Sobering thought.
Whatever division we're in next season and whatever problems we face, at least we know that our club will be financially sound and able to compete. That's a credit to Roland.

Let me be the first............ Roland has been holding this club back for years with his lack of ambition. Difference is I’m only saying it sarcastically, not like a few of our “supporters” who actually believe such rubbish.

Whilst I 100% agree it’s great to have a financially sound club and not to have to worry about these things, I do wonder how that actually benefits us in terms of league position. Clubs who are all over the place financially offer players better wages then we can, we stay within our boundaries which means we miss out on signings. I’m not saying we should go beyond our restraints, but that the EFL really should be doing something about it. You can almost gaurentee Coventry offered Ogogo more money there then he was on here, yet they might not even have a stadium to play in next season. Whilst we struggled to improve our squad last January, Blackburn went out and signed the likes of Armstrong on big money to beat us to promotion despite being in millions and millions worth of debt. Just something which really bugs me. Bury splashed out big wages and couple of seasons ago and went down, then the buckets came out again and they’re in turmoil, BUT this time in a few months they could be in the division above us, when we’re financially sound, none of which seems fair, albeit if we do go down it’s absolutely our fault and our fault only.

Think you’ve hit the nail on the head with the comment.... “but the EFL really should be doing something about it”. That is the big problem here that the spineless b......ds do nothing about it. Needs positive action but they just ain’t doing it, they need to hit all the clubs spending over their budget with points deductions till clubs realise it’s just not worth it.

The way that BBC article reads it appears that the Port Vale owner has just done this in response to protests made against him from fans.

Vale have been flirting with the financial problems for years. So many threads on B&A and our FB routinely slag Roland regarding lack of ambition etc....£££££....I sooner have a local committed Chair like him who has the club at his heart and has priority for long term benefit than these chancers that are running clubs up and down the leagues.
So much money in todays game, yet it stays at the top, like it does in wider society, yet the game is supposed to be a "Pyramid". Now that Roland is a "senior" gentleman, not for the 1st time, I wonder who would take over after him, and how it effects the club. STFC 1886.

WOW!! Mega money heading to Burslem - Kevin Shanahan net worth Accounts 2018 Cash £2,158,012.00 Net Worth £1,437,769.00 I think that's a little unfair. They seem to have built a good, profitable business, employing 350 people. The cash figure you quote is the company's, not theirs, but they seem to be taking out generous salaries and dividends, so who knows what they might have privately? Vale were going cheap, as we know, and they've bought the ground as well. Are they rich enough to own a financially struggling football club? Maybe, maybe not - either way I think they must be crazy.

By their own admission they've paid over the odds for Port Vale and Vale Park, but they are clearly real fans of the club so they're in a much better position to now build and go forward. The indications are they want to keep John Askey and there is certainly the potential there for much better things if they can get it right.

Shame they didn't have Shropshire connections, the sort of people Roland might have offloaded to, they would have got a proper club for their money too.

They certainly seem the right sort of folks to run a club on first impressions, the sort I would hope RW would look to sell Town to.

I note that Askey worked with their CEO Colin Garlick when they were together at Macclesfield.

I'm attempting to have fibre installed to my property...but that's another story.
Anyway, an Openreach guy came to the house this morning to do some external work. I got talking to him and it turned out he was a long time Port Vale fan. He said that there was a real sense of optimism since the take over and that demand for season tickets was also looking good.
He's also been impressed with John Askey since he came to the club. He said that Askey has really been getting the best out of the squad and that certain players have now really started putting in a shift.
The talk is that Askey is keen to play 433 next season with Tom Pope being a key figure up front.
We had a really good chat about lower league football and he was very complimentary about our club and the way that it is managed.

Very pleased for JA. He went to Vale on a very short term contract til the end of the season to prove himself. He now has three years to rebuild the club with new owners who obviously care for the club. Good luck to him.

So that's both our recent ex-Managers nicely sorted out with new contracts elsewhere. Mellon doing pretty well at Tranmere too. No one has ended up on the scrapheap.
