I am undecided about Micky Mellon, but it seems as though the writing is on the wall.
Should this transpire, there is only one person to replace him in my view.
Graham Turner. A club legend.
All is forgiven.

No for me, never go back. Turner had two shots at this league and they were nothing short of awful, the first rescued by that donkey Eaves.
If Mellon does go I'd be looking at managers with a decent league 1 track record.

GT had a great run while we were in League 2 and I'll always remember and value our first promotion into League 1 after we dropped to the conference.

All is forgiven. GT's efforts and ultimate failure in L1 maybe now have a different context following this season's performance. You're right, he is a club legend and the promotion, cup runs and L1 first season survival, during his 2nd coming, are very much part of that legendary status. It's ludicrous to think he would ever come back as manager, but I just wonder whether he, RW and the fans could see a way that he could contribute at Board level, something that was muted a bit when he resigned as manager.

Was sad to see the strain on GT's face the last season he was here..... I feel it did somewhat damage his legendary status, especially for the younger fans, and I hope he enjoys a stress free retirement inHerefordshire....
Now maybe, but just maybe, if he were to front a consortium of investors to instigate a smooth 'transition' of the club from our current wavering state to build on the fantastic opportunity that RW gave the club but failed to always give real fans what there looking for from a less sterile and insular establishment...
This could have been the plan when it went horribly wrong 3 seasons ago and it's probably now too late to revive, but the job of manager is for a younger man (like MM)
(apologies Paul never read your post)

GT certainly already has lengthy experience of being the Chairman of a Football Club.

Can't see him back as manager, would be nice to see him as chairman though.

Graham Turner lost the plot with his total belief in signing players on loan with no passion and no connection with fans. He did it at Hereford and Town AND FAILED

Graham Turner lost the plot with his total belief in signing players on loan with no passion and no connection with fans. He did it at Hereford and Town AND FAILED Let's just qualify your statement a bit: Mellon used more loan signings than GT in getting promoted from L2. GT's loan signings kept us in L1 4 years ago. MM's loan signings have kept us in L1 this season. Several of the top L1 sides this season have had multiple loan signings. Managers live and die by the quality of their signings regardless of whether they are loan or permanent. Especially considering the new rules which encourage loans to stay longer, I look forward to seeing plenty of quality loan players at STFC next season.

True but if we look at the season as a whole and given the FA Cup run and League Cup progress we have done better as a season overall.

I love the bloke but a no for me.
And as for coming back as chairman, well if you listen to Hereford fans then he sounds remarkably similar to Roland

He also kept us in League One in his first season more convincingly than this season. No he didn't. IIRC we finished 16th and were never in the relegation zone all season. I know we like to be pessimistic but that was definitely more convincing than this season. Unless you're being pedantic regarding he phrase "his first season"!

If memory serves me right we only sealed survival with two games to go in that first season. Then won our last two games to finish a somewhat flattering 16th.
Neither campaign can be described as anything like comfortable.

First season up we stayed up with time to spare.....unlike this outing where we've only been saved due to a freak result at Crewe. Would have Turner in a Director of Football working with Mellon/whoever...

Unless you're being pedantic regarding he phrase "his first season"! We headed into the penultimate Saturday on 48 points, and after a goalless draw and results elsewhere, we were mathematically safe on 49 points with a week left to go. We then won a couple of dead rubbers to finish on 55 points, which gave us a bit of gloss, but it was very similar to this year, and certainly no more convincing. Short memories is an unhealthy characteristic of football fans.

Best combination would be Graham Turner as Chairman if he could buy the club and Nigel Pearson as manager if the club could afford to buy him. What price loyalty and giving something back to the club from these two?
