As part of an article for the next fanzine, myself and Dave (TBH) were the other night debating (our wifes were talking about babies so we had to think of something to discuss!) the all time STFC villains.
We are NOT talking about anyone who has played for or managed STFC – that would be a long list, and frankly we have done that in a recent fanzine.
No were talking about player and managers who are considered villains for there actions against OUR club…
We banged our heads together to come up with a few but these were pretty recent…
Marcus Stewart, when he played for Bristol Rovers and his diving antics in the Autoglass trophy two legged game before we got to the final… he almost conned us out of our first trip to the twin towers!
Gary Bennet, a Wrexham Idol, and the man who scored a goal and put in a celebration which wound up the riverside more than I had ever seen as a young lad!
Brian Wake – Scored a hatrick in the second last game at the meadow in season 2002/03, which effectively relegated us (and saved his team), also was a total pain in the ass, kicking town players about the place, and seemingly enjoying relegating us!
(although I still remember the game more for the defining moment of Ryan Lowe’s stupidity, chasing the game he comes on for Jemson, his first toutch wins a free kick, and low petulantly wacked the ball at Sumerbell, and was sent off! Idiot! )
I wont put any more up as im sure most town fans can think of a few people who have hurt the club we love for a variety of different reasons!
Any help on this would be grand.
Cheers

I remember someone scoring against us in a cup tie, and milked it for ages at the wakeman end It was almost as if they had won the cup It was quite ironic really that this turned out to be the only time he'd ever celebrate in front of town fans Jamie cureton

Chris Kamara and Steve Walsh? Didn't they both break someone's cheekbones? Melrose and Geddis if I recall correctly.

From the 1990's - Tony Ellis - the hatred towards him started after he scored 3 or 4 goals when Preston dicked us at the start of the 1993/94 Promo season.
Walsh smacked Geddis away to Leicester at the start of the 87/88 season if i recall correctly.

Ashley (or was it Chris?) Westwood who kicked off at Luke Rodgers in the carpark? I'd say Richard Hope for his infamous 'Wrexham bigger club than Shrewsbury' comment although he then played his part in taking them down so maybe he is a hero?!

I think I'm jinxed, my other half sat next to Steve Walsh at school and I worked with Ashley Westwoods dad

How could I forget!
Steve Kerrigan for his infamous (and very long) goal celebration when he scored in the last minute at the Shay for Halifax in 2000.
A very bleak day that was!

Very much agree with Tony Ellis, like Bennett he always seemed to score against us.
Steve Walsh and Chris Kamara both have to be on the list for smashing our players with elbows and breaking their jaws - i think they were in successive seasons too.
I can't remember which one was did Geddis, but if i remember rightly he was out for months and months with that injury, but at the time was probably our most important striker and at the end of the season we got relegated from what was the championship? just wonder what the effect on the history of STFC that had!

Anyone remember the Macc player who scored against us at Moss Rose a couple of years ago when we lost 3-0 i think. I can't remember his name, but his celebration right in front of us town fans caused a stir.

None of this mamby-pamby 1-3 games. And it was the season (1987-88) before our relegation from the old 2nd Division (1988-89).

A couple of managers worthy of a mention:
Mark Wright at Chester - Vaughan's bootlicker, and a complete t***** who could never resist having a dig at us. Ended up at the centre of a mass-brawl on the Gay Meadow pitch after a late Michael Symes winner one season.
Martin Allen, for his antics during the GP play-offs and general behaviour throughout the season.
Player-wise, I've always hated Adam Proudlock. A relatively local lad who's played for several detestable local teams, always seems to score against us however overweight he looks and can never resist rubbing it in afterwards.

Peter Swan taking out Ian Stevens when we played Burnley I think.
A very cynical foul that put him out for ages.
Another gobby performance from Burton's Stanton and he will be on the list, a vile little tub of lard.

Not sure if fair to classify him as a villain, but I had a fairly long running slanging match with the late Robbie James during a home game against Bradford (I think) in the early 90's. Basically I believe I voiced an opinion from the Riverside that Mr James has contributed to Robert Hopkins being shown a red card. James reacted a touch angrily to my suggestion and a war of word ensued through the wire fencing that was up at the time. At the final whistle he decided to commence his discussion with me and had to be convinced to leave the field by a bemused looking linesman.
A few years later he passed on..although that had nothing to do with me....
