The focus at the moment is still very much on this season. Looking forward however we need to lift the mood and try to find some positives for next season. For me the appointment of Liam Dooley as the new CEO is a massive positive and will make a big difference especially off the field in respect of supporter engagement. In the short time he has been with us he has already made a difference and as long as he is allowed to do his job I expect big things from him. He is young with lots of ideas and has really been the only plus signing for us this season. I also understand that after the Ladies match on the Sunday after our final league game and a short period of private rental the pitch is to be dug up and completely relaid. For me this would be the ideal time to widen the pitch. Ive always enjoyed watching the town with wide players cutting in from the flanks. Dont think we have had a single penalty since Shaun Whalley left the club. I understand tho that modern day tactics suit the narrow pitch. Yawn. Getting volunteers into the club to help with Stadium maintenance is also a positive and will save the club money as well as giving supporters a sense of belonging. Anyone else trying to look on the bright side.

I seem to spend my whole Shrewsbury experience trying to look on the bright side! I do agree with your post though.

Didn’t we have a penalty at Pride Park ?
Anyway, I agree with your sentiments. We have to hope the whole club looks better going forward then it’s current state of malaise

We were awarded penalties at Forest Green in the EFL Trophy and in the league match at home against Derby.
Of course we missed both.

Next season I shall celebrate 50 years following the Town on a regular basis, I'm even thinking of booking a hospitality package for the occasion! Football is a funny old game, you never know what's round the corner, fingers crossed for next season, and beyond.

Surely we’re the only team in the football league not to score a penalty all season? Dreadful.
I terms of positives we’ve hopefully got a good midfield pairing for next season in Price and Winchester.

Agree with the two in the opening post, Dooley looks to be a good find and hopefully a widened pitch will take us away from the god awful football we have witnessed in recent seasons.
Assuming we stay up and Hurst stays, it will be good to go into next season fully prepared and not to have to worry about the off the field turmoil like last season. Plus the simple fact that we will go into pre-season with an experience manager is a bonus

If we are looking forward to having a midfield pairing of Price and Winchester we really are f.cked . We must do better otherwise it’s going to be another season of struggle and disappointment . It all comes down to money doesn’t it and if it has to be these two then so be it . Sorry , my opinion but feel free to disagree . I’m hoping Hurst can pull a few new signings out of the bag which will excite us . Maybe widening the pitch and playing wingers to get behind the defence . We will see but we have had a surfeit of mediocre players who just about warrant League 1 status ; and some that are plainly not up to the job. First off , secure our League 1 status against Bolton , Charlton and Leyton Orient . I wouldn’t be at all surprised if we get something at Bolton , it’s the sort of mad thing Town do just to get the blood pressure up .😉😂😂

Been harping on about widening the pitch for ages....the only time we've ever done anything is when the pitch has been wider(in the last 10/12yrs)the turner and Mellon, and Hurst seasons.....granted 2 were in league 2.....but the Hurst season, made me proud to be a Shrewsbury fan...it was fantastic.....knowing that any team coming to the meadow,we're in for a seriously hard time......now,all I see is middle of the pitch, boring football, with fitness levels leaving a lot to be desired!!!🤦🤦🤦

Biggest positive for me is we can hope to see high intensity football, a back 4, and the potential for entertaining wingers. If PH is given what he wants/ needs the football should be good to watch at times at the very least. Just hope that it’s in league one.

The possibility of a takeover and some positive, meaningful investment....? In the absence of which, Mr Hurst seeing the job through!

Definitely widen the pitch. The narrow pitch may suit modern tactics, but my goodness they are dull to watch and overwhelmingly negative. They haven’t even helped our goals against tally so what was the point? And the expanse of unused turf was frankly embarrassing.
When Hurst returned there was a brief buzz around but he seems to have caught the gloom bug very quickly this time. He will have a much bigger task than in 2017 I reckon.
However…. I will be following the close season avidly as ever and looking for positive signs in the pre-season friendlies.

Hurst likes wingers so I think we may well see the pitch widened in the summer.
A narrow pitch is crap, but in fairness it did suit our 5-3-2 system with random centre backs and centre midfielders shoe-horned in to the wing back positions every week.

Hurst got in the maximum loan signings, signed nsiala from Hartlepool for £25000,got Rodman in on a free,Nolan for next to nowt,Bolton from Gateshead, can't think of anymore......so it can be done on the cheap🤷🤷🤷

Assuming we are not relegated, my positives are short journeys to Stockport and Wrexham plus the possibility of other local (to me) trips to Crewe, Stoke, Huddersfield or Sheffield.

We are one of 6 not to score one Championship - Blackburn and Sheff Wed League one - town, Reading, Fleetwood League two - Colchester Fleetwood and Sheff Wed haven't been given any either. The others have. Colchester have had 3 and missed them all!

Bayliss probably won't be with us so we won't need to read Chirky shoehorning in the fact he doesn't rate him on three separate threads a day.
