Don't really need to march to cause trouble though - pity they can't be moved on and not allowed to gather in large groups.
Still they have succeeded in causing mayhem already - by closing down a town centre on it's busiest day and causing the cancellation of a high profile football match.
Pity they can't realise they are just not wanted in these parts.

I think it's a bad thing that the march has been banned.

Would have allowed the march as this will keep the knuckle draggers together whereas a static demonstration is sure to lead to some/many drifting off to local pubs etc... should have re-routed march up The Wrekin then held them there for 6 hours...............

To be honest Im not sure why this wasnt done some time ago.
I think quite a few EDL protests are just static protests rather than marches as the local authorities get them banned.
Considering Telford were playing Luton on the same day it seems ridiculous the local police force did not apply for this, some time ago

I've got no problem with people protesting as it is our democractic right and why we fought two world wars and continue to fight in Afghanistan.
However what really makes me laugh is the letter I saw in the Shropshire Star from a lady EDL supporters who said that our values and traditions were being eroded.
Well how about organising a march foro a Saturday on the day the local football team is at home? A march against a team from the town wher ethnic tensions are hightened by such groups as the EDL.
Ummmmmmmmmmm.

Don't think the bans going to stop the EDL from turning up though.

I heard that trains weren't stopping in Wellington on Saturday morning or Telford Central, so they will all be getting off in Oakengates and walking to Wellington. Isn't that effectively a march?
This might have changed since the ban, so I could be wrong.

So they've called off the telford match, and then called off the edl march which was the reason why the telford match was called off??

I'm no fan of the EDL and what they stand for, and really can't see what marching through Wellington to protest against pedophiles was supposed to achieve. However would have supported the march going ahead in normal circumstance, as people do have a right to protest and express their views
But in light of this weeks events I can understand why the police have asked for the march and Telford game to be cancelled. They simply don't have the numbers to police it should incidents occur elsewhere
I would hope that the EDL would see the bigger picture and postpone the event in Wellington. Perhaps the money they save from hiring buses to attend the event could be given to the NSPCC to help children affected by abuse?

EDL could have gained some good publicity by calling off their march when the riots started. Missed that opportunity and now those that do come will probably hang around until trouble occurs. Is the new Weatherspoons going to be open? Not much else is. Wellington could do without this, don't think many Wellington residents would want anything to do with EDL.

People in the Oakengates area are quite concerned. Me old mum thinks its a rape and pillage job. So much so she will stay with us tomorrow.
The amount of ludicrous rumours is laughable.
I truly hope the EDL understand the fear they put into pensioners and local people - might I add people of all faiths and colours.
To close I honestly think the EDL are moronic causing more harm than doing good.

Tbh all the media attention and presence of the Police has gone so over the top its ridiculous, I work in Wellington and to see businesses spending hundreds, maybe thousands of pounds on boarding up their premises, one I saw on Market Street installing roller shutters at 6pm tonight JUST for tomorrow Although the Police will be stretched tomorrow their presence in Wellington should be enough to stop traders being that concerned, particularly as the march is off now and the way people in Wellington are acting is quite frankly such an over reaction its untrue. I spoke to one of my clients who has an Indian worker who left work at 10am to go and board up her house, it wasn't even in Wellington town centre!!! I also has one of my temps refuse work as the pick up point was in Wellington but at 7am in the morning, WTF!!! I know people are a bit scared but the way the police, local media and gossiping in Wellington has gone you would think that the Taliban were coming to drop bombs on Wellington, unbelievable.

Running battles with thugs attacking each other is not likely to breaking windows/doors and setting fires is it, the brawls probably be the same tomorrow as you would see outside the Rock in Shrewsbury every couple of seasons, in the grand scheme of things, big deal, doesn't mean you need to spend hundreds, poss thousands on metal shutters or boardings. Over-reaction, simple.

Maybe you should ask the residents, vehicle owners and shop keepers who were subjected to criminal damage in Dudley (Sept & July 2010), Leicester (Mar 2010), Hartlepool (May 2011), Stoke (2010) & Bridgwater amongst many many others....

If anyone thinks that the banning of the EDL to march through Wellington will prevent trouble, then i'm afraid they are very much mistaken. The EDL will be there, the Asian Defence League will be there, Protesters against the EDL will be there, plus the usual knobs from Telford and Shrewsbury as well as Wolverhampton and district, will be there, just to join in and have some fun?
Glad i'm in Burton.
