By which time both Ogogo and Rodman will probably have gone. Rodman has gone!! On................ holiday. Everyone needs to chill out a bit give the manager a fair crack. Everyone was resigned to losing ogogo a week ago so what’s changed now? Suppose there’s someone in the hot seat to blame Yeah, everyone is resigned to losing Ogogo. But to Coventry! Same League and hardly down south.

How can you not speak to the players who are deciding whether or not to sign a new contract??
Micky Mellon came in as a new manager and managed to convince Connor Goldson to stay. Goldson said it was down to sitting down and talking to Micky Mellon was the key reason as to why he stayed.
Very naive.

Salop just published on their website: "Craig MacGillivray and Junior Brown have both decided to move to new clubs in the last few days, Portsmouth and Coventry City respectively, but Askey has been in contact with other out of contract players and is hopeful they will sign." www.shrewsburytown.com/news/2018/june/gaffer-on-recruitment/

Did ogogo say he wanted to go down south or was it just printed on here? Coventry are a big club with a very good astute manager in Mark Robins. I admit I thought he might’ve gone to a Charlton or Oxford money talks

I wouldn't say I am more concerned now than I was two weeks ago. At that time I was checking out our odds for being relegated. Unexpected to lose the manager, the Ian's, key players etc. I do believe that the manager has spoken to the out of contract players , i think that it was mentioned on Shrewsworld - but I will check. But I doubt it will change mush in regards keeping them here. This season will be tough, it always was going to be. There was an interesting article detailing how clubs who lost in the play offs fair the following season. Only a few improved (which is not a surprise) but it is not unheard of for a complete collapse with clubs who werr promotion chasers being closer to the bottom than the top 12 months on. Chesterfield comes to mind. Lost in League 1 playoffs in 2015. 18th in 2016. Relegated from League 1 2017. Relegated from League 2 2018. Similar ground and similar attendances to us. You missed out the massive internal wranglings and big financial problems .....

He hasn't even been in the job seven days yet has he? This is unbelievable!!! Of course by now he should have signed Messi and Ronaldo and declared his target of reaching the Premier League in 3 seasons... some of the recent posts on this forum have to be seen to be believed!

It's a bit worrying.
All so different from last summer when we were heralding Hurst's astute signings which were going to make Town automatic promotion contenders...

Similarly I've heard people comparing our situation to Orient, despite their off the field problems

He may not actually like the players out of contract. We like them because they did well for Hurst last season, but that's just it, they did well for Hurst. They may not play to the level ever again in their careers, they might always think they are better than what they are.
Last season was a 'freak' it sometimes happens when a team of players and management just 'click', they perform as a team but then go on their individual pathways and it never quite happens for them. Equally some players who get snapped up from bad teams, go on to exceed expectations when they play for a good one.
The new guy will be weighing up the players, he knows they WERE great players at this level when in a team that played for Paul Hurst. The success they gained early on, bred the success that was to come. But there is no guarantee that Paul Hurst would've got the same success out of them this year. What happened with Ranieri at Leicester a great example.
Askey needs to put his own stamp on the side, he may not feel that ANY of the players are his type of player and the club would be better to sell.
But I reckon he's not sat in his office at the moment biting his nails like a gibbering wreck already preparing his resignation speech. I do reckon he's working hard behind the scenes to build the team he wants.
And good luck to him. As fans we would do well to remember that last year was a freak, Paul Hurst is gone and we need to give John Askey a chance. All may not be as it seems to us fans on the outside.

we've not played a game yet
at this moment I'm expecting about the same as I expected this time last season
a struggle
didn't expect for a minute we'd have a season like we did and don't again
but..
as I said , we've not played yet
I got it wrong last season
I may be wrong again

i hope Askey does not go on this forum or he might wonder what club has he joined, it is understandable that getting so close can generate anxiety about what this season will bring , not every manage broadcasts on social media or via the press what they are doing. things will change and change is part of life ,let us back Askey the same way we backed Hurst and see how the cards fall. otherwise we might need to join a meditation class.

I wouldn't say I was any more concerned than when Mickey Mellon seemed to run out of steam and some non-entity from Grimsby got the job.

15 years as Manager of one lower league side doesnt say a great deal to me about The Managers passion, drive and ambition to challenge and better himself at a higher level.......smacks to me of being happy in a cushy number, not upsetting the Chairman too often and drawing a steady wage packet.
As for THe Assistant Managers credentials I'd say from what I've seen they are about on a par with mine,Exkeepers, jamos and Hoovers, not overly excited by that.
I'm happy to give Tom and Jerry or Mr and Mrs Lenny a go and am a little worried that is exactly what we are doing.
Saving grace though as I usually talk the biggest load of s**te on here than anyone else we are obviously destined for 90 points plus..................

We are only in this position now because our previous manager had drive and ambition. Like he decided to move on in the days leading up to our biggest game for many years causing the players to not bother turning up. Hopefully that won’t happen in this case, but hopefully we will still be successful too.

Dont quite understand "we are in this position now because our old manager had drive and ambition " Is PH the only one out there with those qualities? ,confused. Just saying Askeys's cv doesnt read to me like that of a Manager who has some self aspiration and wants to get somewhere in the game...the exact opposite in fact. I have no idea how the new guys will do and I sincerely wish them every success and we have a good Season. Just why the hell would you stay at Macc for all those years if you wanted to challenge yourself at a higher level which is a quality that most of the younger Managers have these days, whether it does them any good or not, just bothers me a bit.

Paul Hurst had a much easier job with to do coming in when we were bottom, the only way was up ⬆️
He's now left following our best season for decades with great expectations from the fans, understandably, leaving the next manager to pick up the pieces and be ready to go to compete in the top half of the league or loose his job by Christmas..
High risk for Askey, if were in a relegation battle at the end of the year (December) there’ll be no really other option but to get rid and hope for another PH miracle...(no suggesting we can judge him yet but going with the title of the thread Askey the job mowing this)
Add to that a 1 year rolling contract for PH and a 3 year contract for JA you’ve got to question Roland as well... hope there’s a suitable clause in it regarding team performance....
After 1 game PH had the fans on his side whereas JA can’t do anything to impress for over two month so
