Trains:
No details on trainline at the moment, but when You get to Manchester Piccaddilly, you take the Metrolink to Bury, assuming it's running. Cost is £3.10 return to piccaddilly. Normally runs every 6/12 minutes.
Note: trains normally about every hour from Shrewsbury, approx. journey time 1hr 30 mins (I'm a regular on that route)

No details on trainline.com at present, good to see they give you plenty of time to sort it out I went to Northwich last season by train on new years day so not sure whether they run on boxing day Anyone know of where to find out whether the metrolink is running from Manchester

As HerefordShrew advises, can't imagine you'll get a train - Central Trains definitely don't operate any trains on Xmas Day, Boxing Day or New Years Day (sometimes the other 362 days are a bit iffy as well, as my "missing" train that was on time/10 mins late/cancelled as we don't know where it is, as I was trying to get back from Salop yesterday demonstrated )

Anyone know of where to find out whether the metrolink is running from Manchester Trains to Manchester may be as rare as turkeys on Boxing Day, but if you do manage it, then Metrolink are running a 'Special Service' between 9am and 8pm. (although I doubt that this means the passengers will be treated especially well) The number for GMPTE Traveline is 0870 608 2 608 but they are closed from 6pm on Christmas Eve

I do Gay Meadow to Altrincham in 80 minutes and Bury is about 20 miles further - so it wont take much longer than 90 minutes.
That's assuming the M60 isn't blocked by people trying to get to the Trafford Centre.

Unless you disguise two litre bottles of coke with 1 litre coke / 1 litre voddy as I did at Southend that beautiful penultimate game of season three years ago. Where there's a will there's a way

I still laugh when one of the Blakemore brothers sneaked a can of Carling on the coach to a friendly at Hereford, he took a few sips out of it before Garry Edwards came over to collect the money, he hid it in Dan Francis's bag and Carling spilt all over the place Seriously, as much as I think the rule sucks, you will be banned from Smithy's coaches for a long time if you take alcohol on board.

It's not just Smithy's rule, it is the law, so he can't risk getting caught. One of the reasons I don't go on the coach any more
