Interesting comment from Haynes within his interview where he says he hasn’t yet spoken to manager Askey 🤔 Another Askey moment!! Brilliant. Why the hell would you not speak to the lad before he joined!!?? Begining to ask serious questions of our Mr Askey Does he mean in person though? The guy is on holiday!

Begining to ask serious questions of our Mr Askey Askey and Filan have done their homework on the player and checked his background and character, and decided they would like to bring him in. The manager is away on a pre-arranged holiday and will have left Brian to negotiate and complete the signing. BC knows what the club are looking for, as he was instrumental in bringing in the type of manager that would fit our profile.

Give the guy a break. He says in his interviews he's been busy looking at new signings. Just because he hasnt been telling all and sundry what he's been doing he gets slated for it. In an earlier interview with BC it was clear that they were trying not to broadcast intentions as this would attract other clubs to put bids in. So for once be patient and wait and see. If you don't like the end result you can always go and support Villa with their £5m debt and hardly any players. We have what we have so support them in the new season ahead Oh and welcome Ryan to stfc. Look forward to seeing you develop and play good games for us

I saw every game he played, most of them didn't. He is not a left back as he will tell you himself. There is no harm in wanting to improve every position. Opinions differ in football, but in mine, he was targeted at Blackburn, Rochdae, Wembley twice and was stupidly sent off at Bradford. He got away with wrestling on corners several times before getting found out against Rotherham. Wrestling at corners has nothing to do with whether he plays left back or centre half though.

Yes he had some poor games, he has some weaknesses and he made some mistakes, as did other members of our back four over the season, but he has much more in the credit column than he does in the debit column. Yes there is no harm in wanting to improve in every position, but we're in League 1 and have to accept that our players at this level will have bad games, will have weaknesses and will make mistakes or they would almost certainly be playing in higher divisions. We have to be realistic in what we can expect from our players at this level, we can just hope that they continue to improve. Beckles is still a fairly young player with only two seasons of EFL football, one of which was in League 2, under his belt and with plenty of room for improvement himself.

I love a good moan. Whether it's the chairman, the manager, the ground, the players or #sortitoutwhitfield. But at the moment, I can't find anything to moan about. JA is patiently getting his squad together. If he'd stormed out and signed six players in the fust week, he'd have been accused of panicking. Lettuce wait until all his signings have been done and dusted before firing at the hip at the poor guy.
Then I'll find something to moan about, don't you worry.

Agreed, but I have made it clear for a while that on recent form he would not make my starting eleven. He is not a natural full back and I think most fans Agee that Sads and Toto are our best available CB pairing.

Nothing more boring than supporters making instant judgements on new signings. I've been stunned by some of our fans on here in the last few weeks. It's like last season taught them nothing and we were expected to finish in the top six.

I won’t bother next time. Bother doing what? Giving uselessly vague predictions that benefit no one?

I won’t bother next time. Bother doing what? Giving uselessly vague predictions that benefit no one? I knew who it was that we were signing this morning. I said that it was none of the above that were being mentioned and that it was a signing from a fellow club in our league and for fans to be prepared to be underwhelmed. Get back to checking tickets on Arriva trains buddy.

Coventry fans don’t rate him at all. Pretty underwhelmed. All of them? Fans tend to exaggerate the vulnerabilities of players leaving their club and exaggerate the abilities of those joining. I'm never underwhelmed when we sign players I don't know and haven't seen. Besides which, most signings of most lower league clubs could be described as "underwhelming". What do those people expect?

And didn't we have the 2nd best defence in the league? Why mess about with it when the back four were doing so well Although.... I would suggest Godfrey and ogogo were a huge part on the resolute defence. That's where I think we need to strengthen the most- Gerrard has been suggested who I would be happy with

Why the hell would you not speak to the lad before he joined!!?? Begining to ask serious questions of our Mr Askey If Askey didn't want him, he wouldn't be here. We are playing catch up with a new manager and a prolonged season! I am sure Askey has identified players in positions he wants. I trust Brian has successfully passed on the message!

Why the hell would you not speak to the lad before he joined!!?? Begining to ask serious questions of our Mr Askey Maybe Mr Askey does telepathy, sign language or even emails and texts. Maybe he just trusts his assistant manager. We haven't seen an Askey Shrewcsbury team play yet. but Macclesfield seemed to like him and he got the job after being interviewed by Mr Cauldwell and Mr Wycherley so that's good enough for me. Only thing that bugs me is why he has that big black nose on every time ge starts a video? audioboom.com/posts/6905761-john-askey-on-fixtures

Nothing odd about Ryan not meeting the manager yet. Mr Hurst joined Ipswich and he saw no one, spoke to no one and knew nothing at all about it!!!

the missing links in the defence is a Godfrey type sweeper and of course a keeper who will come for corners, shot stoper and command his box

He's an excellent shot stopper (that last minute save against Rotherham being one of many examples) and deserves his chance with Sheffield United, but as Manchester United clearly realise, he is still a work in progress.

One or two on Facebook seem rather excited about the colour of his hair...
Anyhow, I gotta say that when it comes to Beckles he was for the most part superb last season but then I look to the 90 minutes at Wembley I'm happy to see another left back join the club. No doubt Beckles will have a role to play anyhow so happy to see us strengthen at that position. Young lad and has some experience at this level so let's see. Good luck to him.
