[ What is the second lesson?y Tis better to be meek and mild Shrewsbury Town than to lie with the money lenders and spend beyond your means. For the season we are about to receive may JA make us truly thankful.

We have to keep our sense of humour mate, or the prophets of doom would drive us over the cliff edge. Like the old joke of the little schoolboy who spelt weather "wether". Was told by teacher that was the worst spell of weather they had ,had in a long time.

Nothing more boring than supporters making instant judgements on new signings. I've been stunned by some of our fans on here in the last few weeks. It's like last season taught them nothing and we were expected to finish in the top six. Therein lies the problem mate - expectation. Last year everyone would have been happy to finish out of the bottom six, and many were convinced we would go down because the Bookies said so. Unfortunately, the same doom mongers are now thinking that top six is where we should be, even though our manager and some of our better players have departed. This overlooks the fact that for a large part of last season we were the surprise package, even to ourselves and having had a good start, momentum, belief and confidence drove us forward. What should not be overlooked though is our form over the final couple of months, which was in the mid-table bracket. This was down to a collection of circumstances - 1. Fatigue caused by playing more games than any other team in the top four Divisions. This had the effect of not allowing us to play our “in their face”, closing down game so effectively. 2. Injuries and suspensions taking their toll on our small squad. 3. Other teams wising up to our system and coming up with ways to nullify it. 4. This one is just my personal opinion - our manager had had his head turned and lost a degree of focus. In view of the above, I think top six should not be a given, but is something we should be aiming for, once we have achieved the magical 50 point target.

A very fair assessment in my view. Not sure about 4 but can offer no better explanation.

The bookies odds for us next season should be interesting. I think at the moment the only flutter I would have is a top half finish if the odds are reasonable. Last season I had my first bets ever and based them all on our pre season results when we beat a number of championship teams. I got carried away with the results in those games and my confidence in PH. Top half finish, play off position and Checkatrade winners all won me money although I did have to cash in at the semi final stage of the checkatrade as my nerve went. Cant see the odds being very good this time round but will again base anything on how things go preseason. Don't want to be giving the bookies any of last seasons money back.

Belive he was given both goals in that game (vs Wycombe) Quite right plus two assists one for each side I reckon El H....... I am just trying to compute the benefits of the transfer dealing with Coventry they get Junior Brown a real bundle of energy and a gem of a player first choice left back and a real fans favourite. We get Ryan Haynes a young lad who has his detractors amongst the Coventry faithful and we obviously need to shape and develop him, as their fans point out he was a second or third choice left back from what was until May a league 2 side. It's a good job the Double Johns have confidence in their coaching ability to get the best out of players and spotting a rough diamond and we must support them in their beliefs. Oh I am sure it probably helps Coventry pay the fee for Brown too, that's lucky too everyone wins. The problem lies with Shrewsbury letting contracts run down so leave on a free ... What we offered JB was too little too late deal should have been done last June

If you offer contracts too early, players can slip into the comfort zone. The other consideration is that, as with Abu, the early option of an improved extension is not necessarily in the player’s ( or more likely his agent’s) interests. They all like to see the best offer is - some like Junior want a financially better deal, whereas others who maybe fringe players, are more interested in getting regular games. I suspect JB will not be the player he was before his injury, which would mean we have paid him a bigger wage to sit on the bench.
