Regarding the Chairman for a while I was one of his biggest critics but have to say that since May he has "played a Blinder" as Chairman! Did he actually bend you over his desk and Roger you senseless during your 'cosy little chat ? " You've turned into some sort of evangelical Billy Graham figure of late. Must have really hurt you having to smile through gritted teeth yesterday.

Extraordinary bad manners from me. I haven't thanked the Chairman for listening to the overwhelming support from our supporters who wanted the loggerheads back.
Thank you very much, Mr Chairman, very much appreciated.

No need for anyone to argue about who might have said once on this particular thread. Past is past and all that.
This is an important historic milestone that shows that the club has turned a corner and does have the capacity to 'listen', it shows that Supporters Parliament works and above all else it shows that there are supporters willing to work hard and to fight for what they believe is right.
Bloody fair play to them. Everything attached to this milestone is brilliant and not only that it provides a lot of positivity for the future. There's no need for anyone to look at it in any other way.

Extraordinary. Genuine question here - do you regret your previous posts on the badge subject? Would you behave differently if we could rewind the clock? In the beginning several people like myself played the devils advocate as there were certain questions that needed to be challenged and clarified and theories disproved , like the copywrite for example. These were fair questions and did not deserve some of the abusive responses received and only go to alienate people who walk away from the campaign.
I never ever said I preffered Clippy over the Loggerheads, it was assumed, and even used the Loggerheads as my avatar during those early posts which you seemed oblivious too.
Point is Justin and Geoff, had a large number of responses not been as rude, abusive and aggressive in their manner the Loggerheads would possibly have been restored quicker than it has!
And Mortgagehound would not have been writing out the first lesson of manners!

Thats very debtable and obviously we will never know. My personal viewpoint is that the club were dismissive of the original petition and put it down to a couple of teenagers with nothing better to do, however they were then surprised at the attention that got and couldnt simply hope things died down. But and again this is purely my personal view, the deciding factor to get the vote and then the go ahead was down to relegation and Roland wanting to do something to get the fans back on side. A very cynical outlook I know but thats my belief However going back to your point, I think that the no nonsense approach that Justin & Geoff showed was vital to showing the club they werent going to disapear and also they wouldnt accept any token half measures, eg some retro loggerheads merchandise. Generally the STFC fanbase is a mild-mannered apathetic bunch so things can easily get swept under the carpet, for once some people came in with a passionate and abrasive approach which got people's attention. Yes it might have annoyed Roland which meant he wanted to dig his heels in but had they gone with a softly softly approach Id be amazed if we were celebrating the return of the loggerheads by now

Being serious here.
I've offended Fred with my juvenile sense of humour. I actually those words off a van of a local tradesman in our area. Even with the I should have realised that with passions running high at the moment, it was totally stupid. I do sometimes just fire off from the hip.
I wouldn't wish to offend Fred or any other poster on b&a in any way, so I've given myself a 14 day ban from the board.
Sorry, Fred.
Regards,
jaytee.

Apart from the occasional and rather superfluous banter, I think that the general mood of the fans is one of renewed optimism. Something that the club has been missing for far too long, and the decision on the new badge has served to bolster. Along with what looks like a dynamic new team with new ideas of play brought in by a new manager with a more confident attitude, and what seems like a real effort from those on high to understand and listen to those who care the most, The fans. A club Is as only as strong as it's fan base, and as long as the mantra stays strong throughout the club, with this new sense of optimism, and the feeling that their views are being heard and indeed acted upon, then things are certainly looking up. Everything by degrees, and the positive vibes are building...............

These were fair questions and did not deserve some of the abusive responses received and only go to alienate people who walk away from the campaign. I think it's a little disingenuous to suggest it was just playing devil's advocate. If you wanted the campaign to succeed then speak to the people in question, privately, and raise your issues. But you and Hugh trolled badge discussions, time and again. That caused frustration for the lads trying to bring about change. So if you meant to help them, then that's an extremely odd way of showing it. You've definitely mellowed since talking to an Everton fan and the chairman. I just don't buy it that winding up and insulting the fans seeking change, while confusing almost every discussion by repeating opposite views, can now be construed as being for the greater good. But then maybe I do see you and Hugh as a partnership so am imposing some of what he said onto you. I certainly thought the caustic tone of the campaign at times was massively self defeating, and Geoff will tell you I contacted him privately on several occasions and encouraged him to go about it differently. Sometimes he listened and sometimes he didn't.

Ok TBH change Devils Advocate to reasoned argument if you like but don't paint the picture that the boys were victims of being insulted. Anyone who disagreed received a barrage of abuse and you know it, causing some posters not to participate on the subject. That does not mean their views were changed. MH and I were not prepared to accept those tactics. I would also suggest the reasoned counter argument from others on this board, the forming of the SP were instrumental in the change of badge being a success!

There were regular claims of abuse towards people who were anti change but we saw this on an old thread that was revisited this week that there actually wasn't much. There may have been a few 'club apologists' comments but generally there was just a lot of productive responses when the anti change would make the same claims over and over again, eg:
The badge isn't that important ( it's only a badge) We should focus our energy on the pitch A change will cost loads That cost wil impact on the playing budget The campaign will damage relations with the club
Or the never ending "I don't care" when arguing regularly as to why the badge shouldn't change.
The badge was a decisive issue so whatever the outcome there was always going to be some people with their noses put out of joint. Yes we are all STFC fans but have many different viewpoints so threads like this are inevitable.
Finally and speaking of insults, lets not forget that some people got personal towards Justin & Geoff and would regularly make throwaway comments about their age as if the whole issue should be dismissed because of it.

Pretty much says it all really. There is no high ground to be had by 'the don't care' brigade in terms of being the victims of abuse. Smoke and mirrors is their order of the day and it will be seen as such. Anyway, now that victory is secured I am glad that they are happy and on board. Everyone's welcome on the happy bus.

Oh but you can't ban yourself - where will the laughs come from for the next 14 days?!
May I suggest that everyone (fors and againsts) now move on to the next stage. A vote has been held, the result announced and the next stage identified so let's get on with it. After all, I have had to live with the result of the last General Election for the past 4 years and a coalition certainly wasn't something I voted for but I have survived!!!!!!!

I would also suggest the reasoned counter argument from others on this board, the forming of the SP were instrumental in the change of badge being a success! I'm certain that's true. Only something like the SP could connect enough to actually evoke change. But I certainly stand by my previous question why those who chipped at regarding copywrite, cost, focus, importance etc have gone silent. That's not you Rob. That's a general point. Why are those people not attacking the SP initiative with same vigour? Surely the problems of cost, focus etc are still valid? Or have they finally been shown to be the straw men that always argued they were? And perhaps treated those arguments withthe contempt they deserved. I certainly wish some of the tone and terminology used on both sides had been much warmer and inclusive. But people were not just arguing with about tone, they were throwing up all sorts of counter arguments that have been proven to be false, misleading and fruitless. have got the tone wrong at times, no doubt. But they were right. Right about the majority of fans. Right about the copywrite. Right about the cost. Right about the strength of feeling. But anyhow, onto the happy bus everyone. The badge is changing.

I hope he is planning a trip to the bank to withdraw the cash, which I know KL8 is going to donate to a charity closely linked with Town fans. - Brought Back The Loggerheads
