I looking forward to Saturday now. Although we seam to have done some good work in the transfer market I can not see where the goals will come from. but with a decent crowd behind them hopefully there will be some nice surprises. Lets get the season off to a great.

If we get anything from this game it's a bonus. Tough, tough start.

I think we will still bring in another forward, rumoured to be Campbell.
I also think Morrison and fey can strike up a decent partnership. Whalley has also had a decent pre season.
Saturday will be tough but who knows what this team is capable of. What's important is that everyone remembers its just one game. We have injuries to key players and have a lot of new players so might take time before we see this squad reach there potential. Hopefully the pitchforks don't get dusted off before that happens.

I will be happy so long as Ricketts doesn't laugh and joke with his old pal Jackett.

I’m really looking forward to it.
No “wow” signings (how often do we get them though?) but I feel we have recruited well.
We saw under Hurst, have a solid defence in this league and it can take you far. On paper, our defence looks very solid.
However, Ricketts is still an unknown with only 1 year as a manager under his belt. Who knows how he will do but I think this could be an exciting season for us.

Two more days of pre-season optimism!! Before reality kicks in!! Enjoying it whilst I can... Agree with some of what's been said on here already. For sure it is a tought start to things. I thought things were looking good to start off with this preseason when looking to the moves we have made defensively but then for me things seemed to tail off a tad. So whilst I reckon we might be hard to score against; the worry, as it seemingly always is, is at the other end. I do think Morrison will be an asset big time. I'm sure he will be more than capable of chipping in with a goal or two but more importantly I think he will be able to bring others into the game. Its just whether he has the bodies around him to make that happen. Fey is Fey and I think we got a good'un there. In the middle of the park...dunno. Just hope Edwards can step up. And who knows how we'll use Whalley and Eisa but they look too good to ignore looking to their preseasons. I really like the look of the defence. I think the front two have the potential to cause others issues. I'm a tad worried about the midfield. I don't know how we may look to accomadate two of our most existing and attack minded players. I think thats sums it up for me. So it'll a bit up in the air to be honest, not sure what to expect. Very much looking forward to the start of the season and seeing how we do though... Double header too come Saturday, Kickers start off too... Come on Town!! Auf die Blaue!!

I see Portsmouth have signed Marquis from Doncaster. A very decent striker at this level and making them an even more realistic promotion contender. I wonder where that leaves Brett Pitman who we have been linked with in the past?

Double header too come Saturday, Kickers start off too... Come on Town!! Auf die Blaue!! if teams cancel out our wing backs, we saw it for periods against Villa and the first half against Dundee , then we have two options route one or play it through the midfield, whilst indivudually i think we have some reasonable midfield players , they dont seem to be playing as a unit( this takes time) and we dont have a midfield general. it will be intresting to see how that works out. Portsmouth have had a number of injuries i think they may play 4.4.2 and then it will be wing backs against wingers.kenny Jackett is an experince and astute tactical manager and i am sure he will have a plan to nullify town. we are playing a team who will probably be up there in the promotion race so i think this will be a tough game and a usefull bench mark for town Bryn Morris is injured but Bolton will have a point to prove.

I think there are definitely, in the words of Ian Drury, reasons to be cheerful or at least optimistic about the coming season. A number of experienced and wily additions to the squad which has given us (hopefully) a defensively solid platform to build from and a bit more savviness up front. We've had a couple of exciting younger new players added to the squad who potentially add a bit more dynamism and spark and we've got a number of players from last year who in pre-season, look sharp and raring to go. Admittedly, midfield looks a bit light at the moment however, we've got a couple of key players to come back from injuries/niggles so hopefully this will improve. The opening game is going to be tough against one of the favourites for promotion and it will take a bit of time for the squad to gel and get used to playing with one another in what will be a new formation for a number of them and certainly in a competitive match. So win, lose or draw on Saturday, I for one won't read too much into a the game, we won't have a real indication as to how our season is likely to shape up until after 10+ games so my current optimism and anticipation for the new season won't be tempered......for a while at least COYB

Ricketts did a fair bit of coaching with jackett. I suspect he'll know a few tricks before they happen

Well well well...
Is it that time again? Too soon for me.
I could easily do another month of 'Close Season'. I love the close season in recent years. Every day's going to be like a Sunday till we lose in the play offs.
The last 11 seasons have been like Déjà vu. A flipin' 'mare!
Every fu..flippin' season it's the same.
When you get to a certain age. 'Experienced'. You don't get excited for new seasons anymore...
You can flipin' hope it's your year. At the twelfth time of asking. Pray.
But, when you've seen it all before...new signings you've barely heard of etc You don't get excited..
We've sold 2500 season tickets. We're looking to touch 6000 on Saturday.
Barrow are a bogey side. It's a banana skin..
Morrissey surely had us in mind when he penned Everyday Is Like A Sunday? The strange dust on your face from Kronospan in Chirk?
Déjà vu season for us
Shrews prediction:- Graham Barrow to be caretaker manager by late October
