist to work out that Nsiala and Nolan would be off. Indeed, Askey's first signings were a centre back and midfielder - Kennedy and Loft. Loft wasn't a replacement for Nolan but being his first signings you'd have expected them to have been given a run in the side. Both started just one league game each. They were wasteful signings that still make no sense to me. Then Askey signed Waterfall almost immediately after Toto went so he must have identified his target knowing that Toto might go. Waterfall and Toto don't even begin to compare. Askey should have taken his time to identify a better player - probably a loan player. Sure, we got stuffed in May but a decent manager that knew leagues 1 and 2 would have made a better fist of it, not panicked and used his contacts to find better quality replacements. That's their job.

If people at the club had been more accommodating then our ex manager might have been able to return to undo the 'damage'.

I never saw why Askey didn't just replace Toto with Beckles. Kennedy was also one of his first signings of the summer as well. Plus Haynes also came in early to free up Beckles of Left Back.
There must be plenty of quick centre backs around.
I'm a believer that its Waterfall that should be dropped and not Sadler. Three goals gone in without Sadler should surely help the case.
But please go back to four at the back and with wingers in the side.

two clean sheets in eleven league games can we stay up with such an error prone defence ?

No chance, we gotta keep the back door shut if we want to give ourselves a chance of staying up...!! 🤷🏻♂️

We are woeful at the back. It's a lot to ask of Williams to be the one that comes in and shores it all up. We are so easily cut open at the moment it's terrifying. Waterfall is a great asset when going forward for free kicks and corners but he is far too slow where it matters. Is Williams the answer?
