We drew 1-1 with a team away from home after playing most of the game with 10 men. Tamworth had a maximum of two chances and scraped a point out of it.
Yes, Tamworth are a poor side - but with 10 men away from home and leading 1-0 as far as i'm concerned you don't go attacking. Until Tamworth scored I was quite happy with the performance as Howie had not had a save to make,
Yes, I'm dissapointed with the result but talking about Quinn getting sacked etc... is complete tosh. It takes more than a couple of months to build a team, lets give them time.

Agree in theory, but time is a luxury that Quinn has very little of, he doesn't have 3 or 4 years to build a team, he has 2 seasons at the very most!
We should still be putting teams like Tamworth away, 10 men or no 10 men
We had enough quality on the pitch in the remaining 10 men to negate the numerical advantage if we played proper football and retained the ball well enough

We missed Tolley and O'Connor big time today, there was very little ball retention, although I do agree with a lot of what loyalshrew has said.

The point would have been good had chester and hereford not won - how can we say today was not all that bad when we go 2 more points away from the top as the season reaces half way - and after the lst 2 games very little indication that we can go on a run to make it up --- so then what - a scramble in to the last play off place - something i would see as a massive underacivement
and just to say know kwon on this board has said that quinny should go there was just a discusssion on some guy on the radio who did
I for one will not be ludded into thinking everything will be ok like last year only to fail badly - things must improve

Quinny needs more time but I would have thought professional footballers should know how to pass the ball to each other no matter whether they are in a new team or not. Some of the hoofs today (the two kick offs for example) were very embarrasing.

A poor kick off is a reason to boo the team ? I couldn't believe some of the comments I heard yesterday, or read on here.
I was told in all seriousness at Brum station that Tamworth are a pub team we should easily beat with 10 men. Our fans are being totally unrealistic, and sometimes I think the large away following only benefits the home team.

I would suggest naive tactics, indisciplined players, a lack of effort and is some cases a lack of ability are inhibiting our team. I think once you have sorted all those out you could consider blaming the fans. I would not have minded drawing 1-1 yesterday if we weren't awful, and we were dire, our football was shocking and the standard of our long ball game just makes me whince

The long ball doesn't work.... simple as that!
The 3 games where we have played reasonablly well were Woking Gravesend and hereford and if my memory serves me well, I think we passed the ball and not hoofed it.
The town have quality passers of the ball so why not bloody do it.
The problem with yesterday was clearly evident...... We never strung more than 2 passes together.

To be fair I can't recall seeing any posts asking for JQ to be sacked on B&A, just reports of one chap on Radio Shropshire...its silly to suggest sacking him...we have seen that the team can play and produce good performances...its just down to Quinn making sure that those high standards are met week in, week out...
Saying that though yesterdays result was awful, simply not good enough. I would more than expect a ten man Shrewsbury Town to hold a one nil lead against a team lying 19th in the league and on the back such bad form for 60 minutes, simple as...it was not a good or decent result at all...

We get called arrogant by a lot of other conference fans and maybe I'm starting to see where they're coming from.
Expecting to win away from home with 10 men against another team in the same league is pure arrogance. Once again I stand by what I said last night - total over reaction from the majority of the town faithful.
Let me put it this way, if someone had said to you before the game that Town were to play 75% of the game with 10 men - would you have taken a point? I know i would have jumped at it

But why on earth would you ask such a silly question? It would depend upon the score at the time we were reduced to 10 men...I fully expect a team sitting sixth in the league to defend a lead for 60 minutes versus a part-time team who are lying 19th and have lost the last five games on the bounce...why is that arrogant, its simply what I believe Shrewsbury should be capable of doing? I guess I just expect more from Shrewsbury Town, thats all...and yesterdays result was awful, simple as...
'- total over reaction from the majority of the town faithful.'...over reaction?

Didn't see the game so can't comment on that, but people on here do seem to expect a lot. I know that we can expect to be in the top three at least, but negativity doesn't help. The way some people are goin gon, you'd think we were bottom of the table.

