'The end of an era. Nicholas Parsons was such a lovely man - and so versatile: actor, entertainer, writer, TV star & radio host without equal, but for me, most of all, friend. I knew him for more than 50 years: he was simply the best. Thinking of his wonderful wife Annie & family' - Gyles Brandreth.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-51278023Broadcaster Andrew Neil added: "So sad to learn of the death of Nicholas Parsons, though at 96 it was a pretty impressive innings. "A more friendly, generous, polite and solicitous person you could not hope to meet." RIP

We saw him live two or three years ago in Tenbury Wells and it really was an excellent evening. Yet again another great gone.

Oh, I'm so sorry to read of this. He seemed like he could go on being his intelligent, immaculate self forever. A lovely man in real life too, by all accounts.
I remember listening to Just A Minute with my uncle when I was a kid - Kenneth Williams, Clement Freud, Derek Nimmo and all. It was a lovely, gentle, funny programme and still is. He's irreplaceable but I hope the show continues.

"and now, from Norwich, it's the quiz of the week."
I'm not only sad to hear of his passing but why he was never knighted will remain a mystery and a sad reflection of our "honours" system.

Saw him in Birmingham a few years ago narrating The Rocky Horror show in stockings and suspenders. He stole the show with his dry sense of humour. A lot of strings to his bow. RIP.

He was on Richard Herring's RHLSTP podcast just last summer. Worth a listen. pca.st/X8Sj

He was a true great, dry sense of humour and the ability to feed other comedians. In the early days it was Arthur Haynes, on just a minute he used to spark Kenneth Williams to his glorious best, then Paul Merton. You cpuld tell the difference he made, Paul Merton just seems to be going through the motions on Have I got News for You, except for the odd spark with Ian Hislop.

True, he did all the right things, charity work, King Rat and that. We will never know if he may have been offered bigger gongs than he got (CBE) and refused them.
