Two in two from the bench for Payne. Excellent work for the new boy, exactly what we brought him in to do.

Great character to keep their heads up after conceding late on , then could have won it. Notice on the commentary we winning the ball back very quickly when we loose it. Also Stu Dunns voice never breaks into panic mode these days. Good draw but as Jamo says supporters will be disappointed with just the one point.

Must admit wasn't too optimistic about today but going off reports it sounded like our fine form has continued.
Reason for real optimism, the club is on the move and thankfully in the right direction!
Well done to all at the club

Reason for real optimism, the club is on the move and thankfully in the right direction! Well done to all at the club Plenty to disagree about with off pitch matters but the appointment of Hurst, and subsequent backing of him in the market, really has transformed the club on the pitch. If we have a really good season, manage to bring in safe standing and still have ourselves in a really solid financial position then this time next summer we'll be a club in a fantastic place.

After 2 goals off the bench in 2 games wonder if we'll see Payne start next week.

PH said that Ennis has had some bad news regarding a scan. Guessing that means he's headed back to the Molineux.

Just back home in Salisbury after attending the game.
Nolan. Different class. Ran the game from start to finish.
Knocked it around well all game. Oxford fans were whinging on radio but they were made to look poor. We outfought, outthought, outplayed and outclassed them from the 1st minute to the 90th.
It's my first game this season and I'm not sure what you are accustomed to so far this season but that was a joy to watch. Just a shame we seemed to want to walk the ball into the net at times plus our delivery from set pieces was average at best. Other than that I can't remember the last time I saw Shrewsbury look as composed on the ball as they did today. Oxford got a lucky goal on an extremely rare forage into our half and without Payne look a very ordinary side at best, certainly nowhere near where they think they should be, granted early days yet.
Hopefully we can keep up this level of performance we certainly have a deeper squad than in previous years. That was a tremendous effort today and I never thought I would be so disappointed coming away with just a draw.

Highlights are on Sky page now...
Shows the Morris goal line/crossbar effort but neither pen shouts, those small highlights make it look like oxford were the best team *groan*

It was paynes saved shot that was bundled In.
It was a big black lad who bundled it in. Can only assume it was john Lewis.

Just back home in Suffolk. That was a fabulous game. To think there's a tinge of disappointment that we didn't win speaks volumes for how well we played. We pressed superbly and our passing was controlled and accurate. We made Oxford look very poor indeed. If there was anything to criticise it was perhaps our crossing and our finishing but the way we passed and moved and won every loose ball was excellent and we did more than enough the win the game, and being honest probably should have with two more than decent chances in stoppage time. Didn't really see the penalty incident well enough and the crossbar chance was nowhere near over the line from where I was sitting. We'll play a lot worse than that this season and win and if this is us for the remainder of the season then mid table should be a realistic aim.
Decent performances right through the team as well but Nolan was incredible. A genuinely superb individual performance. He broke up play right through the middle of the pitch and his passing was composed and clinical. He reminds me, not just in looks, of a certain R. Woods.
Can't wait for Gillingham next week. Another performance like today and there's a winnable game.

Have just spoken to Gobby to get the Oxford views on the match. He was unable to get any comments from Mr Ronaldo as he had gone into town to have his chest waxed. He was however able to speak to Mr Messi who was watching the game in the home end and not overly impressed with his teammates. His comments apparently went something like this'Esta tarde estuvimos mierda y tan afortunados pero que significa este canto estupido sheep baggers?

Lots of praise for us on the Oxford Fans Forum.
General consensus was that they were very fortunate to get a point.

Hard to decide if it was a good point or 2 points lost, listening to the commentary it was both ,in the end but much more a case of 2 points lost but overall it's a positive , we've dominated a game that we were not meant to, away to a decent side , and came back from a goal down late of and still could have won
Next 2 games are again....hard Gillingham away , never easy , a point would be good, followed by Wigan who look like one of the early favourites, taught us a lesson last time but again if we are unbeaten next 2i would take it Anything more than 2 points would mean we are serious contenders
The downside is 2 draws seems like 4 points lost I think a reasonable target would be 4 points but not sure which order

Comment from an Oxford fan in the Oxford Mail......
onthebench3 hrs ago This was not points lost, but a point gained. Shrewsbury were one of the best sides I have seen for a very long time. They were a very big physical side who could also play a bit. We struggled for long periods to get anywhere near them. They also had a cast iron penalty turned down in the first half. All credit to the players for sticking with it and I thought we might win it when we went ahead. However, to be fair that would have been cruel for Shrewsbury who were excellent. Very pleasing to see an Oxford fan compare us to Sc***horpe, in 'both being very good league one sides'. Without getting too carried away, I guess this shows how far we have come.

I missed the equaliser, as I was checking out the gents toilets.
Our toilets should be better than the likes of Oxford.
Full toilet report tomorrow.

Just watched Morris lob on the Football League show over and over in slow-mo and it was deffo in.
Such a shame it wasn't a couple of inches lower.

Just watched Morris lob on the Football League show over and over in slow-mo and it was deffo in. Such a shame it wasn't a couple of inches lower. Freeze-framed it and the initial contact as it landed was clearly over the line. It was a goal. So unlucky that whatever backspin must have been on the ball it up and out. Even had it landed on the line, the angle of trajectory should have then taken it into the back of the net. I presume technology isn't there for League One games, and at real time it would have been tough for the officials. But the penalty shouldn't have been tough for them! Disappointing because it would seem that we did actually win the game. But hugely encouraged by the quality of our play. Keep this up and we really have to be a force in this League.

SKY have given Payne as the scorer. Is this right Inspector Swan wasted yet more time on another needless referral: "He's the one who scored, so case closed from my perspective. Clear as day it was Payne from my angle"

Comment on Oxford Messageboard saying we set up to match them. The fact they are wrong is one on the most pleasing parts of this season for me.
We have our own style of play which we are doing each week and letting others worry about us. I know what we are trying to do and how we are trying to score goals. Long time since it has been so clear. I have always said if supporters don't know how we are trying to score goals how do the players know.

Yes I agree - worry more about our own game ahead of being too concerned about the opposition. However, as their manager said post match, playing Godfrey just in front of the back four may have been a ploy from Hurst to stifle their main threat. Be interesting if he resumes in that role.

How did Ben godfrey do ? Didn't go today and wasn't able to listen on the wireless. The lad is huge!!! looks like a defender playing in midfield but sat in front of the defence well enabling Ogogo and Nolan to push forward more.
We got in to some great positions but looked a lot more threatening when we went two up front. Our wingers lack the ability to put consistent decent balls into the box so only having one target and two defenders makes it difficult for us.
