Exactly!!! Running battles with thugs attacking each other is not likely to breaking windows/doors and setting fires is it, the brawls probably be the same tomorrow as you would see outside the Rock in Shrewsbury every couple of seasons, in the grand scheme of things, big deal, doesn't mean you need to spend hundreds, poss thousands on metal shutters or boardings. Over-reaction, simple. Maybe you should ask the residents, vehicle owners and shop keepers who were subjected to criminal damage in Dudley (Sept & July 2010), Leicester (Mar 2010), Hartlepool (May 2011), Stoke (2010) & Bridgwater amongst many many others.... after the last 7 days i would not want to own a shop in weillington they must have been and maybe still are dreading tomorrow

The local hospitals on high alert for today and the major incident plan is in operation. not looking forward to today.
I have to say i have no problem with demonstrations by anyone, edl or otherwise, but this is purely aimed at causing trouble amongst the local community.
they claim that they are providing a voice for local people.
Really? how patronising, are we to assume the local people arnt able to speak for themselves? What was the BNPs share of the vote at the last election? That sounds like a pretty clear message to me.
Do the population of wellington/telford really need "rent a thug" to come and speak for them? i dont think so.

The match was called off due to a combination of things including the riots, the EDL and the flower show. The EDL will still turn up in force. They always do when these kind of banning orders come into place. Yeah the Flower Show does get a bit lively later on after the geranium competition and the show jumping. Still needs officers there and contingency plans etc ;-)

The last EDL protest in Berkshire went peacefully without any arrests or disorder, I have it on good authority that their has been a handful or arrests for 'minor' disorder today and NO damaged property or businesses, as I said over-reaction, and needless loss of trade, money due to scare-mongering by the media, gossip and the authorities.

I also has one of my temps refuse work as the pick up point was in Wellington but at 7am in the morning, WTF!!! That's a classic Telfordian activity known as "any excuse for a day off". The counter to which would be to offer an alternative pickup.

5 arrests according to Midlands Today, and the opposing protest seemed to have a bit of argy-bargy with the police looking at the brief footage shown on TV.

Got caught behind a convoy of edl mini buses being escorted to the motorway when leaving work today.
How do these cocks differ from the old national front, other than most of these apes would probably struggle to spell national front but can just about manage edl.
w****rs.

The cost to both the taxpayer, the local businesses and local people is tremendous.
Old folk scared witless - businesses closed on a summer Saturday - local people scared to venture out into their own community.
As you leave EDL you should understand this all the people of Telford whatever colour - creed - or religion want you to understand you are not welcome, you provide no service, you bring hatred and division.
Kindly F00K Off

Think some blame must be placed on the police.
Originally they stated the march could not be banned.
They then gave advice to AFCTU that the match should be postponed (advice taken)
They then stated it was possible to have the march banned
The ban was applied for and accepted
Net result? Nothing happened in Wellington - no march, no match and businesses closed unnecessarily. Can't help thinking this was the 'best result' for the police irrespective of other parties.

Yesterday afternoon I spent a thoroughly unpleasant half hour on the train between wellington and wolverhampton (i was going from shrews to brum) when these morons got on at wellington and telford.
All knocking back the super strength lager, smoking on the train, eyeballing all the passengers and trotting out half hearted "EDL" chants. An Asian lad got on at Telford and if it wasn't for the Robocops milling around with their cameras he would have been in danger, I've no doubt of it. No one could ever take them seriously if they behave in this p**sed up gunning for a fight manner. Just like a load of dumbarse EBF pricks. They probably can't even spell politics.
Half of them got off at Shifnal and the rest at Wolves. There were a couple of skirmishes with the police at the stations along the route.
So the police thought that by banning the march they would save on police numbers? There were at least 15 at every station along the route, and a few on the train. I was grateful for their presence, however, and at Wolves a copper came along and asked all the passengers if they had any crimes to report.
These w****rs wouldn't last 5 minutes in Hackney.

Which is why my origina post is what it is, the police and idle gossip and media made every resident of Wellington feel petrified and they shouldn't, the idiots were no worse than a wolves/baggies derby or when our idiotic EBF lot fancy a skirmish with Walsall or Wrexham. I'm cross because of the needless amount of money spent by traders and residents in Wellington on boarding up and fitting roller shutters, it's difficult enough as it is to make a living in this recession without handing over lots of cash to glazers because they've been made to feel that if they didn't they could of had problems like in the cities, crazy!!!!!

Yes, but we've got more than enough local idiots as you point out - why the @'k do we have to import any more into our area.
The only reason given is 'these people have a right to protest' - well @'kin do it in your damn town then and save yourself the expense.

46 arrests, 10 people charges, 3 cautions and more bailed.
These EDL rallies do seem to coincide with disorder don't they?

Out of interest, has there been any details on numbers arrested and what group they belonged to? I saw that 'Coppers' programme on 4 last week where they showed the police having to deal with an EDL march and counter UAF march in Bolton. Lots of arrests including plenty from the UAF Also, a friend of mine works in Morrisons (Wellington), said he saw a group of 50 or so Asians chasing a much smaller group of white men by the store. He said a number of white men appeared (possibly EDL) and they clashed with the Asians, with arrests from both sides.

Oh, I understand them perfectly, that's why I think they should be banned. Funny that because Mussollini liked banning things. He banned protests and then went further to ban opposing political parties. It seems that you oppose the EDL for being right wing 'scum' yet share the fundemental ideology of a fascist. Pot kettle black anyone
