Anyone remember when that fullback who played on loan for us at Wembley came back to the Gay Meadow? For Scarborough was it?
I remember Bizzy running up and down the touchline waving his scarf at him and screaming obscenities at him for almost the whole game.

Peter Swan taking out Ian Stevens when we played Burnley I think. A very cynical foul that put him out for ages. Also Burnley's Adrian Heath taking out Carl Griffiths in 'the John Bond' FA Cup tie replay at GM. Shocking tackle that put Griffiths out for some time

Agree, he was a numpty;;; Chris Kamara, for Swindon Town v Shrewsbury Town, January 1988 Jim Melrose suffers a broken cheekbone in an incident that ends with Kamara being fined £1,200 for causing grievous bodily harm. He is the first professional player in British football to be fined by a court for an on-pitch assault. I did enjoy his curry eating contest with Razor Ruddock the other week on Soccer AM though. Apparently, and I may be wrong but he accused Melrose of racial comments about his new born. I think tonight if that numpty from Vale scores (Richards?) his previous celebrations have been a little OTT. As long as it's not the winner

Chris Kamara and Steve Walsh? Didn't they both break someone's cheekbones? Melrose and Geddis if I recall correctly. Absolutely no contest, those 2 should never have played football again. , if they played any in the first place that is.

Not wanting to be pedantic but strictly speaking it was a criminal court case - the first time a player had been charged with a criminal offence (GBH) for something that happened on a football pitch. I wonder if Messrs Carragher and Rafael are currently helping Merseyside constabulary with their enquiries....

I was in the Wakeman Stand for some reason that night and the "attack" from Heath was right in front of me. One of the most horrific challenges i have ever seen. I heard a story that after the game Heath came into the players bar and tried to order a drink and was told be the lads serving to F off on the account of his actions

Suprised nobody has mentioned Dave Artell yet! Generally just a very annoying player, who played his part in our relegation!

As long as it's not the winner I was at that one, remember the fracas after the final whistle, was it the same game v Swindon that Victor scored his 40 yarder? How he has made a career out of football being nothing more than a thug is beyond me, he should of been jailed. To this day, i've never heard Kamara say anything complimentary about Shrewsbury. Big fan of Steve Anthrobus, but when he came back with Oxford a few years later, he kicked lumps out of us in a 20 min sub appearance. How he didn't see red i'll never know. He got a great reception from the fans when he came on too which made it even worse. Kamara def No 1 villan tho

David Artell and Efe Sodje spring to mind Also which Port Vale goalkeeper was it who ran the length of the pitch to celebrate after they scored in the last minute by fouling Luke Daniels at the Meadow?

The Vale goalie was Joe Anyon.
The first villainy I remember was the hulking Coventry centre half George Curtis punching Mike Jones, our tiny winger, off the ball in front of the old paddock at Gay Meadow.
We have had some real villains, principally Graham French who got 3 years for GBH after shooting a man in a pub in Luton.
I also remember rumours about the late Albert Harley, but I was a kid when he was playing and can't remember what that were about. Albert was certainly pretty tasty on the pitch though.

My nomination would be for one who got his just desserts for his actions and that was George Yardley who at the time played for Tranmere. He spent the entire game until about the 80th minute chasing Alf Wood and every time Alf got on the ball Yardley was there tapping Alf's ankles. Alf kept his cool but he got tapped just as he was about to let one loose at the Wakeman end goal and Alf went down the ref waved play on and Alf got himself up chased Yardley all the way to the centre circle spun him round and kicked him in the Kidneys. Red card for Alf and got a one match ban however Yardley was out of the game for 3 seasons. I abhor violence on or off the pitch but in this case I make an exception, the ref was not protecting Alf from blatant fouling so Alf decided to deal out his own punishment.

And the one who shall be nameless who was convicted for stealing from the pockets of his team mates whilst they were on the pitch, manager's nephew at that.

Ex-councillor( thank God ), Charles Armstrong, who along with Fox, Nutting, Tony Page, David Banks, Graham Watson and Bob Mennell, did everything possible to prevent our move. I think the toilet blocks at the Greenhous Meadow should be named after some of the many "villains" named in this thread.

Surprised there is no mention of Joey Jones yet - I can't remember any specific incident, but he was always winding up Town fans (and vice versa) when he was at Wrexham
similar to Gary Bennett really

This is a great thready guys, and plenty of great info to work with on the nominations
Couple of questions for those of you with better memories than I
Joe Ross... I remember him being one of the most hated refs we have had over the years, can anyone pinpoint any specific moments or games...
Anyone think of other refs? Trevor Kettle springs to mind!
Ant thanks for all the stuff people remember from the "old days" (im 30 remember), sometuimes the zine can come across a little new school considering its made by lads who only started following the town atthe end of the John Bond era, and start of Fred Davies era
I personally love the old stories like that from 60's 70' and 80's and its always great to get them in print.

If I remember rightly Joe Ross refereed us at home to Hartlepool about 10 years ago and we lost 3-1. Think we were winning 1-0, before he went on to send two of our players off and give them a dodgy penalty.
