I wonder if I went to the club and said im on behalf of the "B and A supporters group" and I want to raise some money for the club and supporters "
please can I have all the addresses of town fans that you have on your records",
what would they say?
I also find it dubious that, is that a superblues thing or a town thing? If its the town fair enough, but then why do the Superblues get the credit for it. If its a superblues thing, then how come they can have my address, even though Im not a member, is that some issue with the data protection act? Is there an opt out? I have never seen one?

Glyn - As a director of the club was at great pains to point out to me last year, the Super Blues is a part of STFC- a supporters club. You seem to think that they are a completely independent body?
It is my understanding that they have board directors and other STFC employees who attend meetings with Super Blues organisers and try to find issues where the club feels they would like support, and areas that the superblues want their contributions to be used.
They do not blindly hand money over for the club to do with as it wishes, and for that reason, as well as their long history of successful fund raising for much needed club expenditure I am more than happy to continue to try to help them.
If people have thoughts about where money should be spent (or not spent) then they should talk to Chris Smith or Ron Brown and this feedback will reach the club in a constructive way.
I don't think that the people who run our club are stupid enough not to realise that if they alienate the Super Blues then the money will stop, and i don't think the people running the Super Blues are naive or stupid enough to spend so much of their time slogging away with dinners, golf days, Q&A evenings, raffles, auctions etc in order to simply give Roland a bag full of money and ask him to spend it however he wants.

Dave thanks for the update, I was wrong, and I thought they were independant.. That puts another spin on it...
My next set of questions
1) Why do we have two "offcial" supporters group? 2) There is the assumptions we dont have any independant supporters groups then that works with the club? 3) if there are 500SB and 500odd OSC members how do they get the views of all fans over to the club to help improve the match day experince.
My view is that when there were fans reps meetings, the most interesting and useful feedback the club ever got was from the independant fans who could bring reasoned and useful stuff to the clubs attendance. For me both the supporters groups never raised such points regually as they cant/dont want to upset the status quo.
Does the club rely more on the OSC/Superblues or do they rely more on the club?
Thanks for the extra info though.
Lastly does the club benifit from having two main supporters groups which are both not independant and unlikely to rcok the boat to much, who have generally given money to the club to assist with purchaseing fixture and fittings rather than helping improve the match day experience of the common fan (im talking south and west stand)
I think that we really lack having any group that can collate the thoughts and problems at the ground through a supporters base and feed it back to the club at regualr intervals (with no precurse to having to raise money)
its all very intresting, Im really no nocking the guys puting in hard work for all this, but I wonder if were in the best place right now for stopping the club from becoming complaicement about the match day expeirnce at the new ground, and feel that other than a angry email to them there is not much you can do, and no one standing up for the average fan?

It think the Supporters grouping can be summed up as such.
SuperBlues - Club appointed fundraising group who do a fantastic job. Hold events such as Boxing, Dinner dances etc. Money raised is for specific projects linked to the club. Benefit for fans joining is the monthly draw, and discounts.
Official Supporters Club - Historical fans fundraising body, that contributed in the past to terracing the old Gay Meadow, producing the programme, floodlights and of course the Buffets at Gay M. Today run coaches to away games and hold quiz and open 'meet the manager' nights. Launched cleebration glass set. Member of the Football Supporters Federation.
Chris Smith and the Away Supporters - Organise coaches to away games. Historically the first choice to travel away with Town. Fund raise. Chris Smith also Super Blues chairman.
shrewsTRUST - Co-operative styled body with the aim of promoting community ownership of football clubs. Members of Supporters Direct. Members own a £1 share of the Shrewsbury Town Supporters Society Limited, a company limited by guarantee. Every member owns an equal share. Members elect Trust board via elections. Accounts have to be submitted to the Finanical Services Authority. Currently about to launch Concourse Project, which will provide something for the fans, and get them involved. Also involved in 'ShrewsTales and More' a lottery funded community project that for first time will chronicle and detail Shrewsbury Town's history and importance to the community. Also members of the Football Supporters Federation and Co-operatives West Midlands.
Hope that helps.

I think the South Stand Conservative Association (SSCA) deserves a mention also.
Totally independent of the Club, doesn't cost a quid to get in and do bugger all but moan.
But we are older than Shrewstrust thus more senior.

Surely if Super Blues donate £10k to a project that the Club would have to undertake (maybe because the fans have requested it such as the gate in the fence) that leaves the club with that £10k to spend on players / wages. So yes it does benefit the fans both ways.

Which group paid for John Keister? Was he a fixture or fitting or did he improve the match day experience.
On a similar note who paid for the nets a few years back?

The signing of John Keister was funded by the ISC (Independent Supporters Club) Not sure about the nets, I'm guessing that was a Super Blues purchase?

My recollection is that the nets were an initiative by the then Commercial Manager whose name I forget (ex DJ?) and not a fans group.
He raised the money direct from fans, including some from B&A.
I don't dispute what DaveG says, but it's a matter of priorities as far as I'm concerned.
Seeing what has happened to Chester, Wrexham, Telford et al I believe that fans priority must be securing the future of their club by owning a significant part of it.
The fact is that the future ownership of our club is in the hands of RW and his successors and there is nothing to prevent the return of a Wingrove or a Bickerton.
By all means raise money for the club, but get shares in return - this is what I had hoped the trust would do.
That is still very much the objective. The club is very well run with a good board and chairman. There is no doubt about that. Its the future we are concerned about. Maybe not the next chair, but who knows the one after that. We want to see the club eventually community owned. The Trust sees itself as representing the community to take the club forward. Define community? Evereyone from the fans who support the club, to businesses who support (and benefit) from having a football club in the Town. The 'Community' should own all football clubs, whether thats by a full Supporters Trust/ Membership ownership model (ie Barcelona, Exeter City, AFC Wimbledon, FCUM, or a 51/49 or 50/50 model as in Germany for example). Wec see that as the only way to stop these people who continually rec football clubs. Its got to stop, hence why the government is holding an inquiry into the governance of football clubs.

I think those nets were bought by another group, no longer about (Blue Army ?) "Shares" (or should that be "squares" !) in the nets were sold to fans and I still have my "share" certificate . I shall be looking for a higherv dividend should they be used in Div 1 ! The Secretary at the time was Judy Shone .

Unfortunately , for the Trust to buy shares there must be a willing Seller . In my view the Trust needs to think along the lines of seeking out fans who would be happy to consolidate their small individual shareholdings into one (perhaps under a Trust "wrapper") to give fans a more signifcant holding. Any Trust should be looking to own at least 25% of a Clubs issued share capital so that it can have some statutory protection against so called " carpetbaggers" . Finally can I make clear that this is my personal opinion and NOT intended to a statement of shrewsTRUST policy or intentions. (better get that proviso in before our next Board meeting )