I agree with LoyalShrew - I can see where the other conference fans are coming from now when they say we are arrogant. You can also hear it at games from our fans (the arrogance that is!). We need to get the mentallity that we are guarrenteed winners before we go into games just because the majority of fans think we are playing small clubs. How long have Hereford been in this division? I bet their fans thought they were the biggest team in the non-leauge when they were relegated

Evo, I don't think it's a matter of thinking we're guaranteed winners because other clubs are smaller
Expectations are high because of the players we have retained and the players we have signed
In my opinion the current squad is better than last season's squad and therefore should be performing much better than it is so far, couple that with (in my opinion) the generally awful standard of conference football and perhaps you can see where the frustration comes from
We have good reason to expect a high level of performance and a certain amount of superiority on the field against teams without our strength of squad or financial clout, that's only natural
At the moment though we don't seem to realise that we have to do more than turn up to beat the lesser sides, we have to out battle them as well as outplay them, if we win the battle our ability should give us an edge but too often we aren't winning the battle!

Cant agree more with Loyal shrew, I at first laughed at the suggestion that our fans are arrogant but you lot are starting to prove me wrong. You claim that we should be beating the likes of Tamworth and then berate the team for not taking Tamworth seriously, aren’t you contradicting yourselves? As for all this 'we can’t trust anyone anymore after last year' rubbish, JIMMY QUINN IS NOT KEVIN RATCLIFFE, please just have a little patience! You can moan all you like come May but I suspect we will be a little higher in the table by then. We’ve all seen the roots of better performances at Gravesend and against Hereford, why cant we just give it time and the results will come. Remember there are no GOOD teams in this league, everyone is inconsistent, everyone gets poor results against a team much lower than them, relax!

If you had told me before the game we were going to be up against it because of a lack of discipline, hoof aimless long balls for sixty minutes and not string more than two passes together before the game I would have not jumped at it! If that's good enough for you then fair play, enjoy it, cos it's becoming more regular, but I don't think we are playing well and Hereford aside we look very ordinary. How is that arrogant? It is manic depressive more like! I don't mind getting a point at Tamworth, but the performance, both individually, collectively and tactically was completely below what I expect from my football club. We don't have to win every game, but that display just wasn't good enough for me. Maybe I have been spoilt, maybe i am living in a blue and amber dream world of fifteen years ago, but I just can't see how that was remotely near a decent performance. A decent point, yes, away from home with ten men, but that shouldn't hide the fact we were utter cack!

Football is a strange game, you'll find in a lot of circumstances performances don't get the results deserved.
I remember playing Swindon a few years back and beating them 1-0 at their place after defending for 89 minutes of the game and hoofing the ball clear at all opportunites. Some fans remember that as one of the best performances they've seen town put in
It was quite obvious at 1-0 up we were getting rid of the ball at all opportunities - yes sometimes this meant pumping the football forward and battling, but that got it clear of the box. We reduced Tamworth to only 1 or 2 chances.
One week we hear that we need to battle in this division the next fans are saying we need to be playing pretty football - well which one is it?

Both!
You have to out battle the opposition to earn the right to play your pretty football

I think you might be in that dreamworld mate Some of us arnt used to that, the best ive seen us play is under Ratcliffe! (Hereford game came close though) But I remember when i started to watch town when Jake over. Now that was some blind faith, just because the guy played for us a few years back no one noticed we were playing crap till after 2 years in charge. I defy anyone to say we are playing worse now than then but you all gave him time. Similar situation as well, just relegated with some handy players.

'You claim that we should be beating the likes of Tamworth and then berate the team for not taking Tamworth seriously, aren’t you contradicting yourselves?'...Ermmm, how? I don't think the attitude of the supporters has anything to do with how the players prepare for and how they approach a game if thats what your getting at...

