16th v 17th
Accrington's current form isn't great, they won their last game 2-1 (home v Wimbledon) but their last win before that was back on December 29th. Their away form isn't too good, they do carry a goal threat with 39 goals scored this season but they have also conceded 43 goals. Their top scorer, Colby Bishop, has 10 goals.
In the January window they brought in young striker Benny Ashley-Seal, a prolific scorer in under 23 football, from Wolves on loan and ex Town midfielder Bobby Grant from Wrexham on loan. In addition to Grant, facing their former clubs are Jordan Clark for Accrington and Omar Beckles for Town.
It's good to see that Billy Kee, who recently retired from professional football aged 29 due to mental health issues, has now signed for Coalville Town.
They didn't play on Saturday as they were due to play Bury, John Coleman was watching our game v The Franchise.
The man in charge is Ollie Yates who has been on the EFL list for a few seasons now. He's fond of a card with 91 yellows and 7 reds shown so far this season in 27 games. He hasn't taken charge of one of our games this season, last season he was in charge of the 0-0 home draw v Blackpool and the 0-2 home defeat v Portsmouth.
Going into back to back home games against teams below us in the table I think a decent return would be four points. If we can beat Accrington and achieve that it may settle some nerves a bit but an extension of our win less run to nine games will probably do just the opposite, particularly with tough games against Portsmouth and Doncaster to follow next.
Norburn, Whalley and Vela are all unavailable, so it will be probably be the same squad that was available for the MK Dons game.

with walker's fitness been assessed. as you say tvor we will probably have the same line up who failed to impress. i hope they have worked with the midfield on there distribution as it was dire. MKDons away form was poor as well and we struggled against them, we badly need a win and a much better performance in the league.

And this time, I'm not so confident that Tranmere will lose. Bristol Rovers have been on a dreadful run ever since Coughlin left them.
13 games without a win.

Heavy snow at the moment which will hopefully continue over the next couple of days meaning a postponement and a much needed rest for our very tired and overworked players.

Same in Shrewsbury, though it is forecast to snow on and off tonight and tomorrow.
Would take something mad to get it called off and unless there is heavy snow should be issues with pitch being frozen.

maybe we could get a load of fans in and shovel what little snow we get onto the pitch in an attempt to get the game off ;-)

We could do with the Tranmere pitch being waterlogged. After the Bristol game, 5 of their next 6 games are away from home, so I don't want them going into that run with the encouragement of 3 points on Tuesday. And Bristol Rovers are on a dreadful run - even worse than ours!

www.accringtonstanley.co.uk/news/2020/february/shrewsbury-v-stanley/John Coleman on the Town team. " Shrewsbury have good players, we have seen that against Liverpool in the FA Cup.
“They have got players who can hurt you and we have to come up with a way to counter that and to defend that and to attack where we feel we can exploit the areas to score goals." John Coleman about Accrington, the team one place and two points worse off than us. “ You can’t get lulled into a false sense of security, there is a lot of hard work to be done if we are going to remain in League One next season and that’s at the forefront of our minds and every point we earn is going to be crucial.”

They understand how to get results and have done that well recently 🤔 Clearly the fatigue of playing 3 Tuesdays in January has taken its toll on their squad! They'll have been grateful to Bury for giving them a free Saturday last weekend.

Hoping for a higher quality game than Saturday’s.
I agree we haven’t had much entertainment but Saturday was better than most in that both teams attacked and either could have won. Neither really deserved to though, such was the level of ineptitude shown at times by both teams. My belief that the overall standard of League 1 is higher than it used to be was a bit shaken by that match. MK’s attempts to play out from the back were a triumph of hope over ability and should have seen them thrashed out of sight. Still, it was amusing to see them scrambling.
The chances of better tonight seem slim, with the wind still blowing and the pitch taking another battering and, if our energy levels were low on Saturday, they’re unlikely to be any higher tonight. We need a win and any win will do. Too much gloom in the air.

If we get a crowd of over 4,500 tonight I'll be surprised...
Agreed that there's too much gloom in the very cold air.

It really doesn't matter who the opposition are tonight or either their current form. State of the season, weather, pitch conditions and current energy levels demand a tight midfield in order to control more of the ball and reduce required covering sprints, plus simple paint-by-numbers-reduce-the-options attack play. 3-5-2 or narrow 4-4-2 2 up front (Udoh and Cummings to start with) No more than 10 yards between them. Ball does not leave the ground. Win it, spin it, then bin it. Don't even bother with the final 20 yards of the pitch (to save legs).
Bucket of ice-cold water on the sideline to be applied to anyone caught switching off in the vicinity of Bobby Grant. (likely recipients Goss, Williams, or Beckles) Manager to pour bucket over his own head if he goes with three strikers and one of them does nothing except confuse the other two and leave gaps in midfield.

I mean I know we're poor at the minute but we're not that poor, surely we're due. I will say this though, the shine has most certainly been taken off the season. I'll be watching tonight as I always do but it's all a bit meh. Suspect we'll see a poor attendance tonight. Suspect that might be the case going forward now from here until May (unless we pull a rabbit out of the hat and go on some mad run). Just feels as though we're running down time on the season now. Already!! In February!! s**te state of affairs...

I sometimes think some people would prefer that (genuinely - and I'm not calling you out here). I could understand it too, up to a point. As for the crowd, well I just got back from walking the dog amidst the debris and falling branches and was mulling over my outfit for the evening - how many pairs of socks, which hat might be thick enough etc. Suffice to say I wouldn't be too upset if the game somehow got called off. With Accrington unlikely to bring a three figure away following, anything above 4,000 will be ok.

It could be worse. We are usually playing Fleetwood away in January or February on days/evenings like this.
