Well, after watching pompey v Sunderland in the plays offs, I'm sure Shrewsbury won't be shaking in there shoes either, because pompey were s**t. we'll see next week

A mixed bag. Plenty there to work with, the marauding centre halves will hopefully create space to create more chances, because we won’t score many based on yesterday or pre season generally. Giles looks a find & seeing Edwards getting high into the box a few times is encouraging because that run from the midfield 3 is what will really make these wing backs work imo. An extra body for a cross causes havoc. Obviously nice to see Morison & Fejiri link up so well, but credit to Beckles because he played the perfect ball for someone like Morison at the back post.
We also tired and gave chances away at the end, hardly touched the ball for the opening few minutes & generally found ourselves outpaced in midfield... Vincelot has not looked the best in these friendlies & it worries me we could suffer badly if Norburn is out until September. Oh & Dundee were the first team to try & succeed (for quite a bit) to put their wingers so far forward that Giles & Love didn’t know whether to stick or twist.
Massive learning curve. Plenty of hope though. Just what you want from a friendly!

How about basing themselves in the car park.... say at Dobbies!!🤔 Yes! Then we'll be free to enjoy the game just how any self respecting Shrewsbury fan would desire - in stony silence! West stand, barring blocks 18/19, has always been quiet compared to South Stand so getting the drum there might help. Standing area has definitely made S.stand a lot more vocal however.

acorrding to the Dundee fans forum most of the players who started were the second string. check out the line up for Dundee Utd , I think you'll find that they started with high squad numbers and finished with mostly 1-11 fair enough i mentioned that based on what the Dundee forum said

" dundee were the first team to try & succeed (for quite a bit) to put their wingers so far forward that Giles & Love didn’t know whether to stick or twist. Massive learning curve. Plenty of hope though. Just what you want from a friendly!" Dundee playing high up the park and in the main for the first half having wingers who hardly dropped deeper than the half way line caused the wing backs a real dilemma go past them and a quick counter attack and there is all that space to run into, if you wont to counter that then the defence need to play higher up the park and run the risk of of having a ball put behind them, Villa expoloited the spaces and better teams will. i dont know how good Porstmouth are but Kenny Jackett is an astute tactical manager and it will be intresting to see what strategy he will use to nuliffy the wing backs. i think with both Vincelot and Walker it is about confidence my main concern for Vincelot is the lack of physicality, which is a problem when he is the holding mifielder. as for the midfield Edwards was more mobile we have to be pragmatic about his levels of fitness as he has only recently returned to full training and he is playing a lot sooner than i thought he would be. either Walker or Mc Cormick will need to be the link player to the forwards and be the springboard for attacks and charging runs especially if the wing backs are unable to break forward.

Whilst I'm not a fan of a drum as I'm a traditionalist in the sense of not needing 'extras' to make an atmosphere, its growing on me knowing how much it p**ses off some of the miserable buggers we have supporting us. decent fans dont need a drum its a bit like one of those bible bashers who stand in the street p**sing people off with a megaphone All credit to the Dundee United fans their singing was pretty impressive for almost the full 90 mins.

Obviously it will be a tricky opening match against Portsmouth (who would be my favourite to be champions this coming season) but I saw a lot of encouraging signs yesterday. The sight of a reasonably fit Edwards is like having a new player, I thought McCormick looked good (especially first half) and we played more to Morrison's strength. I think Ricketts deserves credit for identifying the way he wants the team to play and bringing in couple of decent defenders. No doubt Beckles and Whalley will get their chances to get into the first team and there is plenty of experience in the squad. It seems to me we are in a much better place than we were a year ago even given the fact that Norburn and Laurent are currently injured. Last season was not an enjoyable one but lets surprise ourselves and start the new one with an open mind and all get behind the manager and his squad.

Guess we'll have to wait and see what the extent of the injury was/is.

All credit to the Dundee United fans their singing was pretty impressive for almost the full 90 mins. Did they have a drum though? I was in block 1 and the only drum I heard was from the South Stand. The singing seemed to be mainly orchestrated by someone walking up and down in front of their fans.

There is a post on Facebook (not from the club) that Pierre is injured - anyone know if it is true ? Aye he came off limping end of the game... Not sure if out for a while or just a precaution... Haven't heard an official update from the club beckles came on and looked very good. Set up the winning goal and solid at the back.

Beckles has looked decent in preseason and I’ve no qualms if he starts on the left of our back three. This could be a breakout season for him.

I go to quite a few away games throughout the season and the atmosphere is always better ( especially with the drum, and I am 77 ) amongst the fantastic away fans than it is at home. I think I probably enjoy the away games more than the home games to be honest as it actually 'feels' like we are all for one and one for all. Went to Villa and Dundee Utd games and we looked good in patches so hopefully this season will be much better than last.

Was sat in Block 6 this afternoon and thank God I shall be back in Block 14 next Saturday! That bloody drum wants jettisoning as far away as possible. Can only say what a bloody noise. How anyone sits in the South Stand of more mature years I do not know and this comes from a 59 and 10/12ths years of age season ticket holder! Are you Northwestman in disguise? Personally prefer the atmosphere created by the drum.... Having moved from 14 when SS started enjoy the game much more than the sterile atmosphere in block 14 where everyone seemed to moan allot still each to there own (I'm 65 and have moved even nearer the drum this year 👍)

Drums should not be allowed in football grounds. If you can't make enough noise as fans, why bother drowning what noise you are generating with a bloody drum.

Hard to know quite how good Dundee are given the generally rancid quality of club and international football north of the border, but a pleasing win to give a bit of confidence going into Saturday.

I would think that Northwestman is of more mature years than I. Must be retired for all the hours he puts on here. Anyway I would agree that a drum creates an atmosphere if the guy playing it has any sense of rhythm but on the basis of what I had to endure it would suggest that he would be the best act at the deaf and dumb club where he or her can be truly appreciated
