Not had one of these threads in a bit - always interesting to see what ex-town personnel are upto
Came across a story the other day that Jimmy Quinn had started a new job.....as a truck driver in Crewe!!! Bit of a career change!
Would think given the volume of clubs he played for and his managerial experience someone would have set him up with a coaching role!!!

Perhaps he has become a coach driver.

Perhaps he has become a coach driver. Alan Rivers could do the light refreshments maybe!
If not had a look at it already I'd recommend Ben Smiths book - he sums up Quinn as a nice guy who still wanted to be a player still. Which I think was a fair assessment.
He was less glowing about Gary Peters......who is now a football agent I believe! Imagine dealing with him in negotiations!!!!

I like Mr Rivers always had time for a chat and a cup of tea whenever he came in to deliver or collect the kit

Bet Quinny would be our top scorer this season if he still played for us. I remember his absolute delight at scoring against Morecambe in the FA cup 4Q.

I remember his absolute delight at scoring against Morecambe in the FA cup 4Q. i remember him coming on as sub away to woking in the last minute, we were 3-2 down having led 2-0 and he immediately won a penalty which luke scored for his hat trick and then away to scarborough he actually started and scored and then scored 4 in the next 5 or 6 games really strange that he is not in football as a coach although i don't think his communication skills are the best he might be able to do it himself but passing that skill on seems his downfall

Karl Murray was playing for Woking after being released by us and was reveling in the center of midfield.

what a typical rollercoaster day for shrewsbury town that was
2-0 up at half time and should have been more and then grabbing an injury time penalty for a point

Was at that. Really enjoyed going to Morecambes old place. Snap Maybe the fact I was a drunk teenager upon my first visit, but, in the FA cup mentioned above wasn't there a few home fans in a small sponsers block in the away end? Remember them getting some good natured stick

Ah the cup game - good old Gregor Rioch with a 'walk backwards and 'accidentally' tread on the toe of an opponent' who then kicked him and got sent off. Not the only time that happened in that season from what I can remember either!

Worse toilets than the GM!! Yes, but at least you could go for a p**s in the Gents, and still watch the game by peeping over the wall.

Liked JQ, not sure if management was really for him although he gave it a good go at quite a few clubs, the last club he managed was Nantwich I think?
Talking of former players with new careers, I wonder if Richard Hope is still painting oil rigs in the North Sea?

Not the only time that happened in that season from what I can remember either! It wasn't our old pal Jim Bentley was it? The man who looks like he could start a scrap at a WI meeting!

Worse toilets than the GM!! Had a couple of pints at their social club. The toilets were a portacabin and were locked when we came out!

Karl Murray.... To think Sheff Utd him on trial. Did they? I know he made his debut there and played very well which resulted in him attracting their interest, but I didn't know he'd been there on trial. Of course, he was one of our better centre backs in 2003

Some of those away trips in the Conference season were memorable.
Woking - my mate parking miles from the ground and upon asking a local the way the fella ended up giving the 4 of us a lift. We ended up drinking in some snooker club next door.
Scarborough - walking miles to a pub and my mate asking for a pint of shandy tops - snow - JQ falling on his @rse as he scored - 3 points on the way home.....
Morecambe - ****ed - fish and chips - GR winding that winger up so much he got sent off.
Northwich Vic - 2500 Salopians in the home end 300 odd home fans in the away end - SA running the right - back so ragged they him off at half - time only for SA torture his replacement in turn.
Leigh RMI - those bogs! - the bar under the stand - the blonde - Alan Rivers running around to the dressing room to get LR's shirt - parking in some supermarket, crossing a dual carriage way and climbing a wall to get to the ground.
Gravesend - deciding to leave at 12.30 and still get there for kick off - surprised I didn't get 3 points.....
Many, many more.

Mind you best memories of Richard Hope was chanting " You should have signed for a big Club" during the Rexham home game as he donated us the first goal the season they went down
