Interesting how there are always different ways of saying the same thing which can result in completely polarised interpretations... From BBC site..."The future pope's studies at seminary were interrupted by World War II and his supporters say that his experiences under the Nazi regime convinced him that the church had to stand up for truth and freedom."

he 'joined' up in 1941 as most of young germans were forced to do and got out as soon as he could. His father was anti-fascist. Having said that he did state that there was a link between homosexuality and paedophiles. He has just been called 'Gods rotweiller' and the 'Panzer Pope' by CH4 news

An interesting choice and colourful background Benedict 16th is an interesting name to choose for the Papacy, the last time it was used was during WW1 the last time the world was in crisis. An arch Conservative of Bavarian stock will mean the liberal progressive cancer may indeed be halted with him already denouncing homosexuality, abortion and women priests. Who knows it may set a worldwide precedent of this way of thinking

failed to also mention that he went AWOL during the second world war, refused to join the nazi government and was anti-facist.
However i do agree that it looks like the RC Church is trying to maintain the status quo.
Bad news for gays, bad news for the aid pandemic and bad news for the modernisers.

AIDS is more prevelent among hetrosexuals than it is amongst homosexuals. Didn't realise that having sex with a member of the opposit sex was unnatual