One week we hear that we need to battle in this division the next fans are saying we need to be playing pretty football - well which one is it? If we played the long ball game effectively then fair enough. If we played proper football then fair enough. Chester are tope by being long ball experts, it is death to watch, but it is effective. Hereford are up there by playing decent football, and outclassing teams below them, although obviously they came unstuck with us! I don't care how we play, what system, even which players but we have to play it well! Hoofing it anywhere for sixty minutes is not an effective long ball game, does not clear the danger and only kept us under pressure. A bit of possesion, some decent direct passes to the big man up front and I would be happy. But 70- yard punts that land thirty feet fromt he nearest blue shirt is not going to win anything and in my humble opinion made life difficlut for us because the ball just came back straight away. I don't want pretty football for the sake of it, nor do I want to see an entirely long ball display, but whatever we choose to do we need to be effective at it, and we not particularly effective at anything at the moment. Against Hereford we played direct long balls effectively, using Darby's strength, and we also kep possession well and outpassed them. That is utterly different from what we saw at Leigh and Tamworth I am not saying the end of the world is upon us, but surely if we play well we should leanr what we did right, then not throw all of it out of the window and resort to aimless hoofbury town rubbish? I would love nothing more than a battling 1-0 against Telford, I am not asking for Brazil 1970 here, but surely whatever system or style you choose you have to play it well!

You have a go at the players having the same opinion as you, that they should be able to walk all over the likes of Tamworth. If the town player should be professional and take all opposition seriously then surely the supporters should to.

Ive just got back. I spent the weekend in Shrewsbury, and not really had much chance to look at the reaction.
My feeling was of disbelief when he Cramb of, and replaced him with Rioch. Why just leave one up front? I know we were playing with ten men, but the tactics seemed to be hoof it up to the striker(s). With just one target there, we were unlikely to score again. Even when Duane hit the post, I am almost certain that if Luke or Colin had been on the pitch, they'd have sealed it on the rebound.
One striker is never enough. We finished at Exeter with four up front, and scored in the dying seconds.
Yesterday we played Conference football against a conference team. If we play like that again, we can expect no more than a draw against any opposition.

What I've noticed away from home is that we always play more negativly, almost with an 8 man defence, at home we attack and try to play football.
If we went out and played every away game like we play our home games, in a positive frame of mind believing that we are going to win.
What the players think when they arwe away (bar a few away games like gravesend, burton) is that 1 goal is scored and the game is over, they think they've won it.
we never work as hard away from home as we do at home.
that's why we're getting bad results.

I agree with Somerset that we should have kept two forwards on for longer although to be fair, Cramb was still on the pitch when Duane hit the post. If you remeber we got a corner from the rebound off the post and from that corner Cramb had a header that was in turn headed off the line. That was our last chance of the whole damn game bar the late penalty shout for handball.

Yeah I agree.
The seasons only half over, let's hope after christmas salop get the 20 wins in a row that we've been waiting for!
but a place in the play off's is good enough for me.
anywhere above 5th.

I defy anyone to say we are playing worse now than then but you all gave him time. Similar situation as well, just relegated with some handy players. Whats disappointing is that under Jake the football was poor. Under KR it was poor, very few of our talented youngsters developed. So far under our UEFA badged manager the football/tactics have again been poor.

I've had a time to think about yesterday's game and the season in general and maybe we should give a reality check to ourselves, we have no divine right to beat the part timers in this league like Tamworth, Leigh etc and we have to EARN the right to beat them, but teams like them will fight like cat and mouse against us, Tamworth hardly gave a millimetre of space to any Town player who had possession of the ball for both games we have had with them and in all fairness a return of four points against them isnt too bad, dont forget Barnet and Aldershot could also only scrape draws at the Lamb and people also seem to forget that Gravesend have beaten Exeter twice and Chester at their place (it doesnt matter if it was in the cup, it was still a all-conference clash)
We have to accept that we will NOT beat every part time side 4-0 at their place.
