Well there is no way he is going to play ahead of Sadler, with Brown and NKP when fit, seems pretty obvious to me he'll find it very difficult to get a start.
He had a very good season for a first season in League football but he had some real shockers at times as well.
Lots of good crosses into the box.................... but at least twice as many, or more, awful ones together with wasteful use of the ball from similar good positions.
MM doesn't think hes up for the step up, he knows a hell of a lot more about his potential than I do, but cant say I'm surprised........

Decent enough player but it bet he is on a decent wage as we fought off a few League One clubs to sign him.
I certainly wouldn't pay him off but surely another club would want to "take over his contract"?

He signed a two year contract-the club should honour it-if they dont then they should pay the full value of the remainder of it. Mickey D has done nothing wrong. I feel for the guy.

Looks like we are hanging out for the cheap option of some other club taking over his contract.
In the meantime, JLAA and Grandison remain in limbo.

But that won't do much for MD's career as he probably won't feature at all, he is clearly being frozen out now When someone offers wages somewhere near what he is on now and Town give him a lump sum of 3 or 4 months pay he will be off

But while we are waiting for some other club to come in for him, we presumably risk losing JLAA and/or Grandison.

I like him, and he certainly did a job for us last season, but I'm surprised about the love for him on here and Facebook. Although he worked hard and was generally solid last season, I felt he showed he could be a weak link on several occasions, being caught out of position, a few slips and being unable to recover along with his crossing let us down. League One is another step higher.
Unfortunately for MD players have been brought in that are now ahead of him and it makes sense to move on, will certainly do a job somewhere.

Another player who played his part last season. One of the players who did extra pre-season training to be in perfect shape for the new season. Hope the lad gets offered something decent. Solid first season in the football league.

Again, like Gayle, an example of MM being ruthless, backing his judgement about what a player may or may not do in L1, despite some success at L2. It's a very different approach to 3 years ago and most welcome IMO.

From what I saw of him he looked a thoroughly decent player who could have done a job at this level. Sadler is proven here, though, and MM evidently rates him higher based on what he's seen. Thought he was slightly over-hyped by some when he was labelled our most valuable asset, but still.
Still slightly torn over this, though. Bit like with Gayle but even more as Mickey was a key player last season. Why should any of our fans expect loyalty from players when the club doesn't demonstrate loyalty to its players who earned promotion? Equally, though, if he gets fixed up then it is better for him financially and he will be playing regularly rather than sitting on the bench.
Anyway, all the best MD if you do head off. Played a key role in the club's regeneration both on and off the field and I won't forget that. Sure we'll face him at some point soon.

I feel that he deserves a chance to prove that he is good enough for League One as he was the player in possession of the LB position at the end of last season, but it seems he isn't going to get that chance. It's a shame really as he comes across as such a club man.

Twenty five years old, with a lower non league history with one season in the Football League. He needs more league experience to progress, but we cannot afford the time or resources to get him to a higher level. It's a dog eat dog world. MM has seen his limitations and made a decision. In my view he is a basic lower league defender who could play on until his mid thirties and then go into management at some level. I wish him well and thank him for all he did for us last year.
My other bit of advice would be, " get some friggin longer studs in your boots. "

It's a shame really as he comes across as such a club man. That's my only concern too. Was clearly a popular part of the team last season off the field, and despite one or two iffy displays was generally a good performer for us especially in the wing back position where he chipped in with a few goals Fair play to the manager sticking his neck on the line if he thinks he's not good enough for League One so soon but he's got to be sure the new players are better. Sadler is a great full back but my feeling was he got a nose bleed going forward and wasnt great getting balls into the box That was the problem with the second season in league one - lack of team spirit and not replacing players with better quality

Sounds like there's plenty of interest from clubs wanting to take on MD, so he'll no doubt get fixed up soon and be better off than he would be in the Salop wilderness. I doubt he'll even make the bench if he stays.

Quite frankly Junior Brown,in what I have seen so far has failed to excite me and,he too is a lower league player-yet MM chooses to offer him a one year deal!!

Pretty sure if the funds were there MM would be happy to keep MD as part of the squad as decent cover for any injury or loss of form for MS, particularly with NKP still on the long road back.
However the budget is limited and sadly MD is an obvious option to try and free up funds to be used in other higher priority areas.
As long as MM is honest and fair with the player in the circumstances there should be no reason why it can't work out well for all concerned. MM seems to have a good track record in this respect as well.
It would be sad to see MD leave as he made a decent contribution last season, on and off the field, and we should thank him for that, but in return we gave him his first chance at league level and a promotion on his cv.

After his first season with us I think MD has earned the right to be around in League 1. Decent player, decent bloke I reckon sorry to see him going so soon

I guess he may not be going anywhere if he doesn't agree to it!?
Already turned a couple of clubs down (I wonder who?) ...
I wonder about the timing of the reveal of this info...
Is it to make him 'pull his socks up'? Or perhaps it's sorted and we will find out he's off to a Lg2 club in the next few days, Though it would be funny if Rotherham him to the Championship! Haha!
Or, maybe just because of all the speculation?

I appreciate money is tight but there is clearly something going wrong if we are bringing in bright young things who we develop and they do well but we are then unable to cash in on them.

I wonder for how long MD has known that he has been surplus to requirement?
I would be disappointed if he has only just found out.
I'm of the opinion that MD deserves a crack at league 1, but it's now clear it's not going to be with us.
I also wonder why he was given a 2 year deal, did we face stiff competition for his signature at the time?

I guess MM knew that MD would be pushed down pecking order when he targeted Sadler and Tootle but could only inform MD once those two players agreed to sign for us. So probably in last month just before pre season began which is since when MM had talked about shifting the squad around .

Indeed there isn't.
In MM we trust, just personally unsure how much better Sadler is than MD?
