I’m thinking in terms of form. Leicester appear to be on the up while United are treading water at best. Let’s revisit this at the end of the season. No question about that. I don't expect much from United but the general criticism of them is overdone (as it always is). Just because they're so far behind City and Liverpool doesn't mean they're behind the rest of the PL. I dare say some might now be naughtily fancying Spurs for relegation after their shellacking by Bayern last night. I believe they have a worse record than United in 2019. I’ve been fond of United since the Busby era and have lived in Trafford since 1970, so most of my family are fans and some of them OT season ticket holders. It’s nice to pull their legs when things aren’t going as they expect though.

I quite like Spurs but I was almost willing Bayern to get another towards the end last night. It was just quite funny for non-Spurs fans. Can't wait to start enjoying City and Liverpool's future wobbles - might be a long wait but they'll come.

I didn’t realise United were playing tonight until a bunch of United fans got on the train in Amsterdam. Hoping it will be on Dutch TV.
Feyenoord also playing, one of their fans sitting opposite us got through 4 cans of Heineken in the 30 minutes before we left the train.

I dont think Leicester are too far behind, they look good at the moment You're surely not suggesting that Leicester are close to City/Liverpool? They're looking good to break the top 6 yes, but miles from being top 2. so near and yet so far shame we dont have VAR in the prem to prevent desperate last minute penalty dives oh wait a minute...never mind

Norwich beat City but no one thinks that makes then title contenders. We do have VAR in the Prem, but the decision wasn't overruled.

I agree that the penalty was bought (not right, but all strikers go down in the box under 'contact' these days) but we do have VAR and VAR chose to uphold the ref's decision.

Strange how opinions vary on the penalty. To a man on Sky, at the time, all said definitely penalty but Shearer and Murphy on MOTD said not and that's the so called experts and all ex Pro.

Yeah, I guess Albrighton got nothing on the ball and made 'contact', although hardly enough to fell an opposing player. But then maybe that's enough in the modern game. Maybe not strictly 'cheating' but certainly unsporting.

Mane dived like he was on the edge of a swimming pool ready to jump in. He does it all the time, and gets away with it, basically a cheat in my opinion. Would salops strikers get em-------uhm,uhm, NO

Would salops strikers get em-------uhm,uhm, NO He is no different than many strikers over recent years. We Brits like to think it came into our game with the influx of overseas players. Can Nistlerooy was a master at it, as was Ronaldo but true Brit Mr Rooney soon cottoned on. The difference now is that VAR reviews the controversial decisions so if there had not been illegal contact, the penalty decision would have been reversed.

I remember being on the Wakeman terrace 20 years (or more) ago and being surprised at seeing Austin Berkley tumble over following a soft touch on his back from a defender, surprise turned to astonishment when a penalty was given.
All this shows is that 'gamesmanship' has been going on for ages. It's cheating when you don't like the team involved.
BTW, Berkley's Wiki page informs us that he 'scored 2 and a half goals for Shrewsbury'.

You are right , I remember 3 penalties being given in 1 game at old trafford recently Steve g scored the first 2 but slipped up when taking the 3rd one

VAR is good in this instance because it showed the penalty given was a clear penalty.
People moaning about it literally have no leg to stand on. Neither did Mane.

Utd's next league game is Liverpool at Old Trafford.
Nailed on home win. The footballing gods seem to like that sort of thing.
