Im a Wrexham fan that works in Shrewsbury.
Do you lot conider us as a derby ? I was talking about this the other day and its fair to say THE derby is Chester, then Cardiff, and perhaps Tranmere. Shrewbury isnt really considered a derby by the Wrexham ( or Chester fans ) ? At least not in the passionate sense ??
what do you thik ?

Wrexham fans always seem to get quite excited when we play them.
I'll admit that we're not Wrexham's biggest rivals but there is a definately a big rivalry between the two clubs.
Oh and looking at this from another point of view - my best mate is a big Cardiff fan and he says they don't give a monkeys about Wrexham.....

I suppose we are to you is what Hereford is to us (if that makes any sense). I.E wanting to be bigger rivals than we actullay are.
Not plastic though, Wrexham is just up the road and with the ole England/Wales thing going on then I would say it's our biggest game and your second.

I certanly wouldnt class us as plastic rivals.
I've been in town when Wrexham "fans" have been trashing the place.
You only have to think back to the last game we played at the Meadow, whereby police had to retrain Wrexham fans added to the fact there was a cracking atmosphere.
Oh and there is so much of a concern for crowd safety that the police cancelled a friendly a couple of seasons back.
Chester on the other hand, well thats not a rivalry, we just dislike the way we've been treated by Vaughn

i hate Rexham with a passion.
geographically, chester is closer but they are a nothing team whereas town and the dragons/robins/muppets have relatively glorious histories.
the atmosphere last time we played was very good for both games and the police numbers suggest it is a big derby game.

Depends on your age, in the 80's Shrewsbury V Wrexham games were the first fixture you looked for, we are great rivals due to spending so much time together in the same divisions.

"geographically, chester is closer but they are a nothing team whereas town and the dragons/robins/muppets have relatively glorious histories." hate to say but thats utter tosh, the Chester / Wrexham rivalry is legededary, fantastic games and while i hate Wrexham you cant pretend otherwise that if evry team has one true rival, Its Chester and Wrexham and not the Shrews

In all fairness I see Wxm as a bigge rival than I see Shrewsbury.
Probably because it's closer to me!!!
I enjoy playing Shrewsbury, play so well against them at home and then so crap at the Meadow!!!!!
I'm not too bothered about who hates who more than who, just looking forward to the wxm games next season and hopefully seeing a Chester side do well at the Meadow, although that probably won't happen in my lifetime and I'm only 23!!!

This debate will rage on and on. Wrexham v Chester is probably more passionate than any of the other 2 possible games, understandable due to the distance, history and nationality of the teams In last 2 seasons the Chester v Shrewsbury matches have been the first on the calendar i look for. Exciting and passionate (plus the players seem to pick up on it too). Next season, should Wrexham go down, that will be the first i look for, followed by Shrews, not because i dislike shrewsbury intensely but the reason for Shrews and Chesters recent rivalry is probably to do with both being L1/L2 teams following the same path to the conference. Good luck for saturday, will enjoy the games next season against your lot.

We don't really have that derby game that most teams have because of geography but the two teams that come the closest are walsall and wrexham followed at some considerable distance by hereford. haven't really ever considered the games against chester or kidderminster as derbies nor when we played crewe either (all similar distances).
I suppose it's partly down to when you first started supporting the town.

When I was aged 16 to 18, I lived just north of Ellesmere and that area then had as many Wrexham fans as Shrewsbury fans. As a result, I've always considered the main derby match.

The Wrexham "Derby" is our only chance at International football

Historically Chester has never really been a derby game for Town, neither has Crewe or Hereford for example.
Historically our rivals are Wrexham and Walsall, particularly the latter.

I think the Wrexham games that may hapen next season owe more to the fact they have fallen from grace and will have to suffer games against Shrewsbury and Chester....in the same season. Both hard fixtures for them and i would say that if i was a Wrexham fan,the thought of these fixtures would be a little in the :-[side.Wrexham are Town rivals.Imagine the fun IF Hereford get promoted. ;D ;D ;D

'I think the Wrexham games that may hapen next season owe more to the fact they have fallen from grace and will have to suffer games against Shrewsbury and Chester'
If it should come to that! I remember the eighties when bloody Wrexham were no where to be seen except re-applying for election to the football league on an anual basis, where as we were entertaining the likes of Chelsea, Newcastle, Blackburn. Back in the mid to late eighties the thought of playing Chester and Wrexham on a regular basis would of been a supreme fall from grace and now the tables of turned the other way and they are considering it a fall from grace playing us. Back then our rivals would of been most of the larger midlands clubs including Wolves, Birmingham and West Brom for a while. Can't believe I took those days for granted and thought they'd go on forever, the days when only getting a home draw against Birmingham City was a poor result.

"I remember the eighties when bloody Wrexham were no where to be seen" Between 80 and 83 Wrexham were in the old division two with us. Admittedly it soon went tits up though

Hang on you nrought at most 2,500 to salop.
we had a 4,000 capacity stand to fill.
Bearing in mind last time we played you our average home gate was 3,800 its little wonder we sold out the away end....
