so are there any taxi firms that don't rip you off and make up fares? And also why is it when you phone up that its always an hour at least before one can come?

Dont all taxis have meters now? Shouldnt be possible to scam anyone.
I used to work for winsor taxis ( 233456 ) many years ago when i was at college and until about half way through my nurse training. Great fun.

I used to use Vincents. Their charges ranged from £11 to £14 to get to Middletown and their punctuality was appalling.

I cant believe, you complaining about taxi's it costs me £3 before i have even gone anywhere, and then as ive usually just stumbled out of a club they have some ridiculous scale of payment and its ends up costing me £7-9 to get home and 3-4 minute journey at the most! an actual joke, although trying to get a taix in shrewsbury and actually having taxis where u want them and willing to take u home rather than having a million other jobs to go to is a plus

Yes but most us taxi drivers know all the scams and if I ever took to 1 1/2 miles past montford bridge when it was booked only to montford bridge I WOULD have charged an extra 2 quid (about 7.50) just because you were taking the pi@@.You'll get away with it with either new or old taxi drivers usually.

After a drunken argument with the cowboy taxi firm, I decided to walk the 12 miles home in the rain ..... ....I was very, very drunk...

I just walk back to Bayston Hill these days with a food stop at the BP.
I remember being at my mates house 200 yards up the road from Comets having a drink and phoning for a taxi at midnight and was told there was none to 3am!!!
So I finished my drink walked down the road and was then told 5 mins!!!
I used to work for Vincents on the desk and Taxi drivers are the biggest crooks out there, and they are not scared of admitting it

You lot don't know you're born. To take a taxi from our house to Arlanda airport which is 15 mins away costs about 25 quid, 35 if the local firm can't do it. All the taxis here are Mercs and suchlike, you can pay by credit card and stuff like that but it costs an absolute fortune.

Yes afraid the prices do seem to vary a little adn in this day and age of meters and computers this should be sorted. However most pick ups and drop offs are categorised into areas to calculate the price and therefore its still dowm to interpretation as to which are each fall into. How you can complain that they increase prices at christmans and new year is beyond me though. People like Skinner deserve a bloody medal when you consider the crap that these drivers have to put up with. Perhaps you should get you own pride and joy insured and plated adn not charge any extra. You wont be short of customers, in fact you would have more work than you could handle but bet you would only do it once. Also would you want to give up your christmasn eve, christmas day, boxing day, new years day etc as they do?

Simple mistake. To much to ask for you to say Lloyds Pub please. Might have been 9pm, never heard of service tills then. Also if you treat the inside of cars as you suggest then you deserve to be charged accordingly. Before you ask, no i am not a local taxi driver.

You openly admit that you try to con the driver about your destination and then complain when they try to charge you for where you went. Let me think, any logic in that, erm thats a no then.

I haven't got a problem with taxis here to be fair. It used to cost the same amount for Euston station - Hammersmith (about 3/4 miles) at midnight as it does for Shrewsbury - Halfway House (about 12 miles).

I know of a driver who lives in France! He flies into Bristol airport Monday morning works the five day shifts, and then flies home for the weekend. He owns both properties, Bristol and France, and apparantly the fares down there are three to four times higher than here.

Let me think, any logic in that, erm thats a no then. lol, keep taking the happy pills. I'm always happy to bung the driver a quid or two when the mileage is worked out. It's just that the nearest other villages are Ensdon and Broomfields, and that bumps the fare up to the stupid figure I quoted. Even though I am the Shrewsbury side of these places I get charged the higher fare. Its called compromise.

After a particularly wet Christmas party last year I slipped on some ice at the station and met the pavement, ending up unconscious in hospital. Unaware that I was a high class drunk as opposed to a standard one, I was carted off to the drink tank at the hospital and then booted out when i came round. Unable to get a train home I had to get the expensive train to the airport and then a taxi from there home. Total cost of journey home amountd to about 80 quid. Add to that the loss of income through concussion, and it was a dear do. I could have sat at home drinking champagne, had a shorter lasting headache and still have been a few quid up.
